Wow dude, I am impressed that you recognized the "third" type! You are absolutely correct. She does clean vocals (the soft, melodic singing) and then she does death metal "growls" and the third one was still growling but higher pitched, so we tend to call that "screaming" - it's more present in black metal. She says at the end "Emeralds are ripped away". She says it 4 times - the first 3 is the death metal growling, and then the last one, she concludes with a higher pitched growl, akin to the black metal screams. You mentioned "There's a third" right after the fourth, so you definitely picked that up, well fucking done.

Jinjer is the band, they're Ukrainian. The woman is Tatyana and she's a force of nature - lots of study and practice to do that without damaging the vocal chords. Metalcore is what they call their genre. They're a lot of fun.
@arashi75m3 жыл бұрын
The key to doing the growl is to get your vocal cords completely relaxed and open and creating the sound with the vocal folds above the vocal cords. the sound is actually atonal and any "pitch" is created by changing the shape of the mouth. A completely different technique from normal singing vocal techniques.
@module79l283 жыл бұрын

Been waiting for this one... Knew you would be shook but would enjoy them. Jinjer is a super talented band. Tatiana is their singer and she is super talented. Not gonna lie...I have been WAITING FOREVER for you guys to get to Jinjer! They are the best thing to happen to music in recent memory in my opinion! Everything they've put out has been nothing short of great! The usual "next step" with them is "Perennial (live at Wacken 2019)" or "Teacher Teacher (music video)" but a couple of really good live songs that would be dope are "Retrospection - Live from Kiev" and "On The Top - Live from Kiev"...both are BANGERS!!! Don't be afraid of her singing style either...she and the boys are complete sweethearts. They put a lot of thought and energy into their music and have substance. Most of their songs deal with mental health issues, their experiences coming from a war-torn country or global climate issues (among others)...it isn't just Metal for the sake of putting out Metal music, they take a stand on a lot of real world topics. One last note...you'd be doing yourself a HUGE disservice by not checking out the lyrics! If reading them while filming your reaction doesn't work, definitely try to check them out after the fact. Complete poetry!

Tatiana Shmayluk is a vocal titan. What she does takes years of practice, along with amazing muscle and breath control. If you want more from them, "Judgement and Punishment" is a one-take video of Tatiana recording that track for the album, "Teacher, Teacher" is put together from concert footage, and "Perennial" live at Wacken Festival is a live outdoor stage shoot.

@@theoneandonlyCatseye Their song “Bad Water” doesn’t have any harsh vocals. And “Wallflower” is very chill for the majority of the song, with an incredible build. It’s not shocking when it shifts, unlike “Pisces”. “Beggars Dance” is all clean vocals, but it’s more of a one-off for them (kinda like an album outro). “Vortex” is another that slowly builds. I’d definitely start with those. You might find that the heaviness isn’t as much of an issue when you’re not abruptly smacked in the face by it. 😊

Also another suggestion for Female Friday is the band Epica featuring Floor Jansen, doing the song, "SANCTA TERRA". Epica is another female fronted band like Nightwish, Jinger and Within Temptation and their singer's name is Simone Simons who is one of Floor's best friends and is also classically trained like Floor. To hear the two of them together is just pure joy. This live version of Sancta Terra not only has the band Epica, with both Simone and Floor but also has a live orchestra and choir. They have an amazing new album just out, but it's not for the faint of heart. If you want to ease in you could try the live version of 'Judgement & Punishment, or the new video of 'Wallflower'. The band needs some recognition. The drummer is classically trained, and great pianist, the bassist is awesome, and the guitar player always serves the song rather than showing off. They put together unique musical compositions within the heaviness and distortion.

Tatiana has amazing breath control in her singing her growls and screams are from years of being self taught and practice. Now that you have jumped into the Jinjer rabbit hole. The band them selves are a very tight well practiced band as you will learn?

I live for Jinjer first times. And she sounds the same in concert. And the band is tight. Tatiana. They are from Ukraine

I remember thinking it looked like something you'd see played at a jazz club. I never liked growls until I heard Tatiana's. There's something incredibly special there. And nothing wrong with being both intrigued and frightened. ;) These folks are incredibly hard-working too, as well as their talent, so seeing them start to reach a bigger audience is incredibly gratifying because I know they deserve it. I've seen them twice and have tickets for October, plague willing. :). Perennial live at Wacken (pronounced Vaaken cuz 🇩🇪) is a great followup to see them do their thing on stage. Their newest Wallflower is a bit lighter (mostly) but epic. Home Back hits hard, being about their hometown in eastern Ukraine getting caught up in the war there, which forced them to leave their homes because it would have ended their ability to tour and record, and it speaks powerfully for the millions of ordinary people caught in every war around the world. A couple of others you have to check out are Melissa Bonny of Ad Infinitum with Marching On Versailles. And Courtney LaPlante of Spiritbox with Rule Of Nines one take vocal. Cheers!

Absolutely the best reaction I've seen to this....and I've seen ALOT of them. I almost wanted to say that you knew it was coming because of how you stopped right before "the moment" and talked about how soft it was but then it was clear by your reactions that you were genuinely shook lol.

Your reactions were HILARIOUS!!! I never heard this band before and I was dumbstruck, as well, but seeing your two jaws fall to the floor - and the look of FEAR on J's face - was freakin' priceless! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

For a change of pace you should watch Carole King “It’s Too Late” the live BBC concert version. Carole is one of the greatest female songwriters in American history and co-wrote “Natural Woman” for Aretha Franklin and “You’ve got a Friend” for James Taylor. Living Legend.

@@richwagener Hey Rich, my real name is Kees Wagener. About Evanescence, their singer Amy Lee is often compared with Floor Jansen of Nightwish. Floor fans think that Floor is much better. Both singers are great, Floor is amazing, she comes from Holland. I don't know the band Fall Out Boy, I will watch on You Tube

@@pietkeizer5216 Fall Out Boy is from Rockford, IL which is less than 2 hours from Chicago. So we consider them local. Not as local as the actual band “Chicago” who grew up near where I did.

@@NR-xd1vw Understood, and I'm not saying she is exclusive. The band (as a whole) is playing stuff that is innovative, even though her vocals may not be, vocals add to the composition. Jinjer are bringing some styles played by other bands more to popularity which is healthy for the music scene in general. Someone else has always done something before, but taken as a whole this is amazing and while not unchartered, definitely they are mastering it and bringing it more mainstream.
@unlucky_irish3 жыл бұрын
What's more amazing than her talent is that she only took vocal lessons as a young child and they never taught her the growl. She worked on it till perfection. And because she does the growl correctly, it puts very little strain on her vocal cords. She is absolutely amazing! And what separates her from other female growlers is her ability to literally switch from head voice to growl and back seamlessly!

Finally, I've been waiting for you two to find the Jinjer rabbit hole and discover why Tatiana is the QUEEN ! She can lull you into a daze with her beautiful melodic tone then rip your face off with her screams and growls. Buckle up kids cause as they say "you aint seen nothing yet". I recommend "Perennial" Live at Waken next just to dispel any doubts you might still have. Then "Teacher Teacher" and "Home Back" It is hard for Eugene, Vlad and Roman to get enough credit with Tati out front but they are incredible as well. Also get ready, the Jinjer Army is vast and loyal. They will likely swell your "family" ranks !
