I could see by your reaction that you were shocked at the skeleton dance and chant. Many other reactors thought of the same cartoon. However, picture the whole audience breaking out into the Skeleton dance and chant live during the show.

For me this song is a sequel to "Weak Fantasy" from their previous EFMB album. Both songs are about religion, but neither is anti-religion, just against people using religion to justify their immoral actions. Kai Hahto had to add many more drums to his left side just for this song.

Look at the whippersnapper bustin' out the cartoon from the 20's. I would agree that Tuomas didn't offer up any fan service with this album. I think he wrote what he wanted to write, wrote to challenge his bandmates, and trusted his art to find an audience. Lots of KZbin is picking up on how very good Nightwish are, but (and partly due to the Nightwish Army's influence) they're centering their attention on the Wacken 2013 show. That's a tremendous show, to be sure, but Tuomas' tastes and influences have evolved. I think Troy's influences are all over this new album. I don't mean that in a negative way, I think he probably just exposed Tuomas to new music and ideas, and he perhaps spent more time with Tuomas than the rest of the band because they worked together on the Auri project with Tuomas' wife. This album leans further away from the "metal" part of "symphonic metal" than previous albums, which isn't my preference generally, but I can't honestly fault the execution. I really enjoy this album.

It is the one thing that troubles me about this song as did the lyrics of Yours in an Empty Hope and Weak Fantasy. I understand where Tuomas is coming from, so it is to be expected in their music.

@@PittDaddy Why would it trouble you?
@PittDaddy
@PittDaddy 4 жыл бұрын
@@aeldin131 I realize that there have been many, many corruptions of religion throughout history, but songs like these tend to lump the truth of God in with the abuses done in his name. The humanist viewpoint praises all things in nature while often dismissing the faith of people in the One who created them. Yes, people become tribal and push other out of their groups, but this is the antithesis of what God is about. That being said, I love listening to Tuomas's music.

@PittDaddy
@PittDaddy 4 жыл бұрын
@@aeldin131 Whether I or any other believer's understanding of the truth of God is right or wrong, Truth is not relative. God is who He is. Whether you believe God exists or not is irrelevant to whether God actually does exist. The author CS Lewis probably said it best... "Christianity, if false, is of no importance, and if true, of infinite importance. The only thing it cannot be is moderately important."

I think the dance of the skeletons refer to Danse Macabre. "The Danse Macabre also called the Dance of Death, is an artistic genre of allegory of the Late Middle Ages on the universality of death: no matter one's station in life, the Danse Macabre unites all." Wikipedia.

Interesting. Religions splits all humans ("Abraham cut into three": the three predominant religions, Christianity, Islam, Judaism) but Death finally makes us all equal. It doesn't matter what your beliefs are, we are all gonna die one day and be those dancing skeletons.

Also: Tuomas is a huge Disney fan. Disney's first "Silly Symphony" (animation set solely to music) was "The Skeleton Dance". Be sure to check out the Silly Symphony "Musicland". Sheer brilliance.

This album is a protest against all kind of crimes against humans and nature. It surprised me and is remarkable that most reactions only handle about the music and less about the meaning of a song. And that’s now just the big issue. Men does whatever they please and disregard what’s happening, what we’re doing. Tribal in particular talks about several bad things men do at our planet. Several crimes against humanity are coming from ancient traditions and wrong interpretations of The Book, like the lyrics said and the video showed: ‘Abraham cut into three. Man found gods and began to preach.’ (There are three religions having Them Book’: Judes, Christianity and Islam. all sons coming from Abraham/Ibrahim.) Also the lyrics tell us about other bad situations under cover of religion and tradition: ‘Sing the praise of your creation Bride-prices, thought crimes, blind minds The Word hides vivid monsters’ (Worldwide tribesmen did awful things to their members and others. People of a self created group act criminal against opposing groups where you might expect they will live in peace with each other, but don’t.) This is a hard message but we have to open our eyes and react to wrong situations who seems to became normal on this world.
