As someone who emigrated from the UK 42 years ago, I can vouch for the fact that the kids are the least thing you should worry about. They just throw themselves into everything, it’s the parents who generally suffer the change more. And kids join school over here right throughout the year, no worries there either. As a brand new follower I’m not yet sure which State you are moving too, I’m in Perth. Good luck, please remember to breathe ❤ Oh small tip which I’ve enjoyed so much over the years was I kept a very detailed journal of everything that happened on the day we emigrated, and for the first week. I mean very detailed and I had a small child to take care of too. But now I read it back all these years and I love it xx

I'm a teacher in Perth and it is very common for kids to start at any random time throughout the year. We have new students arriving from all over the country and all over the world, many non-English speaking too. Kids here are so welcoming to new faces and I know your daughter will have no problem at all making friends, even if she rocked up in Term 4! Don't overthink it, let the universe do its thing!❤

This is really encouraging to hear, thank you so much. I know she'll adapt so well to it, just one of those things parents think in trying to protect their kids isn't it? She'll end up being the one who settles faster than the rest of us haha

Have you considered coming North of the River ? Alkimos way ? its a greatly expanding area, lots of new schools opened and opening in the new year, we've lived in this area for 10 years, its grown so much, lots of young families and people from around the World, it may be worth a look x

If you rely on sponsorship, accept that your first job will not be the job the you want or where you want it. It’s a stepping stone to get your foot in the door.

I think it could be much harder for you moving first to a country town like the second job out of Albany. Good luck in your husband finding a job closer to the city 🤞🏻We need new teachers so badly, it’s constantly on the news, I don’t understand why there are the complications. I hope they reconsider. And also don’t worry about your daughter’s accent, you’ll be surprised how many different accents there are in primary school! ❤

You sound like me - an overthinker. I have a friend who emigrated to Perth as a teacher after getting an independent visa. Teachers are in demand i think you would have a good chance of getting a PR. Good luck to you.

The right post will turn up. A lot of secondary posts expect the teacher to cover two subjects. It seems to be the Aussie way. I do think this is more common due to the shortage. I have been employed to cover two subjects but I enjoy them both which is important.

Thank you, I wish there was a bit more explanation in the process. Like when you said ‘there was a disconnect somewhere’. They really should have mentioned that ‘locals’ have the right to work first or how many people are already waiting in the pool. And that the towns in Australia can be spread out. 40mins (for us Aussies) isn’t a long time but there needs to be an understanding that in other countries that’s a long time, they might not be used to the isolation like we are. I really do hope it works out for you and the family considering the amount of planning and organising you’ve done for this to happen😊

Emails are always difficult to communicate properly I feel, so I can understand how things can get lost in translation, or not given the emphasis they should do. 40 mins for us would pass through about 4 other towns, so it's crazy to think haha. Aside from the distance on that one, the job itself wasn't right for my husband so I really feel like that is a big priority for us. I want him to feel happy in his every day, as well as being able to make the Aus dream come true for us. Lots more seems to be happening, so fingers crossed soon!

Hi Maria, well done on pronouncing Mandurah. I was seriously impressed. Please don't stress about starting school later in the year. South of Perth we have quite a large population of English, Irish and Scottish, and many other nationalities, Especially in both Mandurah and Rockingham ( 40 mins drive north of Mandurah. Our kids here are very used to kids from all over the world, and at anytime of the year. Your daughter will be totally fine - just one word of warning, expect an invite for your girl to come over to play on her 1st or 2nd day lol. That's just how the kids here are, especially the girls. Gee, my granddaughter has a minimum of 5 x 16yr olds here every Fri after school, or Sat ( and they're never late for lunch lol ), 2 or 3 end up staying the night, big sleep in Sun morning (because they talked all night), they wake up and head to the kitchen to cook breakfast, then they all go across the road to the park, with the netball, and practice for a few hours, come back for snacks and a drink, then they catch the buses home, rinse and repeat lol. Kids are a lot more resilient and adaptable than us adults are, and we don't give them enough credit for being able to manage a new situation on their own. Relax Mother hen♥

40 minutes for a haircut in Australia is not too bad, and the job may have been a really fun Aussie initiation, if not ideal in the long term! I suggest you just plan on coming to Australia, and stop thinking about high rents before you become stressed about your finances! Focus on the details of the family's journey together, not about ideals or perfect planning! 💕👪

Thanks for this! The job just wasn’t suitable for my husband and he felt instantly that it wasn’t right for him which I 100% trust. I think you might have misunderstood what I meant about high rents - I meant in the UK. If we sold our house and rented whilst waiting for a job to come up. We can’t come to Australia without a visa, so it’s not as simple as just coming over and making the best happen unfortunately. Fingers crossed it works out soon though 🤞🏼

@mariatateofficial I was trying to put a more positive spin on things! I agree that it may not have been suitable, but was worried you may dismiss reasonable opportunities! I agree that renting in the UK shouldn't be an option! Yes, of course, and a sponsored visa is less stress, but I meant focus on "we are going to Australia for a new family life, not a perfect life but a new start"! Yes, I sincerely hope everything will fall into place for you! Best wishes! 🙋

Maybe look interstate?. I came from uk teacher and went to the NT. Look at Alice Springs or Darwin. Maybe Look at NT jobs education. I was sponsored by a state school/ NT Gov. Not sure of rules these day?. I did it in 2003, did sponsorship, got PR, citizenship ultimately. Wonderful experiences and unique experiences, good promotion, great salaries 😊 that's my take, things you will not see in major cities. You have freedom to bring new ideas and approaches. Working with indigenous students and many other backgrounds was fsbulous. maybe contact them and ask as all states and territories can or are different.
Is Brisbane THE WORST?
