When I was working construction, summers while still in high school, my boss had the two wheel drive version of the Ford 100. Except, his was cream colored, had a full instrument panel, and had a 390 V8. That truck, if driven by an expert, could be very fast off the line. One day, we had just picked up several bags of cement and lime and were stopped at a stoplight when a Chevy Nova pulled up beside us in the next lane. The driver of the Nova revved his engine several times and the passenger indicated they wanted to race. My boss just rolled his eyes, but, when the light changed, the old Ford shot off the line as if out of a cannon. My boss shifted from 2nd to 3rd without using the clutch. In short, he blew the Chevy away. I'm sure the Chevy had a higher top-speed, but we were already stopped at the next traffic light when the Nova came screeching to a stop next to us. This time, the driver didn't rev his engine. That 390 was a heck of a motor.

@@jackd2083 You beat me to it ... that's exactly the reason Ford won't bring it back. They want to put disposable crap out there like the 3.5 Eco-Boost that's going to be nothing but a money pit when those twin turbos wear out after the warranty is up.

One of the comments mentioned doing something like a raffle for the Toyota Tacoma. I think that is an excellent idea. People could buy a t-shirt for a chance to win. Make a special shirt with all the sponsors and the charity on it. The sponsors pay for the shirt. Charge 40/50 dollars per shirt. With a million subscribers, you could make a lot of money off of that truck. Put the truck on the shirt too. Maybe a signature from all the guys.
@deejayimm

That's a great idea, and on top of that Ivan Stewart might be willing to send a signature to the T-shirt manufacturer if he knows it's for charity.

Are they bad because you don't like the canvas, or do they fall apart? Just curious because I'm somewhat interested in one. I don't want to be stuck with a heavy topper, when I need to use the truck with no topper. I like the thought of being able to load up the truck then simply close the topper over the load. Saves my back that way, as well as not being able to kneel down on my previously broken right leg.

@@dewboy13 I’m sure they are a good cover for when you need to protect your payload from the elements. It folds out of the way when you don’t need it and doesn’t take much payload. That said, TFL has made that cover a permanent fixture on the raptor when it serves no function aside what I can only assume is intended to be aesthetic which it is not. It looks out of place in every way on that truck.

My last year in high school I bought a '65 ford F100 4x4 with the 352 CI engine. One of my all time favorite machines. As a kid I had no regrets when I sold it but now I wish I still had it. On the weekends my buddies and I would go 4wheeling and the lack of power steering and drum brakes made for an interesting experience. The most difficult trail I did in that truck was wheeler lake and, as some of you from colorado know, it is not a cake walk. So, yeah, its a decent 4wd machine. Looking forward to seeing more of this truck.

The '65 is your jewel truck there! The lightning bolt and gear badge indicates a 6cyl engine, a V8 badge indicates the V8. The frame on an F100 has a narrower height between lower and upper flange. If it's the wider frame (sorry, can't recall the dimensions off the top of my head), the truck is an F250. Many 6cyl engine 4x4 F250s were default equipped with 4.56 ratio differentials, while the V8s got 4:10 ratio diffs. There are plenty of exceptions, and special orders of the other ratio happened, too. Although the wide tires look good on the truck, They will reduce the fuel mileage and significantly increase the wear on the steering components and closed knuckles on the front axle, plus making it a real booger to steer. Best to stick with the innie wheels with narrow pizza-cutter tires. 4 wheel sizes were available: 16", 16.5", 17.5", and 19.5", all with narrow tires.

You can put a regular 65 bed on the truck and the bronco cut out flares work great

Congratulations Roman and Tommy - your stories even catch our interest down under here in South Australia where like most Aussies love our Utes (you call them trucks) and 4WDs - we have a strong Toyota community but we are seeing more of your RAM ‘trucks’ for heaving towing our roads now - John in SA

You guys sure that’s not a 240 inch I6? I had a ‘65 F200 with an original 240 with 4:10 rear. I believe the 65’s were also the first full year of the twin I beam suspension, which is pretty cool. Can’t wait to see what you do with it! My favourite generation of Ford pick up by far...

congratulations on the subscriber count. my friend is a factory trained "master" at Ferrari and his favorite in his extraordinary garage of American vehicles is the F-100. It doesn't have seat belts. It does have an "oscillating" fan on the dash which was allegedly factory installed. Absolutely not built for off-road, it's built for light loads in the bed over short distances with lots of space. no clearance, no articulation, not a tough powertrain. still, couldn't have more character and charm. meeting up on the weekend for a drive and burgers for lunch with millionaire and billionaire Ferrari collectors, nothing is more of a showstopper than "the pickup" … the _other_ F car …

That Toyota Racing Wrap reminds me of the Toyota trucks that raced in the Baja in the early 1980s.

The government used to order 1/2 ton trucks with 3/4 ton axles. Ford and Dodge made thousands of them that way, some even with short wheelbase.
