Great footage as always. Beautiful place to camp. If I get the opportunity to travel that direction, I’ll be sure to look this place up.

Legend has it, a ship wrecked full of livestock, hence the name. The beach is fantastic! You can drive down to it for a swim. Unfortunately the chowder house is gone.

Thanks for the extra info, I asked about the name and that was the story I got, yours is more dramatic, :) Too bad about the Chowder House, it seem to be popular with people going up there. Thanks for watching . :)

Thanks for an awesome informative video Wayne! What time of year did you head there? We're driving up on June 3rd, 2023 and hoping to secure Site 11 in a tent! Just wondering how to increase those odds! Any tips?

Thanks for watching Roney! Early June up there is still pretty cool so your odds are good but you can always try calling them. You know, just put the bug in their ear. Have a blast, it’s so beautiful up there! 😃

Looking forward to camping here in 2022 with friends on motorcycles. They have large road bikes so I'm hoping with some patience they will be ok with the road. I have heard its worse (slippery on two wheels) if it has rained recently.

Hey David, thanks for watching. Just check the weather and take it real slow. If I remember correctly the gravel portion isn't THAT long but on a bike I can understand the concern.

@@Wayneontheroad Thanks! I forwarded your video to my friends and I’ll see what they say. They have to head back early, so I’m going for sure! Safe travels.

Here's a bit of advice for ya, if you're going to drive the Cabot Trail make sure you do it in a clockwise manner! Take the 105 (Do NOT speed through the Rez) and turn off to start it at "The Big Red Barn" just outside of Baddeck (unless you are planning to drive The Ceilidh Trail too). TRUST ME, totally different drive with MUCH better scenery than CCW! If you go sea kayaking in Meat Cove it's a near guarantee you'll see Pilot and likely Minke whales, possibly others such as humpback, white sided dolphins, and definitely curious seals! I found it sad that many Capers advised me to avoid the area stating that the locals were rude to outsiders before making serious claims that the locals were inbred hence the name, "because it's how they treat their siblings and first cousins!!" Nasty thing to say really. I showed up rather late just before dark to a full campground and the people there still found me a place to stay for the night!! They didn't want to accept full rate but I insisted as our impromptu tent site was just as good as any other! They apologized as they were out of picnic tables but we had folding chairs anyways, they then brought us over a steel fire pit and offered to cut down a tree for fire wood because they were unexpectedly busy and had completely sold out! I declined as I didn't want to disturb the other campers, but asked if i could collect a few sticks for a small cooking fire to roast a couple dogs and some marshmallows.. "Have at 'er B'y!" Kindest, friendliest and most welcoming of all Capers I met! A centuries old nasty stereotype from when the coastal mountain villages were very isolated, undoubtedly resurrected after the findings of the Goler Family. Ignore the rumours. Spend extended time in CB and you'll discover gossip is a very popular form of entertainment! Make sure you're up early enough to catch the amazing sunrise over the Atlantic!!

@@mrryencoke well said and thank you for the advice on clockwise exploring. I found everyone very welcoming and pleasant too and how can you not appreciate the natural beauty? Definitely want to go back one day.

We came all the way from the US, and had reserved a campsite. It was July, but the day we got to the campground it was overcast, and there was occasional drizzle and misting. Someone had actually warned my wife in advance to be careful when we were there --- they said that "weird stuff" was known to happen in that area. The people who owned the campground at the time knew we had a 1.5-year-old, and they gave us a site that was out on this land island that was small, and had 60-foot cliffs all around it. And they gave us a bad vibe. We were mystified as to why they would give us such a treacherous site with a tiny child. The wind was so strong coming off the ocean that I had great difficulty opening the car door, and I knew it would be impossible to set up the tent at that site. So we just drove off. @@Wayneontheroad
