I am really happy I found this channel. I watched almost all old videos, I feel like we could be friends in person, same values - family, V8 engines and weights :) I like the way you live , no shortcuts, no steroids, beeing in good shape the whole year. I finally get my self to the diet and you helped me a lot with that - I am a blacksmith and was eating around 4000 calories a day since I am a physical worker and need to have enough strenght to hit with a 5lb hammer whole day long. I am also training at the gym 3 times a week to use other muscles too - don't wan to look like a The Hunchback of Notre Dame with one big arm :) But after small modifications of my diet I am now loosing 1 pound a week and still have the same strenght so I think I finally found the point of balance , and you have a big influence in this. Thanks Buff Dudes !

How did you pick/select meals and sides to fit your macros ? Eat the same stuff regularly ?
@timwes8684 жыл бұрын
thebesttheworst I prioritized protein (I did and still follow 1g / lb of body weight) then fill my remaining calories with carbs and fats. KZbin helped me a lot with meal ideas and different variations to cook the same old chicken breast for example. I’ve used several of the Buff Dude’s recipes, Remington James Fitness helped as well. I ate lots of chicken breast, lean ground beef, tofu, whole foods like fruit and veggies, rice, peanut butter, olive oil, fat free cheeses and alternative frequently enough that I still enjoy eating these same foods 11 months later. My best advice is to find foods that you genuinely like and you won’t get tired of them, and consistency matters. I feel like I can eat this way for the rest of my life and the progress I’ve made has been inspiring enough to keep that up. Hope this helps, cheers!

There's obviously huge difference. Fats is not just fat, but saturated (bad) fats and good ones (unsaturated, like olive oil), huge difference. Carbs is not just carbs, there's good carbs like sweet potatoes and bad ones like white bread, processed and non-processed. Then there's sugar, which makes you obese and has no nutritional value. Alcohol, kinda same. At least protein is a protein (unless it's from greens, so it might not contain all aminoacids, and thus inferior to animal protein unless paired with right vegetables)
@shredd57054 жыл бұрын
I mean, the results are obvious without a video. The guy taking the junk food approach would gain way less muscle/lose more muscle/gain more fat into his belly + other sugar related problems, gaining fat, feeling of tiredness, dental caries etc.

Ive done both. If you don't care how you feel you can do either "As long as you keep sodium on the lower side" eating high sodium foods will make you retain water and look like shit. Would love to see your take on Stan Efferding's "Vertical Diet" that Brian Shaw and Hafthor Bjornson have been seeing a lot of success on. Keep up the great content!
@dillon77484 жыл бұрын
@bronchoped1 He was on it for 2 years and saw vast improvements. I copied this from someone else's comment: "These are my feelings. 1) There is a video of Brian and Juji "20,000 calories in one meal". During that Video Brian says he is feeling better on the vertical diet because of improved digestion. 2) Brian went on a cut and lost a significant amount of weight going into his competition 3) Strongest man competitions have changed from pure strength to more athletic events, eg many events incorporate speed. Brian is not a fast moving person. I personally feel Brian's training has not appropriately changed with the changes that have occurred in strong man events. He should be working on sprint speed. He is just too slow. I feel the reason for the change in the diet is mostly psychological. Sometimes people panic and make decisions based on emotions when they are not having success. That's what I feel has happened here." Also, I think Brian is getting up there (38 now) and this could contribute to his diminished performance. You can't stay the world''s strongest man forever.
@dillon77484 жыл бұрын
@bronchoped1 I don't disagree, and maybe it wasn't the optimal diet for Brian, but there are certainly many people who love the Vertical diet and have seen really good results. Also, my point was that there are a lot of factors that go into being a strongman competitor, no less the strongest man in the world and it's possible Brian is attributing some of his performance issues to diet, when there are confounding factors that could be the actual reason, but I guess we'll see how he progresses in the future based on his new plan. It's only been since September he changed his diet, so we'll see
@dillon77484 жыл бұрын
Also, I should mention that even if it wasn't the best for Brian, Thor is still on it and his competitive performance has improved since he's been on it.
@GreenbrierBushcraft4 жыл бұрын
@bronchoped1 To be honest Brian wasn't following the diet properly. He left out the horizontal base of the diet and overly focused on the vertical foods. The way he did it was missing a great deal of micronutrients, which are key for performance.

For most people IIFYM is the idea of staying lean, while eating alot of crap. It's like the lazy way, or the shortcut. Thing is, you can stay lean on junk food, but you can't stay healthy.
@chrolka62554 жыл бұрын
This has been my experience with IIFYM. Would eat chocolate bars for breakfast, then make up for it later in the day. When I was out for the whole day, I'd eat at McDonald's, cause that would be the only restaurant with counted macros and kcal. I've been looking great, 'cause I'm still providing the right amount of protein and working out, but I'm now trying to cut down on sugar and get my carbs from oats and rice instead. It's hard when you have an addictive personality and are actually rewarded for your destructive habits with good looks :/
@hottgamerman4 жыл бұрын
You chose the way you eat. With the IIFYM you should be eating healthy the majority of the time. But to satisfy your cravings when you do get them you can have them withen your macros. That's what this diet is intended for
@Ceen3284 жыл бұрын
@@hottgamerman Sure in an ideal version of IIFYM. I have lots of experience (licenced personal trainer and nutritionist from germany here) with people who want to slim down with an IIFYM / CICO approach and from what I have seen, in most cases a more regulated diet works better. At least for people with a limited knowledge of nutrition. If you know what you do, than a flexible diet is a good way. But, if they would know how nutrition works, than they wouldn't come to me for help. So my view is heavily shaped by my clients. As for myself, I love planing my meals (incl. cheat meals) for the whole weak. A more flexible diet is just not my cup of tea.

Well done guys and gals. These are really entertaining (and informative). I think the biggest thing of any successful "diet" is tracking. With far too many foods (especially processed foods) it's way to easy to overeat. Tracking really does help me keep overeating in check. I'm mostly doing KETO (probably with too much protein), but without tracking I really doubt I could do it.

You guys should try training a certain way for 30 days like training like a power lifter for 30 days

Thanks for the inside experience on this. I have to say that whenever I hear macros; I need to check my face for eye rolls. The last thing I want messing with my enjoyable food experience, is math. This method of eating sounds reasonably manageable. Thanks again.👍🏻

In the first place, maybe it should've been more of "If It Fits Your Calories". i mean hey, everything just boils down to caloric intake, maintenance, surplus, or deficit but at the same time we don't have to be so meticulous in counting calories (if it helps for you then that;s great, its more on preference)

Awesome video, keep making those 30 days diet videos.

This is kind of an odd experiment compared to the previous dieting experiments you've done, due to the lack of restrictions inherent with this style of eating. So it really will vary WILDLY depending on the person.

I'd love for yall to do a short video breaking down just what macros are. I could google it, but it'd be more meaningful coming from some actual Buff Dudes instead of some self proclaimed nutritionist.

Ask your primary care doctor about talking to a nutritionist. You can get a much more personal insight.
