Just some advice. I’ve done excavating for 28 years. First thing you can use the truck to pull the dozer. You just need to sneak up on the chain cable or strap. Whitehall ever year using. Once you get rolling you need more speed than the tractor will go. You can also put it in a higher gear and that will spin the engine speed faster Second You should be making more use of the backhoe!! You can dig all around that stump or a future stump before you use an axe or shovel. In the business we call a shovel a Hickory crane!! I would much rather use Hydraulics over a Hickory Crane!! Plus if you use the backhoe and dig the bank up and brake it up, the bucket will dig into it much easier. Something to think about is when you use the tractor to move a pile of dirt. You should get behind the pile before you load the bucket so when you have a load all your doing is backing up and going forward with as little turns possible to save on your tractors ware and tear. Ok I’ll stop so I don’t start sounding like a know it all lol. Keep up on your videos. I really enjoy watching all the work you two are doing around there and the house is looking great. I thought you were going to surround the house with the fence. That way the dogs would be able to get the full way around to get rid of any unwanted visitors. Regardless, the whole place is looking so much better and finally moving the old mud room a ways away from the house helps with the appearance. Remember when operating your dozer, you need to keep it off hillsides or the tracks could come off. Then you have a huge problem. This is coming from a voice of experience. GOT mine in a situation like that and broke the track. Took me several weeks to get it fixed.

Greg my dad always kept a worn-out chainsaw chain around just for cutting in the dirt. I thought you had a backhoe attachment for the tractor. Dig the bank out with it and the stump. Use your pallet forks to move the shed. Also you can use the backhoe to slope the bank to keep it from eroding away. Good job on what you did. Happy Easter.

I have a couple suggestions, comments, and questions. Not sure if you are doing it or not, but, use the highest gear in both the tractor (of course as high as it will still pull it) and the dozer, to make the engine turn faster. I have jump started many things, but, never a Dozer LOL Oh and are you spraying ether into the intake every couple times of trying to crank it? When you mill wood, and lets say you wanna mill it true... say 2X4's. Do you mill it different dimensions when it's green vs when it's dry? It's so nice to see you both working to "snaz" the place up. Your property has SOOO much potential. I know, "Rome wasn't built in a day", but seeing just little improvements is one of my fav type videos! When moving that bank back away from your house, I'd slope it away from the house, and away from the woodshed. That way, when the snow melts, it'll have a good way for the water to run away from both.

My one piece of advice when landscaping /"ground cover is you best friend" you don't have to mow it, weed it or rake it and you can get all kinds that bloom or not or are evergreen or not ask a local and you will find a "ground cover" that you and the animals will love

A 2 inch hole vertically down the center of the stump and a stick of dynamite would have been the answer BEFORE the house was built but... As for the dozer, pull the donkey motor OUT, clean it off properly and bolt it to a STURDY workbench. Then get the motor started and running PROPERLY. I am sure that among your 52+ thousand followers there must be at least a dozen that have had experience on those motors and that will be able to help you out in the comments. Then on the dozer itself... FIRST THING is to find a manual on the thing. Maybe a printed one but definitely a digital one. Try contacting the manufacturers. The dozer motor has a "decompression" system that holds either the inlet valves or the exhaust valves open so that the motor has no compression while the donkey motor spins the thing up - make SURE that is working and all the fuel lines, pumps, injector lines and suchlike are good. DON'T remove any injector pipes UNLESS YOU REALLY HAVE TO. Priming old worn diesel motor injection systems PROPERLY is A TOTAL PAIN. Remount the donkey motor and "simply" properly (even if you have to fabricate new brackets as I don't think it is the original motor) and start the dozer. Sounds easy doesn't it... Rarely is though... That old dozer has probably had a pretty hard life but I'm willing to bet that with a little bit of TLC you can get it perfect for what you need it to do around the homestead. Don't tackle it in one big project, do maybe 30 minutes to an hour every evening or 2nd evening on it AND LIVE STREAM IT... That way your followers with the knowledge can help you in the comment section live. Best of luck.

Greg, I have found that if you tack a back-hoe and loosen up what you want to haul away with the bucket, it's easier on the tractor. Digging into a raw bank of earth is hard and you could use your hoe to dig around an under the stumps. Just saying from someone that has moved a lot of dirt with small equipment.

You need to use starting fluid or ether on these old dozers. They did not become instant start until the 90s. All of them had to be preheated. I personally have a squirt can that I squirt about a tablespoon of gasoline into the breather to get mine started. Mine is a D5 1981 or 1982 model. Good luck with yours.

to get tree trunks out of the ground easy: drill (several) holes in the flat side of the trunk which rises out of the ground, fill it with salt and poor warm water on it, let it rest for some time, and what I found out personally: after a few monts having had it rested, I could easily dig it out and nearly pull it out by hand.

When bump starting the dozer, try in gear, clutch out, compression release on. Start pulling, which will get the motor turning (fuel and oil pumping), then flip off the compression release. Just be ready with the clutch if she does catch. And pulling downhill would probably help too.

If you have a pressure washer you can clear the dirt around the roots. You will be soaked and covered in mud, but it may be easier if given the lack of any heavy equipment. And when you use the chain saw you will not be cutting dirt.

Before and after Bulldozers, Block and Tackle were/are used very effectively. Removal of stumps was done by twisting, using a fallen tree as a leverage arm. Ron PTL USA

I grew up during the depression (30s) and we had to clear fields of stumps. We had mules but mostly shovels, axes and wedges. We split the stumps or just had to keep digging.

If you have a old tractor tire you can rap a chain around the base of stump run the chain over the tire and to the back of the tractor running the chain over the tire will give you more leverage 😊

I don't know much about bulldozers but as a young man I had trucks and such that needed to be "rolled off" to start. There was actually a street in our town called "Push Street" since all of us poor farmers needed a street going down hill we could park our trucks on so we could roll 'em off. My point is, all my vehicles started better in second or even third gear. First gear tends to be too low to start a vehicle and they will turn easier in a higher gear. You may be already doing this but just in case you aren't. :-)

@ 15:25 burn baby burn, some people score the top of the stump with a chainsaw, some place a 55 gallon drum around the top and burn in it some do the Swedish torch or rocket stove method / I do think if you have a large drill and drill strategically so it creates a draft it will burn in a few days of leaf blower and adding scrap wood around the Grandaddy Stump

A stump fight is always satisfying, and that was a big fight. I have a 60" Woods Box Scraper that goes on the 3 pt hitch and would be faster moving that dirt to the other side of the house. Also with all the dirt lanes you have it makes sense. The box blade has a rear facing blade as well and can be used like a dozer.
