Honestly, this movie changed my mind about superheroes. My dad has been a comic book fan my whole life and I actively avoided anything related to them until I was dragged to see this movie with my high school class after graduation. I came home that night and ended up telling my dad that I actually really loved the movie and wouldn’t mind seeing it again with him. We’ve been MCU partners ever since…

The suit itself provides a great amount of supporting structure, especially for flight, but the suits are way too heavy for Stark to move them alkne for any period of time (the stufio says tgey weigh 600 to 800 pounds each, other sources say about 250, without Stark. If I recall properly, never was much into comics and Marvel less than DC, in the comics Stark is actually injured and becimes a paraplegic and he designs a suit to essentially walk for him.

Go back and rewatch Yinson's explanation of what he made. When Tony was hit you saw a multitude of bleeding spots through his flack vest. Loads of little metal barbs penetrated his chest. They will eventually travel into his circulatory system and kill him. Almost impossible to remove all. A super magnet will keep them from traveling further into the body. Yensin made a cobbled magnet powered by a car battery. Tony made a super magnet powered by his mini reactor. When he got home, he made a better one and had Pepper install it. He uses that mini reactor to power his new iron man suit.

That's the part that amazes me... in a cave, he improvises an ARC reactor that produces 3 gigajoules per second, the equivalent of three nuclear reactors in something that fits in the palm of your hand. Iron Man has been around since the '60s. Aside from some updating and mixing some later story material with some early stuff, this movie pretty much follows the comics. The original Iron Man suit, for example, was gray metal and bulky, and he made it - with the help of Dr. Yinsen - so he could escape captivity in a war zone. As you might imagine, in the Sixties the main concerns were the Cold War and the Vietnam War, with Tony questioning his role as a weapons manufacturer ... a profession that seemed more patriotic in WW2. In some ways, Tony Stark was based on Howard Hughes. As for Rhodes being angry with Tony toward the start ... that's because soldiers' lives depend on having the best equipment, and he sees Stark as being a bit flakey.

Watch them in the release order as some people have already mentioned, it's most important since you will be spoiled otherwise. 2. Enjoyed your reactions, guys. One bit of advice for ALL MCU movies - always always always wait through the credits and afterwards. There is always at least one after-credit scene, sometimes 2 or 3, that is a lead-in to whatever is happening next in the MCU. And, yes, some of these movies are not entirely set on Earth.

The thing in his chest is a electromagnet, to prevent the iron fragments of one of his missiles from reaching his heart and kill him, since no one could take them all out. The first one needed a car battery to work, then Tony made the ARK reactor to not just give energy to the electromagnet, but to also give power to his power suits. The first reactor he made had less capacity than the second one, so that's why in the final battle he was slowly losing power.

The arc reactor in Tony's chest, that glowing circle thing, creates a magnetic field which keeps the shrapnel in his chest, which was put there by his own weapons sold by his enemy within the company - one of Tony's board members was selling STARK Tech behind Tony's back - from working its way into his heart and killing him. In the original comics Tony was wounded by one of his own landmines in VietNam and had to wear a massive electric vest that kept him alive. That massive chest piece became part of the chest piece of his armor. Stan Lee said (I'm paraphrasing a little here) "I wanna make a character that represents EVERYTHING comic book lovers hate - a snide, narcissistic, 110% capitalist billionaire, and cram him so far down their throats they will LOVE him, even though they hate everything he represents."

The Ten Rings is a meta reference to an Iron Man villain called The Mandarin. He wore ten rings of alien manufacture that each gave him a different power. In the MCU The Ten Rings is a terrorist organization akin to Batman's League of Shadows. In the comics Tony was wounded in Vietnam as that was the current war at the time. They updated it to the war zone of Afghanistan to make it more relevant to modern audiences. 😅

Obadiah Stane is the COO of Stark's company. The COO is usually the number 2 person in a publicly traded corporation after the CEO. With Tony out of the way, he would have been moved up to acting CEO. In the comics, Obadiah Stane was a rival weapons manufacturer who took over Tony's company when he got drunk and lost everything. So the moment I saw Jeff Bridges was playing this character I knew he was the villain.

18:40 The glowing blue thing in his chest is an energy source that runs an electromagnet inside his chest. The bomb that knocked him on his back at the start of the movie was designed to cut through body armour and put shrapnel in the victim's body. They may survive the explosion but eventually that shrapnel makes its way around your body the heart and kills you. The electromagnet prevents that metal shrapnel from circulating his body - in this case it prevents the shrapnel from entering his heart and tearing it open, killing him. It also produces the energy the Iron Man suit needs to run.

Yes, "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." is Marvel and it does tie in to the movies. "Agents of Shield" is part of the Marvel Television division of Marvel, separate from the movie division. The movies division being the bigger money maker basically set the rules and storyline, and "Agents" tried to follow it, although the movie division didn't always share information. As I said, the tv show does tie in to the movies, but in the Marvel timeline, the show starts between "Iron Man 3" and "Thor: The Dark World". Please don't watch it until after "Iron Man 3" as it could spoil some things that are in the movies. There are several places you can check on line to make sure that if you're watching "Agents of Shield", you are lining up correctly with the movies (so you won't encounter spoilers). I highly recommend the show. I thought it was terrific. It has a 95% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

You not knowing anything about the Marvel Universe (not just the movies) is crazy for me since I grew up buying the comics for under $1 and reading them not knowing those very comics would be worth hundreds or thousands of $ now if I kept them in pristine condition. Keep exploring, and I know this is a reaction channel so you need to ask questions and comment as you watch, but you may want to rewatch afterwards so you can catch more of the details and dialogue you miss as you talk over the movie in the first watch. Other reactors sometimes rewind and pause, which I think is fine so they don't miss anything, but if you choose to do it the way you're currently doing it, have at it and I hope your channel and audience grows with your unique style. To be more accurate Paramount than Disney owned these characters except Spider-Man is owned by Sony and the X-Men, Fanstatic Four, Ghost Rider and DareDevil was owned by Fox till Disney brought Fox in 2019.
@serinx
@serinx Жыл бұрын
@@reggiebrown9508 And slightly more accurate: Marvel had done several movies in 'association' with movie studios that had bought the 'film' rights to make and distribute Marvel Comics movies. Paramount acted as a distributor for the first phase or so of MCU movies. Disney had already bought Marvel near the end of 2009, but MARVEL Studios had already contracted with Paramount to put the films in theaters. So no ownership by Paramount. MARVEL Studios was essentially an independent film studio for the first phase of MCU, though Disney bought after the first 2 releases -- these were so planned out I am not sure if/when Disney might have started exerting influence over content.

18:57 everyone has already pointed out it not realistic but the idea is he has an electrical magnet in his chest that keeps him from dying the shrapnel. He created a portal self generating fusion device which can power technology at an unrealistic scale, including the iron man suits. Been a year so i bet you figured that out by now but didn't see a comment clearly explaining it..

This isn't a Disney movie though later MCU movies were done by Disney. Though Disney owns the MCU now, they didn't buy Marvel Entertainment until the year after this came out (2009), which allowed this to be a much darker and bloodier movie. I loved that they used the original origin story, down to a lot of plot details like the look of the hastily made suit and the death of his fellow inmate/assistant who sacrificed himself to buy Tony time. They just updated it from the Vietnam War (which was the war of the day when Iron Man first appeared) to the Gulf War. That meant a lot to me right there. The reactor powering the electromagnet in the chest that Tony has to have to stay alive being the foundation for the suit that allows him to, in his way, repay Yinsen for the lessons he taught Tony about life and living. It is a great character arc that continues through multiple movies. Robert Downey Jr., with his manifold history of, shall we say "youthful indiscretions", was the ideal actor to play Tony Stark, who has had his own issues through the decades of the comics. And he played him perfectly with style and panache. Ideal casting there. Favreau as Happy Hogan was ideal too. Jon did a great job directing this movie!

The thing in his chest is supposed to be a magnet keeping the shrapnel from working its way to his heart. It is not a pacemaker and has nothing to do with how his heart works. It is a little confusing as to why he was going to go into cardiac arrest when Pepper pulled the magnet out but as it is explained in the movie, The only purpose that the chest piece serves as far as Tony's health goes is that it's a magnet to keep the shrapnel out of his heart.

It's suggested that some time before watching "Spider-Man: Homecoming" in Phase Three, you take some time to watch the Spider-Man movies that were released before Sony (which owns the rights to the Spider-Man character) and Disney (which wound up owning the rights to the MCU) made a deal in 2015 to include Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. That'll add some useful context in later MCU Spider-Man movies: "Spider-Man" (2002) "Spider-Man 2" (2004) "Spider-Man 3" (2007) "The Amazing Spider-Man" (2012) "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" (2014). FYI - when they were released, the Amazing Spider-Man movies were considered to be reboots, and then the MCU Spider-Man introduced in Phase Three was seen as another reboot.

I've been reading Iron Man since the mid 1970's . Of all Marvel Comics superheroes he has so many demons. In the early 1980's, they had an entire storyline in which he became a whole blown alcoholics and lost his company. When I heard there was going to be a big budget Iron Man movie with Robert Downey Jr as Tony Stark, I knew this was going to be special. Then when I saw all of the big name stars who were also on the cast I was hooked from go.

@2:32 technically this was Paramount at the time. Phase 1 is also what I call the Paramount era. The cheeseburger scene is based on something that happened to Robert Downey Jr in real life. Some time ago, he was in a rough spot. Then one day when he at a cheeseburger from Burger King, he was so disgusted that it actually made him snap to his senses. He got rid of his drugs, sought out help, and established himself as an incredible actor.

This was Robert Downey Jr’s rise back into the good spotlight. He had trouble with drugs and stuff for awhile then got his life turned around and Marvel took a chance on him & Jon Favreau to save their company. If this movie flopped Marvel would’ve had to sell off the rights to the rest of their property. Now that Marvel is under Disney they almost have all their property back. Spider-Man is still under Sony but since Disney bought 20th Century Fox they got Fantastic Four and X-Men back under the Marvel umbrella. 18:46 the arc reactor in his chest keeps the shrapnel from the bomb away from his heart. Basically a wireless version of what Yinsin built. He can also power his suit with it. 21:00 Iron Man and most Marvel movies are based on comics that Stan Lee created. He’s someone you have to look for in every Marvel movie. They give him a cameo and sometimes a speaking part. 22:43 Both Rhodey & Pepper know about the chest piece cause Rhodey found him so he saw it then and Pepper cause she’s his close assistant that knows more than he does. Rhodey is his liaison between the military and Stark Enterprises. 25:47 Search iron man suits on KZbin. Many people have built suits that make you like Iron Man. 26:14 the car he falls on has been auctioned and in a private collection. 27:16 Did you catch the Stan Lee cameo? Tony thought he was Hugh Hefner. 41:50 he didn’t build tunnels. The building goes under the parking lot and he just busted through the ceiling into the parking lot. 46:54 yes Agents of Shield is in this storyline. Don’t watch it until you watch the first Avengers film. There are spoilers in Agents of Shield.

"I am Iron Man." Fun Fact: During filming, a tank accidentally ran over an Aaton 35mm camera. Stan Lee Cameo Fact: Comic writer Stan Lee appears at Tony Stark's party playing the role of Hugh Hefner, accompanied by three blonde women. Lee later mentioned that it was his most fun cameo. What Script Fact: "I am Iron Man" was ad-libbed by Robert Downey Jr.. Producer Kevin Feige approved using it in the final cut of the film and credits this with his decision to largely do away with secret identities in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Burger King Connection Fact: In an interview with Britain's Empire Magazine, Robert Downey Jr. thanked Burger King for helping him get straight in 2003, with a car full of drugs. He had a burger that was so disgusting, it made him rethink his life, and dump the drugs in the ocean. He repeats this, with his impromptu sit-down session with the press, upon his return from captivity. Burger King also promoted the film with toys based on this movie, as well as the sequel. On a personal note, I actually love Burger King. Casting Notes Fact: Paul Bettany recorded all of his lines as J.A.R.V.I.S. (Just A Rather Very Intelligent System) in two hours. According to Paul Bettany, he did not know on which film he was working. He merely did the job as a favor for director Jon Favreau. Paul Bettany has never seen the film, and is unfamiliar with the plot. He said J.A.R.V.I.S. was the easiest job ever, and it was almost like a robbery, since he only worked for two hours, got paid a lot of money, then went on vacation with his wife Jennifer Connelly. Practical Over CGI Fact: Although originally planned as a completely digital suit, the Stan Winston Studio Iron Man team built a "real" Mark I suit that wound up performing over 80% of the Mark I shots in the final film. From the first film test to flamethrowers blazing real fire, the Mark I suit was a pivotal creation that would set the tone for the Iron Man franchise's fantastic blend of both digital and practical techniques to bring Tony Stark's armor to life. The Iron Man Mark I armor weighed ninety pounds.
