Hey so there’s this small KZbinr. I don’t know him personally or really at all but I know he’s working on cars and loves barn finds because of you. He is currently working on a 1975 trans am firebird. Before he decided to do KZbin he worked on the car with his father. His father later sadly committed suicide. Even though he doesn’t know me I know his channel and he has my condolences. After the passing of his father he started the KZbin channel and has been working on the car. Even though I don’t really know him I think he deserves more support for what he’s been through. His KZbin channel is named midnightTA. Even though you’ll probably never see this I still thought that I should let you know.

Fun stereo fact: It's actually very common to have no rear speakers in Sound Quality builds. It is much harder to have a proper sound stage when the audio is also coming from behind you. Subs are fine anywhere basically because bass isn't directional, but speakers actually can worsen the sound quality if the placement isn't good.
@macgroober13962 жыл бұрын
I'd imagine any problems are more pronounced in a coupe or sedan, versus a suv or van.
@noooooooooooooooooooooooooooo02 жыл бұрын
@@macgroober1396 Depends on the exact speaker placement really. An SUV with speakers in the rear doors would be more problematic than a sedan or coupe with speakers in the rear deck. The 4th gens started in the early 90's. As late as 2001 they were talking about changing the looks of the Trans Am because, as then VP Bob Lutz said, "A friend of mine said the Trans Am looks like a school yard bully that wants to take your lunch. It looks too mean." Which shows you how out of touch parts of GM were, but I think GM was always waffling back and forth about the life of the 4th gens. During the same talk at the 2001 Grand Prix Gathering, Lutz also said they were going to make an LS1 powered AWD Grand Prix "...because we can." The next year they had the prototype for it...but it never got produced.

Alex, the WS6 also came with wider rims/tires. The Ram Air is functional, especially if you live somewhere where there's little rain (I'm in Vegas) and you cut out the rain baffles. Those rain baffles keep the air filter dry by catching the water and sending it out little drain holes. I used a dremel to remove them and you could see my K&N filter through the hood. BTW, the SS and the WS6 hoods are completely different. The SS isn't a straight shot no matter what you do. It's just a fresh air intake. My buddy and I put a vacuum gauge on my airbox after removing the baffles and there was less vacuum in the box at high speeds with the engine at the same rpm and load, according to HP Tuners datalog.

The ram air intake should give extra power if the tune takes advantage of the additional air pressure. Dyno's are unlikely to rate it as it relies on the increased air pushed in by the speed you are going. And crappy speakers can create rattle and other noise that wrecks the sound. And the power wire is 12v so not a danger for you to pull apart with your hands. Only a risk if you drop it onto something that is grounded to the car.
@davebrown97252 жыл бұрын
Having worked in the car stereo world, I was halfway wanting to leave the 4 Guage power wire in the car, until you pulled apart the splice. That butt connector had been crimped with wire cutters, prob because they did not have a real crimper for it. Glad you returned this old bird to near original. The subs looked nicely done (other than the crap terminal cups), hope they are good enough for your white bird.
@stuartd97412 жыл бұрын
That butt connector..a fire waiting to happen.. Don't understand why they didn't use one piece of cable from amp to battery.. especially high current cabling. Anyways that install looked good. Nicely done.. Didn't think the wire for the sub they pulled out looked thick enough... I used to use monster cable many a years ago.. I've seen thin speaker cable used as sub woofer cable🙈
@davebrown97252 жыл бұрын
@@stuartd9741 yes, horrible crimp. Should have had a power distribution block to split to 4 ga off to the two 8 ga for the amps. Some of the stereo install looked good, other than the small wires to the subs (although a very short run), and the cheesy terminal cups, but some of the rest was very questionable or amateurish. That thing under hood was a wireless immobilizer for the Directed alarm system. When you armed the alarm it sent a signal to a module that was usually connected to the fuel pump or starter circuit. This way if you were trying to steal the car you couldn’t just trace the disable wire from the alarm directly to a relay that was tapped in somewhere and bypass it how most systems are done.

Been watching this channel for the past few months, quality content guys! I’m a S197 Mustang guy but the Trans Am WS6 is growing on me. Nice work!

I love the GM cars from the 90s and early 2000s . I know a lot of people think the interiors suck but not me.

Wow. So nice to see a great video of a great car. I have two trans ams. A 88 GTA and a 96 TA. You inspired me to do the Brembo brake up grade in my 96. Love the channel. Keep doing real world builds. Thanks.

That's a beauty! You guys did a great job on this one. I bought a new Gold Firebird in 1985. Not a T/A, but it was beautiful anyway. It had the 305 V-8 and I enjoyed it for several years before transitioning to a late '70s 911 with 10k miles.

Alex while you’re near the white WS6 installing the audio system in stall some sound deadening it will be worth it… When I look at a vehicle and it has a aftermarket audio system in it the first thing I look at is the power and grounds, I look at the fuse to see if it’s hanging etc, if undersized cable was used and if wire and harnesses were cut

Beautiful car. Those late 4th gen ws6 are some of the meanest looking cars ever!

Great video. Sweet detailing; made that car look fine.

Former 4th gen owner. Goddamn I need one back! I had 94 V-6 Camaro for a first car. Now I Need a T/A I remember being 17 at the new for 98 auto show and seeing this new nose on a black T/A, my jaw dropping and thinking "Come.... to Butthead"

Guys another great mini series on the TA! At first I was like leave the tunes intact but after seeing the hack job on the wiring- you definitely made the right move yankin out the clutter and welding cable going through the door jam 😜. I'm with you on the factory clean look, yes its subjective but shows way nicer this way. Noice car and it looks like your doing well on Mods & Miles! Best of luck and btw can't wait to see the Chevy van project 😎😎👍👍

Cars sell faster and for more money when they are stock. Even knowing it was modded prior, if it can present as stock it is more reassuring to most buyers. - 1992 1LE 5spd 42K miles still have it.

Alex, you and Peter make such a great team! Keep up the good work and don't freeze your tailbone off this winter.

Eraser wheels for a drill will be your best friend to remove the double sided tape. They are great for removing old damaged tape style pin stripe without damaging the paint.

Whenever I think about modifying my car, I try to consider how poorly whatever mods I do will age with it. Thank you for bringing this car back to its true self Edit: especially getting that front lip off - people actually wanted that to stay?

I think the same about tattoos... especially on the face. lol

I said keep the front lip. Only because it was part of the whole kit/package. But looking at the front with it removed looks ok.

Honestly, that lip wasn't too bad. I personally wouldn't go for it, but it was tasteful.
