Frankly, even money cannot buy quality education, sadly. So there is atleast some equality among inequality. Well, I agree, that govt schools are in a really bad shape. Some good work happening in Delhi, though, thanks to AAP.

In developed countries like US > 90% of kids study in the state run schools which are free and provide good education. Unlike in India where "most" govt schools are badly run, teachers though paid much better than in pvt schools do not turn up or are disinterested. Exceptions are there of course such as KVs which were created for the children of central govt employees, Sainik/Army schools for armed forces and Sanskriti for kids of IAS officers and few other govt schools. As a result even the poorest of the poor would not like to send their kids to govt schools where they know kids will not learn anything. In this background Congress and their NAC advisors framed the RTE law that puts the burden of providing "free" education to all children on privately run Hindu owned schools (yes, minority run schools have been kept out of the ambit of this discriminatory law). Under RTE 25% of pvt aided or unaided schools have to set aside 25% of their seats for economically weaker sections of society for which the govt will reimburse the fees (among other provisions). RTE is not applicable to minority institutions even if govt aided, govt schools and boarding schools such as Doon school. Practically what is happening is that govt being govt does not reimburse RTE dues to schools on time (in Maharashtra RTE dues were not paid to schools for 4 years, similar situation in Tamizh Nadu), fee controls means the school is unable to pass the burden to paying customers. As a result of this `license raj` many pvt Hindu schools are closing down across the country unable to bear the burden of unpaid dues of RTE. If a purely capitalist society like USA can provide free and fair education to their children why cannot India, a professedly socialist nation do similarly ? The solution to our education woes is not forcing private sector to provide facilities that government should as a rule.

All education is a right and should be free . Higher education should be subsidised by the Govt. In India, private schools are nothing but a money making excercise in exploitation of parents.

I think there are two reasons: 1. All schools are supposed to be non-profit, so they are sitting on surplus funds that they can't divert to other business. So they are just increasing their expenses (by paying teachers more etc.) in the process of competing with each other to retain talent. 2. Government schools are so bad, that their demand has increased too much. Should have charter schools instead to bridge the gap.

Education is biggest deprivation of the poor and marginalized class today aided and abetted by ruling class in collusion with their rich cronies for mutual benefit. How would the poor ever come out of poverty if the poor kids are deprived of a basic and decent primary education. Earlier at least they had a chance to go to a gov school and socialize with other kids from more privileged background therefore not feel excluded and inferior on the basis of caste, class and status. One can not but feel deeply disheartened for the kids forced go to gov schools ,which are hardly functional, due to the lack of qualified teachers , Most of the teachers on the staff are not even professionally trained to take classes. The odds for a poor child to fulfill his or her potential is almost impossible to beat today and it is foisted by the broken system of education . People on the panel endorsing private education are representing vested interests . The anchors perspective to education reflects her elitist bias. Kudos to Mr anand for showing the way to the fake experts.

Education in China is a state-run system of public education run by the Ministry of Education. All citizens must attend school for at least nine years, known as the nine-year compulsory education, which the government funds. It includes six years of primary education, starting at age six or seven, and three years of junior secondary education (middle school) for ages 12 to 15. Education in India is business like running a mall or a shop.

Anchor was clearly biased towards Heritage school principal. She was so over-awed by her and almost obeisant. What has gone wrong with NDTV or this anchor, schools are minting money at the cost of lame average people of the country. This debate should not have happened, its such a simple thing to agree with and support, what AAP govt is doing in Delhi

I think education should be free with quality measure. This days we are talking about corruption is the big barrier in developing nation and individual. What is the root cause that quality education with cost. If we invest more why not expect to get return more. If not happen corruption start...
