I cut the long serpentine belt tool in half. Took me 4 minutes to take off belt and new one on. Spent 1.4 hours fiddling with long 3/8” tool and finally got smart and cut it. I will buy another set $20 won’t kill me

This video and comments helped me out so much... Thank you Mayor and Townsmen and Women... I used the "Jack Trick" 🙂and it work so smoothly. I started my loop around the crankshaft, pulley tensioner, then the AC Pump. I used a jack and big flathead screwdriver, like a foot in half or two long to push the "Pulley tensioner" up, from the ground with the jack. Note, you have to push it up, quite a bit, I didn't want to push it up and break or something, but to save you time, you have to push it up about 2 to 4 inches, possibly a little more. It will make it easier for you to slip the belt over the Alternator. Make sure it covers all of the moving parts for the belt. Once your happy, slowing lower the jack and make sure belt is resting correctly over all parts. Go start your car and come check it and make sure its moving over everything correctly and then turn it off and your good to start installing back your cover plate, behind tire. Passenger side. It is tight, but this video helps out alot... Awesome video and thank you and just wanted to share my exp

Jack with a hammer handle on the tensioner worked great. Not difficult at all. Once the belt is off except for the tensioner, remove the jack. You can then push the tensioner up by hand far enough to get the belt out from under the tensioner. Don't do it like they did leaving the slack at the top. That makes it hard. Just put the belt on every where but the bottom. It slips right on. CHEERS! .

I don't know if you'll see this but the idea with the Jack and piece of wood was a great idea but I used a metal file instead of wood and Jack the tensioner pulley up the belt slipped on perfectly! Now the fun part is remembering how to put it back together but thank you very much your video was very helpful

Well, I used a 3/8" breaker bar with a metal tube extension and that worked quickly, no need for using a hydraulic jack. If you don't have one, this will work but it makes it pretty difficult, as you experienced.

It was what we had at the time and it worked. :)

My neck's not red enough tto do it that way! I did it in five minutes with the correct breaker bar, 3/8" with a short steel tube to hold it in place for leverage. It's more entertaining this way, I grant.

Mr. Mayor - HUGE thanks to you and Bob. I've only owned my 06 HHR for a few months so my dad and I haven't worked on it much and had no idea how to do the belt. Your "piece of wood" trick was the ticket! We did about the same thing and it worked great. Car is purring down the road once again. Thanks and Merry Christmas!! - Chuck

FYI there is no rest of the inner fender to take apart without a Sawzall. The correct tool is $20 @ harbor tools then Cut aprox a 3rd off the handle of the gigantic 3/8 tool and walla done in minutes.
