We're back on the Lakeside Hill Trail and we're ready to begin removing topsoil. We're going to compare the results between using a tiller to grind up the topsoil versus using the scarifiers on a box blade. We have a suspicion that we'll much prefer the tiller, but since it's so much more expensive we think it's worth the comparison.

Tilling before scooping road. Never done it. Don't have the implements to do it. But sounds like a real smart idea !!!! As I have noted before one thing you don't have much compared to where I am is Rocks. We grow new ones each night. They multiply worse than rabbits. I am jealous .

I purchased your stump bucket for my BX, it is the perfect size for the machine to excel! I also had the tiller/stump bucket running this week. Great combo for cleaning up land, again with a BX. That rock you hit at 4:58 is MY world. I can't go 3' w/o having to to jump a baseball to basketball sized rock. I have a KingKutter from Fleet Farm and was sure when I first started tilling that I'd be replacing the tines every 10 minutes but I have about 5-10 hours of tilling my rock fields and have yet to bend or break a tine. I have picked rocks every year for 3 years and haven't noticed any fewer rocks on the 4th year. Where do they come from?!? It's like the stone dinosaurs lay fresh rock eggs every spring.

I have the same tiller. Built nice and works great. Rocks will keep rising every year from freezing and thawing. I built many rock piles on the farm in Indiana.

The Tar River flows within a mile of their main facility. It is like a lot of names - it tells you where they come from. After 60 years of globalization, it doesn't make much sense to us anymore, but once upon a time, local brands reigned over their regions, manufacturing their own implements from a mix of off the shelf and fabricated parts. Having a brand name that connected you to your region made sales easier than if you were viewed as an outsider. In North Carolina, anything "Tar" would do. Farmers being farmers, the value of a regional brand has lasted a lot longer than in most industries. Of course, now those brands are often pushing into the national market, may be part of an international conglomerate, and are often just hocking junk off Alibaba.
