It was such a relief to find the right people so fast! Incredible network for Overlanding in South Africa. 🤙 Pon Steyn they must be one of the most responsive workshops we have visited, the service is 10/10. Stephy is such a hard working "frenchy", she hosted us and we saw live how disciplined and committed she is, to be able to continue living their type of life (*Leigh was also working also hard at the oil platform). Big inspiration!

I have a 2" lift but with standard propshafts. No probs. Now you mention it maybe I should fit wide angled prop shafts. Don't feel overawed by meeting Grizzly'n'Bear. They are ordinary dudes like the rest of us. You are creating your story which is an inspiration to others. I have been to many of the places you have, almost following each other's footsteps. My recent trip ended. S. America next.
@Thebluelandy
@Thebluelandy 10 ай бұрын
Hey, I believe we have roughly a 2” lift as well, I did it cause I was reading that the maximum you can do without touching the probs. And I needed it to run the 255/85 MT’s. But I got quite some vibrations and had to replace u-joints every 10k km with the standard prob. That's why I went to the wide-angle probs. Which again was the wrong choice. The wide angle reduced vibrations but still failed. If you want to change something I would recommend the double Kardan probs to be on the save side. But if yours is running find leave it until it fails…

Fantastic editing! I mean I was completely transfixed! Interesting about those props. I'm running a 300tdi on 130 springs with standard props. Never and issue. And with the extra constant weight I'd have imagined your props would have been at an even better angle than mine. Perhaps the quality of the props? That Double Decarden will sort you out. And the chap was right. Rinse it off and inspect the seal but don't constantly over-grease. I use Morris K48 these days which keeps the water out 👍
@Thebluelandy
@Thebluelandy Жыл бұрын
Hey thank you so much! That's interesting. My prob shaft story began as I changed the brushings at the front radius arm. The old ones where gone and the axle was tilted. With the axle in the right position I started to get vibrations and I went through U-Joints every 10k with the standard probs. That's why I went to a Terrafirma Wideagle (the one that failed) and it fixed the U-Joint problem and reduced vibrations. I was reading about problems with the double cadan that's the reason why I didn't go straight to the double cadan. Now with the double cadan we have zero vibrations. But it's also a brand new prob. I'm curious how it will perform over time!

I have a Discovery 2, which run the double cardan front propshaft. I live in Australia, so a lot of corrugated dirt roads and hard 4x4ing. I found I only got around 10 thousand kms or less by not regularly greasing the propshaft, and i even had one fail at around 3 thou kms. I found greasing it regularly does make a huge difference - I am 35 thousand km on the same branded propshaft. So I'd recommend you grease it regularly as you were before. Sorry to add to the confusion, but that's my personal experience
@Thebluelandy
@Thebluelandy Жыл бұрын
Hey Kyle, that's a bit shocking! I was hoping we were done with prob shafts! I guess what Henny from Heldenberg Probshafts meant was if you damage the seal you need to grease them all the time. So if you start greasing a lot you need to keep that spirit up 😅

Another interesting chapter of the BlueLandy saga. Just imagine the sheer intestinal fortitude of those CheeseHead explorers circa 400 years back setting up a new city/town in such a remote place.They were lucky that Bantu Africans had not yet migrated to the area.....but only Hotentots.(Wilbur Smith captured some of this stuff in his earlier novels.....his later works did become a bit tedious and formulaic) A well planned trip it seems....you certainly wouldn't want to arrive in Terre Del Fuego in the Southern Hemisphere winter!!.
@Thebluelandy
@Thebluelandy Жыл бұрын
It is feeling like an end to a long journey and the start to one that we don't really know how long will last. Interesting times 😎 If the explorers came in winter with the weather of this year, they must have been pretty tough 😳🥶 It's funny that we thought about shipping around May 2023 or so. But things take more time in such a trip and it was well worth it to spend extra time. We will be traveling a bit around Argentina before coming down to Tierra del Fuego with "warmer" temperatures 😜

Yes! We did that as well, as mentioned in the video. We know that Cape Aguhlas is the most Southern point in Africa, hence the place where both oceans officially meet, but I think this one has a bigger significance in my opinion as it was the tipping point for all the shipping routes coming from Europe and starting their journey East! Maybe I should have said that, so I don't create so much fuss in the comments 🤣🤣🤣🤣
