Fun fact. There is one size above the Unimog. The Zetros. I can not tell which I would prefer. However, I always saw the Unimog as pure Tool. I own 3 unimog for my side job I do here in Europe . All Komunal from Germany or Switzerland , basically a all in one extreme machine . I have like 12 attachments and I can do digging , snow plowing (snow turbine), wood cutting fork lift and many more I tow 30 ton with those. I do maintenance and work for locations that can’t be reached with normal machinery and have one with a mini camper cab to be able to stay out for days. Unimogs are my ultimate multipurpose apocalisse machine😂😂😂😂

Those are not exactly tractors like those with big rear tires just for pulling farming equipment. Unimog means Universal Mobile Gerate (like universal mobile machine), as those older ones had PTOs front and back, some had mounting frame for carried equipment like front loaders or high-lifts etc. Nowadays it's usually all hydraulic driven. But those are as said .. UNIVERSAL. Usually as cab + flatbad , but could be anything from digger, snowblower, scraper, tractor, semi towing trailers or even with mounts to run on rails and pulling train wagons .. anything.

@@TFLtruck *"most death defying visuals of any off roader ever"* but having both ridden and then driven one by far the most capable vehicle outside of ATV 4 Wheeler and with truly awesome commercial applications as any German would tell you 70 plus Years on now. But yeah my first impression was of a vehicle that would roll over just from going over a stone wrong let alone used as a rock crawler but turned out upon actual use I was totally wrong. Zero interest in the G-Wagon but always amazed that Mercedes-Benz never really marketed this vehicle in North America or even outside Germany to my knowledge ... at least until now anyways. Anyhow people still kick me to curb when I say you don't need much beyond 40 horsepower when dealing with a diesel engine power train product and it was this product that convinced me of that....again only been in continuous commercial production for a *MERE* 70 Years! That's a lot of spare parts and know how! Crazy as it sounds the Toyota Tundra disregarding recent change was right up there for doing everything to include towing...just not putting a back hoe on that obviously let alone all of the other items this vehicle is so famous for. Sad to see this one finally being *"discovered"* here I gotta say...been very entertaining *NOT* to see this so far into your Oh So Serious Channel History..

Now I, fully understand how much behind The Curve ball I,was when I, volunteered my self to take a call for bushfire in South Phoenix and the brush truck at this particular station was a Unimog and I had never been inside one let alone driven one. I, did make the few miles to the call and then on the way back, I managed to get the gearbox hung up and had to call in my FUBAR. And the guys at this particular station made sure to remind me of that day very early in my career, but I will say it was fun while I was able to keep it rolling, and I was only a half a mile from the station and getting it back home.

It's basic concept was a mobile generator on wheels with powered tool shafts everywhere. It wasn't meant to be comfortable, or fast, or silent, or luxurious. It was meant to go wherever it was needed, under its own power, and do work there, either standing still and powering other tools, or doing slow moving work. It wasn't meant to go on highways or interstates. That's always been the design philosophy, and it's stayed that way. With the right tools, a small crane on its flatbed it can carry almost any required tool to any location, deposit it there, and power it.

My uncle had the smaller unimogs in Western Canada that had the articulated back where the entire truck was the size of a Tacoma so it was Small BUT the huge wheels meant you had something like 20 inches of ground clearance and fantastic approach and departure angles. You could go on the narrowest overgrown logging roads for fishing n hunting purposes in that. My uncle sold it for a nice profit back in the day even though it had almost 200,000 km or 120,000 miles on it. Unimogs are actually quite useful in Western Canada. Our local Mercedes Dealer has a few in stock in Vancouver! Expensive though!

@DJ Tesseract what I found was that Werner (of Trier, Germany) used Unimog components (cab, engine, transmission, axles) to build an articulated vehicle that they called the "Uniknick". Mercedes didn't build it, it doesn't even use a Unimog frame, and it's not a Unimog, but it is interesting. I can understand how one would think it's a Unimog, since it uses so many Unimog components, and may even have Unimog badges on it. The Uniknicks were built decades ago with Unimog 401 and 406 components (notably cabs)... so they were small.
