I used to lift at a club and our coach was notorious for programming long, grueling blocks of 10s for backsquat. The motivation of lifting with a team of people who are all pushing through the pain together can't be underestimated.

Watching these guys show relative strength is. In my area my 285/205 lb clean n jerk/snatch is considered impressive and kind of unheard of, but with these guys I would be bottom of the food chain. Zack and Daire have to fight so hard to keep position when the weight gets heavy. Eoin is just up and down all of the force directed into barbell. Incredible how 2 human beings can be such different body types.
@christopherroberts2500
@christopherroberts2500 Жыл бұрын
It's no coincidence Zack and Daire both have incredibly strong backs and weaker quads - they're relying on posterior chain when their legs tire, whereas Gurph and Jangho are more equally balanced and can stay on their quads more. I'm the same way, never have to rely on my back to get the reps in, even for huge AMRAPs.
@AndiGraz

@AndiGraz also a factor, but that doesn't negate what I said. Plenty of wicked strong taller lifters and weak stocky chuds.
@AndiGraz
@AndiGraz Жыл бұрын
@@christopherroberts2500 yeah, sure, still it's a little unfair to call their quads weak. I mean zack is known as "the giraffe" online and Eoin as the fridge. This is basically the most uneven comparison wrt. squatting you could possibly make haha
@christopherroberts2500
@christopherroberts2500 Жыл бұрын
@AndiGraz Note how I said 'weaker,' as in relatively, and not absolutely weak. Back taking over in the squat is either a sign of poor mechanics or a stronger posterior chain relative to quad strength. The knees go back to assume a stronger position, then the grind using the posterior chain begins until either failure or lockout. You can see some egregious examples of this in powerlifting especially.

Eoin did a 5x5 with ~200kg and it seemed pretty hard, then he was supposed to 3x10 with 130kg (63.4%), so you would probably be fine picking a 5x5 weight that is fairly difficult and then using 65% of the 5x5 weight to do 3x10. e.g. 5x5x100lbs, 3x10x65lbs

I have done 20 reps on 100 kg but I truly can't go heavy. All things turn to shit formwise. I feel way stronger with my feet super narrow but that creates problems. Going even hipwidth my power just drops dramatically and my hips feels off at the bottom. Im 183 cm tall with pretty long legs which makes it hard to hit depth with my narrow stance sadly. Frustrating.

@@digitalvii it's the opposite usually. Back foot is the dominant foot while the front foot is the more stable/planting foot.
