I wanted to let you guys know that we have 50 acres down here just north of Vancouver, Washington. If you can get Clementine & Ruby down here, you are more than welcome to park them on our property. They would be safe and we wouldn't charge you anything. We're also friends with a certified mechanic. I'm sure he'd be more than happy to diagnose Clementine for you and give you a reasonable estimate on getting her fixed.

Good idea. Not sure how long an RV will last in SeaTac, sadly. A yard is probably better than a storage unit!

As a car nut and professional endless adventure fan, the issues sound super minor and totally fixable- don’t worry! Engine noise is an exhaust manifold leak (no scary just noisy) which would rob a bit of power, which could by why the engine quits when it’s first cold started where it’s not peak efficiency with the small exhaust leak. But still perfectly drivable. And the brakes, they sound d poorly fitted - they will work fine but again noisy. They will need anti squeal grease - some don’t apply it and the. They make that noise. Don’t give up, super easy to sort, or could be used as is still.
@tedwalker1370 Жыл бұрын
As a mechanic for many years I think Joe is correct in his assessment of the problems. Find the right mechanic and get her fixed. It is much less expensive than a new unit. The old girl has got many miles left in her.
@jackierosenwald4193 Жыл бұрын
The brakes' noise could be the routers. You probably replaced just the pads.
@isbjrn358 Жыл бұрын
its all and easy fixed, but if you or in this case TEA have no freakin knowledge about this stuff and aren't really able to fix 'em on their own, Clementine is (and was) a money grave. Maybe it would be possible to fix it, but: it seems all mechanics are booked (or probably just don't want wastin' time on this RV) or it will cost a furtune. Plus it already cost a furtune and, guess, will cost even more in the future.

It does sound like manifold leaks. I would say that after an engine change with extras there should have been a comprehensive check of all of the fastenings after 500 to 1000 miles. That would include all of those on the engine. Don't know if that happened. My guess is that the manifolds are cracked due to the exhaust pipes having no fixed fastening stays close up to the manifold to pipe junction. Without those the exhaust acts as a lever on the manifolds as it wags around. It would have done a lot of wagging with miles of rough road and cross country action. New manifolds not too expensive and after being fitted properly an exhaust shop used to heavy duty trucks should be able to fit good solid supports at the front. Plenty of room underneath to slide under and keep an eye on these. If rubber mounts/rings are used check those often as rubber now days has a very short life. Brakes. As said these probably just need some TLC and may not even need parts. However they might have fitted cheap pads so replacing them with much better ones would be a good idea. Clementine is heavy and deserves the best. Hopefully they fitted new discs

Call flying wrench in Kingston Washington❤ We use to live in Bremerton, WA. And flying wrench did all the work for us on are RV. We could not say anything better about them, when they worked on our 2015 Thor 28A. We retired and moved to Tennessee. You will find storage on the Kitsap peninsula is far less than over on the Seattle side. You can take the train from the airport to Pioneer Square, and a short walk to the Seattle Kingston fast ferry. call Lift for a ride to where you store your RV. Then you will only have a short drive to the Olympic mountain range. Since you will be leaving it, and still in need of repairs, Flying wrench is a mobile and shop maintenance facility, so they can let you know what it needs and take care of it for you well you are away.

You should think of Clementine as your grandmother. She's in great condition for her age, but she shouldn't necessarily be driven through extreme conditions. Maybe if you find a piece of land somewhere to build on, you could park her there and live in her while you do your build...I've seen a few people buying old campgrounds to renovate. I could see you guys doing that.

IMHO, it's *always* better/cheaper/easier to deal with what you got than it will ever be starting over with something else -- aka just trading one set of problems for another. With the rig you already have, you just get to know more and more about it over time. I never lament what it costs to repair or maintain my rig as I know I'm keeping it forever so I'll be the one who gets all the good from that repair. Repeat after me: Newer is *NOT* better. More expensive is *NOT* better. And bigger is *NOT* better either.

Definitely not a car guy here, but I did have a similar experience eons ago driving my parent's 25-foot motorhome with it slowing down. In a nutshell, there was a baffle in the muffler that had dislodged and was blocking the exhaust gasses from leaving the tailpipe. The more I pressed on the accelerator, the more backpressure was placed on the engine, and the slower we went, especially uphill. I don't recall if it made a similar sound as to what you were experiencing (this would have been around 1975). It would have taken several days for a new muffler to reach our location in remote northern Wisconsin, so the mechanic just took a long metal rod and poked it through the muffler to create an opening for the exhaust gasses to exit (it was a straight shot from the tailpipe to the muffler, so easy to do). Needless to say, we did make a lot of noise as we drove down the highway, as the muffler was now essentially a straight pipe. Good luck!

A good old school mechanic can fix it all. The back brakes might not be adjusted right and all the force is on the front brakes and can wear out sooner and a lot faster!

The break squeal is a well known warning gadget built into disk breaks. If drum brakes, it means they are shot, and the drums will have to be turned before you replace the brake shoes. Since they are new, and you haven't tortured them in mountains or deserts, it could just be the way the break shoes are made now with harder substances in them than in the past. if they have been overheated, the drums still might need to be turned or trimmed.

The engine noise sounds like it's pinging when you step on the gas, so it might be a timing issue since you are losing power. It could also be a clogged catalytic converter. As for the brakes, it sounds like the shop did not check their install to be sure the brake wear indicator did not get pinched between the rotor and caliper. Sounds like the brake wear indicator is rubbing against the rotor. If the shop installed the pads with a bent brake wear indicator, it will be riding against the rotor.

@kaikendall39 ай бұрын
Neither of those mechanical issues is hard to fix. Some brands of cheap brake linings will do thar, same with cheap rotors; easy but not free. The miss (assuming it's not exhaust leak) could be anything, but if the cranking is even when starting, it's likely just a plug or wire.
