Today we will be fixing and rigging up the cables and pulleys that work the flaps and ailerons. Hopefully if we get everything right we’ll be able to move the control surfaces from inside the airplane for the first time in months! We are also getting some work done on the Piper Cherokee 160, going for a flight in our Cherokee 140, and doing some maintenance over at the Mr. Dent shop. Check it out!

I think by the time it's done, it might be worth an honorary designation of "401.2" in recognition of how much the 402 has contributed itself to the build

Newer pubs show pressing bearings in with non-curing primer on either the hole ID or bearing OD. This is for dissimilar metal protection. Although the way it was originally done there was no primer and no corrosion. Keep up the good work! I always preferred saving an old one verses working on new one. Also when rig is done neutral will be correct.

"Starting to not like airplanes"... I loved them until I built my own. When you build, and are responsible for your own maintenance, the "love" can start to fade. I completed my plane 6 years ago and I've reached the point that building and maintaining my plane has sucked the joy out of flying. I never expected this to happen. When you read or watch videos online everyone seems to paint this rosy picture of how great it is to build your own plane. That may the case for a few, but I think many just don't want to admit how the time and effort become just too much after a while.

Dear Jason, It’s so good to see how you and Joe are going forwards with the restoration of the Cessna 401. All the wings and rudders are like brand new installed and all the steering cables seem to run absolutely fine. It’s a mile stone forwards and I can’t wait till this beautiful technically is finished. Of course than there still is a lot to do before she really can fly but your to do list is getting smaller and smaller. I therefore wish you and your team (with special thanks to Joe) lots of success with the rest of the refit and send you love from the Netherlands

I remember early on, the comments. People harping on about progress. They had no idea. Absolutely zero clue how impossible it is to do something like this unless it is a thorough renovation. Nobody has a notion of just how much work is involved at that stage but people were complaining. It is hilarious to think about those people and the blah blah they were spouting. Just to say congrats on what is emerging. And good to see Sam there also. It is inspiring what you guys have done to date. Very inspiring. And it is a credit to Sam and everybody else. Just a wonderful job makes me laugh thinking about the Disney Land theme. “When you wish …” you guys are awesome.

Say I would like to call attention to the aileron trim setup. I was flying one of our companies 401's one morning and noticed the aileron trim tab was vibrating... I could feel it in the yoke. The piano hinge on the trim tab had actually worn out. You will want to inspect it very closely, this trim tab had passed a zillion 100 hour inspections. I was the first to notice and squawk the aileron trim tab vibrating in flight. This was back in the 1980's.

My flight instructor always taught me a quick and easy way to check controls everytime. I see people always check free controls but I don't hear them say correct before every flight. Easy way is to grab yoke or joystick with one hand, doesn't matter which hand....stick your thumb up while grabbing. Turn the yoke to one side....your thumb will point to the aileron that is supposed to be up....and other side should be down.

At 17:45, at $285 for a 25 to 50 gram part, it must have been made out of the overpriced "Because-we-canium"! 🤔😕🤬 Thats Outrageous!🤯 Reminds me of when I was working at a Medical device manufacturer in the mid 1980's making PMMA plastic Intraocular lenses. The cheapest ones they sold cost the patient, north of $700 each for a part that cost about $8 to make!😱 The Guv'ment eventually made them drop their prices!👍 I'm sure the Owners and Share holders weren't happy about that, but damn, they were "Molding Money" there for many years!😁 Mike in San Diego.🌞🎸🚀🖖 Still kicking myself in the ass for not finishing my Private Pilot training in 1978 when I was 17, when the 1 year old Cessna 172 Skyhawk with Instructor and fuel cost me $27/Hr! Was just ready to solo when I had to move from Oregon to Arizona for College. One of the Worst decisions I ever had made FOR me, by my family!🤬😕

I've been watching the build since early but first comment. Loving to see the 401 steadily come back from the grave. One thing I'd love is a checklist on what's left (obviously a lot still in it) so we can track how close it is to getting the old bird back in the air. Keep up the great work Jason and team!

I think you should have used nylon or rubber grommets in those holes to prevent damage to the cable and the hole area.

To keep your cool while installing those parts is next to awsome. I couldn't do it without launching a wrench across the room. Well done.

It is absolutely amazing how LITTLE holds critical parts together on an airplane. (Edit) Almost forgot: “I want the Austin “ !

Hi guys, I love your videos. It is one thing to fly a plane but I am gaining so much seeing these airplanes being taken apart and worked on with great attention to detail. Great job always. Wishing you all the best,T

Welcome to Aircraft Maintenance, this is why when you make an entry in the log book, write, Maintenance Manual Chap. 51 was referenced. If you write Maintenance done I.A.W. you're stating that the maintenance was done In Accordance With a vague manual procedure. It's mostly for the lawyers when a screw up happens so fingers can be pointed.

Heck of a job with the ailerons, tweak, tweak, then success, great job guys. It's been fun and I've been here since day one. Shoot, my knees hurt watching you crawl across the floor to test those ailerons but come Amigo, I'm still surprised you don't have a nice pair of knee pads but it seems in past videos you did and so did Joe, not sure. During today's taping, bad parts out and new in, of course. But it got me thinking about how much scrap material, steel, aluminum, all good as it goes towards tis wonderful project and perhaps for aviation fuel in the future. Carry on Amigos and keep it straight, by that, I love that you guys won't take shotcuts. Ondale!
