One thing we do out here in Oregon now, where we get a lot of rain and have landslides that take out portions of the roads & highways... we use heavy duty galvanized chicken wire and build box cages out of it, then load them full of big rocks that used to be the road bed, and pour medium to smaller rocks in around the big ones, lock up the cage, and it can be moved into place once that section of road has been cleared out. It makes for a stable road bed that drains water through the rocks, like a French drain. Anyway it's a way to rebuild that holds up very well. Something for you to consider. Compacted gravel can go on top, then the new asphalt above that. It goes pretty fast, too.

@@Asymmetrical-SagginGod didn't dump it on the people. To understand how God works, you have to understand that the world is fallen because of satan gaining authority in the garden of Eden when Adam and Eve accepted the forbidden fruit. That took the authority that God had given man to subdue the earth. So because satan gained control, God can intervene when humans pray and intercede through the authority that Jesus returned to mankind when He chose to be the sacrifice for all sins. But because God is so great, He gives mankind freewill to choose who to serve. Those who have chosen to serve God are helping their neighbors and spreading that same love. The natural disasters will continue to happen in a fallen world just like they have for thousands of years. What people do to help those in need will distinguish those who truly love God from those who don't. Even unsaved people are willing to help because they see the results of the love that is spread and want that same love as well. Many who haven't accepted Jesus will come to know Him because of the kind acts they witness. That's why God allows disaster to happen. Not because He wants to destroy people, but because people have a choice and many have not chosen repentance. So now my question is who do you choose to serve? We are all made to worship and we will worship whatever takes our time, our money, our resources, our life.

What a lot of people do not understand, because in watching the news all they're really showing is places like Asheville and the more upper class richer areas where the ski resorts and big expensive houses are that those things are those places, but what they're not showing you is the worst of it that's happened to every day Americans. I'm a lifelong resident of the mountains of rural southern Appalachia, I live in Southwest VA just minutes from both the KY and TN state lines. My ancestors lived on this land before the United States of America even had it's independence and got established as a Nation and I'm not the only one like that, many of us in these mountains are that way. There's people here that have never been out of country, never been to a beach in the USA even and these mountains have always had generational poverty. It's filled with the hardest workers and toughest people you will ever meet, people that while they have very little would still do anything they could for you to help you even if you are a stranger, that's just how we were taught and raised. We were also taught and raised to know that we should never trust nor rely on the government, and to always know the government hates us; and sadly after this I'm sure many of these people can tell you that first hand as it took 11 days and more in some places for the National Guard or FEMA to ever show up. It's not our troops fault, it's our corrupt and broken governments fault, a government that now has taken from Americans in a time of great need and given to foreign nations, invaders and foreigners in other countries. I've got 3 family members down there in the mountains of Western NC, it's awful what they're going thru. One was down there working before Helene hit and he's stayed down there since (even thou is home's here in southwest VA) he stayed to help others and is sleeping in his truck because he knows how to run a chainsaw and can do other things most country mountain men do. This is just heartbreaking, because in these mtns we don't see Virginians, Kentuckians, Tennesseans, or North Carolinans we are just one big country family and mountain people. These people who's ancestors really built and established this country, who lived off the land and went from nothing to those little country homes you see, most of which are destroyed or in ruin but that was their home and they took care of it. It's heart breaking to see, to know what people are going thru. God bless those suffering and may they be made whole again and Bless those who've come from all corners of this country to help, because it just shows the government isn't there to save you.

i have flown over from Scotland to help as much as i can, i can only be here for 2 weeks but i will do as much as i can to help out where and when as possible, just everyone please keep these people who have been affected by this tragedy in your hearts and prayers and if you can please give what you can to the Gofundme that these people have set up as no matter how small your donation is will be massive to these people who have lost everything, and if you can spare man power then get down to where ever you can and help as much as you can, when these heartbreaks happen the whole world needs to come together, doesnt matter what colour you are or what race you are, we are all human and need to come together to help the less fortunate during this hard time, may god bless all of you.

Driving in the mountains when the roads are in good condition is nerve-racking. I can't imagine driving in them when the roads are half gone. This is some amazing footage of people working together. Didn't see any FEMA or other government agencies doing anything though. I guess we know who to depend on.

Devastating we are lucky in Australia to. People pitching in to help. Some don't have money to spare but volunteer their labour. During the bushfires down south the Sikh community went in & cooked for the community & volunteer groups. Just having a cooked meal lifted a lot of people's spirits. Its great how people lose everything & everyone donates something. One family near my daughter's lost everything in a house fire. Just had a newborn. My daughter went around collecting all the household items for the grandma. When she unpacked a box of kitchen utensils. The young mother bless her burst into tears at the sight of an egg flipper. It was just what she needed for breakfast.

The devastation in NC is giving me flashbacks to 2017 when I rented a house overlooking Lake Hartwell in SC. The road to the house was several miles long - very narrow and treacherous even in good weather. One day after leaving, hurricane Irma hit Florida and impacted where I was staying 20-miles away. No electricity for 2-days and gridlock on the interstates with Florida refugees. Days later Atlanta was a congested mess, too. Prayers for all those affected now and for the courageous volunteers!

Looking at the devastation I asked myself if you also have a mandatory settlement plan in the USA as we have in Switzerland, where zones at risk (potential flooding, avalanches, earthslides) are identified and were you cannot built a house. Edited to add that we also see more landslides in Switzerland where none had been before, because of more rain in shorter time coming down and melting permafrost and glaciers because of global warming. Municipalities have to update their no-constructions zones because of that. Praying that our American friends are safe and being supported in their darkest hours.
@kathrynmiller96222 ай бұрын
Some places do here in the USA but, with that being said, there are those places that builders get away with building in flood zones. I cannot remember what they call that.

@@kathrynmiller9622 Thank you so much for your reply. I am very sad about the devastation. We also have more landslides in Switzerland this year because of more rain and the glaciers and permafrost melting because of climate change, so that some places have to update their no-construction zones.
