It is finally finished! We built a custom chicken coop over the last month and it turned out better than we could have hoped for. Taking an old woodshed, turning into a run, and then building the coop. It took awhile, over a month and half, but the finished product is so worth it.
Thank you so much for watching the video! If you enjoyed please leave a like!

We are Austin & Sarah.
The two of us grew up as city kids and after we got married realized we dreamed of living a simpler and more self-sufficient life in the country. We packed our bags and bought our little piece of heaven in the beginning of 2021. This channel exists to document our journey of learning how to live a more self-sufficient life.
We have a lot to learn and we hope that you will join us on this adventure!

Loving your channel. Very impressed that you built the door yourself. Impressive coop.

I had 3 things that were a must for my coop, it had to be elevated, I had to be able to stand up in the coop and run, and it had to be 100% hurricane 🌀 proof...those were the top 3, it will have a ton of features besides these, including some experimental designs, trying new unseen ideas for me is the fun part.

Good luck on your build, hopefully you make a video out of it and we will check it out! Glad we don’t need to worry about hurricanes here in the Midwest, just a ton of snow 😂

The latch, has a hole at the top of it. See it? Drill a hole above the latch, and run a small chain or rope, attached to the hole of the latch thru the drilled hole, and into the coop. You can then pull your latch open if you need to, from inside the coop.

Ha yes since this video we have a created a way to open the door from the inside so we don’t get locked in again 😂

Wow, that looks great! It's amazing all the work that went into this. Can't wait to see how the chickens adapt to their new home.😉 Glad you were able to get yourself out of the coop too.😄

It was quite the process but we are so happy to have it done!

I was thinking if you did the deep litter method, would the floor eventually rot too, maybe large horse type rubber mats might help.

Something we have thought about for sure. We make sure their water is outside the coop which helps. Thankfully he haven’t had a moisture issue in the coop. But something we are keeping any eye on for sure!

The coop is awesome! Well done you two. Seems like you've thought of everything. That storage part of the coop is a great idea. And that log you used for a roost should be perfect, I wish I used a thicker one in mine. I have locked myself in my greenhouse more times than I can count hahaha I'm glad you can check that project off the list and have fresh eggs going forward. Just in time for winter! Also, your videos crack me up
