I have an 88 winnebago elandn , i can attest that replacing engine and rebuild transmission will cost 10-20K if you do the work yourself . There is a lot of extra expense on top of the price of engine and tran themselves . Even just fluids will cost an extra 500$$ let alone the assessors and belts and hoses.. I bought a dynoi tested motor , installed and then had the bottom end explode 400 miles later, sure it was warrenteed but two weeks labor and then all new fluids cost thousands, not covered by warrentee and possibly transmission and torque converter damage as the engine seized at hwy speed and 4000 rpm.😮😢 Best of luck CHEERS AND SAFE TRAVELS Steve h

Love it! We started with a pop-up, moved to a travel trailer, then into a big 5th wheel, and now were in a class-C (flat towing a Bronco). Each one has been wonderful and fit our needs at the time. Something about having the driving space open to the camper, like in our class-C, has made everything very enjoyable...especially for the non-drivers.

She's survived living in a New England city for 4 yrs, several trips to the upper New England states and just brought us out to Texas. No problems! Have fun renoing yours. Ps . Miss Daisy and yours are the same size and she had a very similar layout.😊

I love the black cats coming out from under the camper, lol. I had a couple 460s with a carb years ago and starting in the cold I fully pressed the accel pedal to the floor twice then a third of the way and they always started and warmed up good. No one does more than they need on old vehicles, I would look at detroit axle for a complete front end kit replace all of the front end parts, brakes and 4 shocks and get a good alignment, it will never drive like a new vehicle does though. The front end kit of the dozen or so replaceable parts will be a couple hundred with brakes and shocks it will be close to 5 hundred maybe but then you know it will drive and stop safe. I hope you guys do have fun working on it, you will always find things on an old vehicle that is part of the "magic" I hope nothing big. Stay safe and healthy.

We walked away from the first class C we considered after paying for a professional inspection. We upped our budget by the amount we would have to spend to get it up to a usable standard. We are now in our 4th year of enjoying 6-7 months at a time on the road. We've made great upgrades, including solar, lithium, roof armor type coating, suspension, sway bars, and trading the jacknife sofa for kennels for our two Labradors. No regrets and still dreaming up new upgrades. Looking forward to this series, and we are praying and cheering for you! Much love from the Morgans of TX.

Last May I bought a "newer" 2005 class C on a e-450 chassis. It was in good shape and I have a good amount of mechanical experience and capability. So far I have been amazed at how much work this thing has needed and it has left us stranded on the side of the road once already. But, the last few trips have been good and hopefully we can get it 1000 miles away from home next year. Don't underestimate or defer work on the chassis and especially the tires - buy the best. These are basically commercial trucks with a camper on the back and will give an incredible amount of service with a fair amount of abuse but you're about to find out that pulling out in a class C is a totally different level of commitment and risk than a towable. Can't wait to see how it goes.

Had 2 motorhomes on the ford chassis, an 86 class c and a 2002 class a. 460 is a good motor but it is thirsty beast. Fuel injected ones are better than carbureted models. They do tend to run warm so keep an eye on that. Biggest issue with c classes from that era is they are usually wood frame and water can be a killer. First two looked bad and if you catch them lying to you, it is usually best to walk away. The third one does look better than the first two. And if he told you what was wrong with it, at least you know what you are in for. Good luck. We just downsized from a 33 foot diesel pusher to a 22 ft Roadtrek van. Going to be a big adjustment but we are looking forward to our new adventure. Btw, my guess was a national park blitz but I feel like that could be done in your Brinkley with some compromises (staying outside the parks). Saw someone said Mexico and Central America. I like that guess.

The design of the inside of Options 1 and 3 reminded me of the conversion vans we had in the mid-late 80s. The one with the 2 swivel seats in middle and a bench seat/futon in back.
