I had mice every year. Same area. Used traps, never poison, but every year the little turds would appear again. Used steel wool & never saw another turd again. It works.

Just a suggestion. Next time you are at Lowes buy the rubber floor mat that is sold by the foot and line underneath the sink. It has saved my vanities when the old faucet developed leak.

Great job. My husband also dislikes having to seat a toilet because the space is always limited! As a mom of 3 boys, I have a suggestion-mount some water-proof material (plexiglass or counter top material) on the two walls around the sink. It will protect your paint job and sheetrock (even though it is waterproof) AND it’s easier to clean than scrubbing the wall.

We bought a toilet recently, got it home opened the box and it was the wrong toilet. I said it fine, he said NO the plumbing goes up inside the toilet and I ain't messing with that. (I would have liked it because the P-trap area that usually collects dust and other "stuff" was enclosed by smooth sides. A designer toilet, clean lines.) Now, this was after removing the old toilet that the flang was metal and rusted to the screws and the floor with all that wax ring crap smeared all over the floor around the sewer pipe. It did come up with lacquer thinner. We boxed it up and returned it for the correct one. It finally got installed using the newer wax ring. SO I feel your nightmare!! The bathroom is looking very nice! Well done ya'll. BTW, we also say it's good enough, meaning not as good as a professional getting BIG BUCKS an hour but good enough for DIY and done correctly.

Line the bottom of the sink cabinet with peel and stick tile. It will be protected from accidental water overflow then.

Two things I would add: 1. If the toilet is NOT resting flat, be ready to have some plastic shims on hand. 2. Not sure if you did this or not, but apply silicone under the vanity top to secure it to the wall/bottom cupboard. You both did such a great job, real troopers!

We had the same issue you guys had with that flange, the difference was my husband yanked that puppy out, went to Ace and got the same type wax ring we’ve had always used. Lol Thanks for doing the investigation on way it didn’t work.

Just a tip, I learned the hard way. You might want to cover the screws that come up through bottom of the toilet with silicone to keep them from rusting. Do they start rusting the minute they leave the store??? One more trick to keep them dry is glue their caps in place so no water/cleanser can puddle under them. I'm looking forward to seeing the shower curtain, towels, and mirror you have chosen. Squeels!!!☮️💖🙏

One suggestion I read said get solid brass bolts, not plated steel. Won't rust.

I used to work for a pest control company- they used steel wool and spray insulation to seal the steel wool from condensation (condensation will rust the steel wool) - the mice may try to chew on it, once they hit the steel wool- it hurts their teeth and they move on!

I totally understand about the kids putting things down the drain. My 2 kids weren’t bad but my 2 grandkids-Bonnie & Clyde-were awful about putting everything into the commode! Their favorite item to put into the commode was my oldest daughters phone! Lol

FYI for viewers wanting to use this ring: If you look closely, there is a black plastic "cap" inside the ring which protects the wax's shape (video mark 9:27 shows the shinny black "protector" cap inside the center of the ring). That plastic cap needs to be removed and discarded. The cap was not removed and blocked the toilet from being lowered. At the 9:46 mark, he lifts the toilet up and you can see the "cap" has shifted. Again, it needs to be removed and thrown away. It is not part of the installation.

In the vanity under the sink put floor tiles on the bottom. Last for ever and helps with any water issues. My wife also put cheap place and press floor tiles on all the kitchen shelves in the cabinets. Easy to keep clean and lasts for ever.

@Opy Brook hi, it's a toughened, clear or frosted sheet of glass, which is in the shape of a sail. It quite often has a towel rail on the bathroom side. Easy to clean and doesn't stick to you if you accidentally touch it when your wet. 👍

I had both bathrooms in my house completely renovated( demoed to the stud walls and drain lines in slab replaced) last fall. I did not take into consideration they would use LOW FLOW replacement faucets and shower valves.🤬 Only regret. The renovation cost a fortune but the crews did a great job and I was very pleased with the outcome.

I absolutely hate plumbing in the bathroom. I have used both of the wax rings you used and I have had more problems with the first one you used than the old style. I guess if I really knew what I was doing it wouldn't be so bad lol. Good job guys!

That is the one thing I absolutely HATE dealing with when it comes to plumbing is the drain system. I was looking for a better system at Lowe's and the guy said all they had was those cheap plastic jobs like you described. Gee, wonder why I don't have a functional sink yet. 🙄

Great job guys. We remolded a half bath same way lament flooring. When we went to replace the toilet same issue. We replaced the flange to accommodate the right height installed toilet with a single wax ring. Great every thing was working again. Until a few months later I noticed a stench coming from that bathroom and there was water weeping at the base. We were at our wits end so we called a plumber. He fixed it by replacing the wax rings except he doubled up the wax rings. When he pressed the toilet back down on the flange it sealed the flush drain. Never leaked again. That fix cost $250. So if this issue comes up in the future maybe you can give that a try so you don’t have to call a plumber. Keep up the good work guys!

wax works and is cheap, always has, that's why it has been around so long. Sometimes people try to reinvent the wheel, I work at Lowes in plumbing and never recommend these fancy new set ups, also on your drain, the trap arm length should be the double the diameter of the drain. Using 1 1/2 drain pipe, your length would be at minimum 3", this is so your water doesn't siphon out of the trap. Your bathroom came out fantastic, for some reason I struggle with smaller rooms lol

I like that sink drain. Mine lets too much stuff through and I can't clean the trap out without re plumbing it. Your bathroom is so pretty. I love the flooring!!

Plumbing is always a pain. ALWAYS.. I don't care how well prepared you are, how many extra supplies you've bought, or how many times you've done this chore before- there are always multiple trips to the store to get that 1 thing you didn't know you needed. Or pick up a different size of something. Or a duplicate of something else because you messed up the first one
