Most individuals consider living through characteristics such as working a full time job, owning a house and having children/pets to take care of. They never really take the opportunity to ponder life outside of these societal norms and when you tell others that you would prefer to work less, own less and perhaps travel more frequently you are considered living on the fringes. Many people I've talked with deep down desire life outside of work and are seeking fulfillment. One must fight hard against the group mentality thinking to live the life you want.

So many people in my life (friends, family, girlfriends) have tried to scare me into not doing the things I really wanted to do. I cut down on my interactions with these negative people and man did my options open up. What's crazy is these same people flip flop on their opinion of you a year later when you're successful. Doing those things they were discouraging you from doing makes them respect you even more ironically. I think a lot of people hold you back from what you want because THEY themselves are afraid to pursue those things.

I had to stop and watch this. My mom recently passed, and I am excited to be able to start really LIVING. I am handicap, but I was responsible for caring for my mother for the past 15 years. In that 15 years I was DX w/ cancer twice, 2 autoimmune diseases and type II diabetes. After the house sells and I organize my life, I am hitting the road. Tim, something I learned from one of my relationships, in every relationship in your life you learn at least one thing about life and one thing about yourself. This isn't limited to intimate relationships, but work relationships, family relationships, etc. If you can take just one new piece of knowledge away from each relationship you are growing as a person. I keep this in mind as I go through life. I am excited for my new life, yes I am sad my mother is gone, but with 3 other children to help take of her and didn't I was blessed with her wealth of knowledge that they missed out on. But, it is my time now, with my death sentence looming nothing is going to stand in my way!!!!
@diabeatit5189
@diabeatit5189 Жыл бұрын
No death sentence looming, it's all curable! And now that you are free you'll get your health back. Being in situations like you were is what causes our bodies to not be able to fight off the cancer cells we are born with. The stress and poor diets feed their mutation. You are well on your way, I know it!! And I say this as a person who was told I wouldn't see 21 due to my poor health since birth!

I was brought up with the great American consumer creed that most important goal was job, house, car, $ in the bank. Loving what you do, new experiences, love of the avant-garde was never mentioned. It was touted as being easier, happier life, but I didn't observe it making my parents happy. Instead i saw them with stale work routines, irritable, house/yard work, weekend chores. My mom with diamond earrings wearing an old housedress. I choose a bit different path. If i could do over, I'd have owned even less, traveled more, made nonconformity my mission.

My wife passed away from brain cancer 6 months ago. I was her full-time caregiver at home till the end. Watching her suffer, especially in the last few months, completely destroyed me. Afterwards, I felt like a zombie, staying in bed and unable to even take care of myself. I became stuck, leaving the house every 4 or 5 days for essentials. I have never known such despair and guilt in my life. After recently discovering your channel, I began watching several videos each day, usually in bed. You have inspired me in such a deep and meaningful way. Today, I actually left the house and walked a couple of miles and did some light strength training. I truly feel you have been what I needed to start taking some baby steps. I am grateful beyond words.

I genuinely feel for the people who are essentially trapped in the societal machine more than myself. We've all been indoctrinated into this system that trains us to be damn near completely dependent on its resources (how many people are self-reliant enough to get the food for their family outside of a grocery store, or raise their children without the watchful and scrutinizing eye of the government?) This is not a free society, regardless of how much we in America like to tout it as such. There are institutions to be adhered to (with the threat of imprisonment if you refuse) the moment you're born, essentially. A big part of the reason I chose not to have children is because of the compulsory education system in the States. Even in private or homeschooling environments, you as a parent are obligated to participate in that system within their guidelines and principles. And I just... refuse. I already got out of it as a child, I'm sure as hell not going to chain myself to it again by bringing another soul here. There's a lot to get tied up in within this existence. Be mindful of the actions you choose and the contracts you enter into, friends.

Thanks for this video, Tim. You truly appreciate the journey of experiencing freedom and trying to convey that message to your viewers. As much as we think money is not that important, to some degree you do need a minimum amount of money to enjoy your freedom. A (wo)man has got to at least eat and sleep to feel fulfilled at the primary level. If non-materialistic people would have this primary level of income, I'm 100% sure you can experience full freedom by making smart choices. Excess money doesn’t add so much to your happiness, but the primary needs do determine 95% of your happiness. As you mentioned, it is not mutually exclusive, earning money and living your life. The system however does not want you to reach that level of happiness as governments despise independent people. It is a government's biggest fear. That's why the majority will always be trapped in this hamster wheel.

I love your talks. I do however find it ironic when Hobby Lobby interrupts a profound observation on minimalism, mid thought, with an enthusiastic counter-pitch for consumerism being the key to happiness. : )

the disease of being "Average" or "Normal", just like everybody else, and it seems the right thing to do in a sense, or the proper, sanctioned thing to do, because you look around and everybody does it. Read something like that in Maslow's "Toward a Psychology of Being"

I agree but society thinks we can't live till I saved 2 million 😅. Tim I am working on my mental health so I can live and do what I love to do. Fears of not having enough $$$ as I might be a burden if I go broke or get sick. Just take me out back and shoot me because I am not going to the hospital 😂 Leaving bedside nursing which is making me sick mentally, physically and emotionally. It is a like an abusive relationship I just keep staying. No am done and have a therapist to help me. I just got stuck. This is my last travel nurse job. I haven't been able to be present and able to enjoy my journey.

The other day I hurt myself and called an airline and asked if everyone is now allowed to travel.
