If you bring up him stopping Squidward's needle attack, you gotta remember Squidward didn't put much strength into the launch of the pin because he didn't think he'd have to against a non-sentient being. Also another reason to consider, is that the dude didn't mind experiencing "high tide" so he didn't care if bubble buddy did anything either way xD

I love how Dying for Pie implies that people blowing up from pie bombs is not only rather common in Bikini Bottom but that Mr. Krabs was there every time. Also Squidward showing he cares deep down is always great to see.

The only thing I don't get is how Squidward pretends like he didn't know they were bombs. The pirates straight up said it was a bomb. And he's not naive like SpongeBob. So he should definitely have not been "tricked" into buying a bomb pie with all of the red flags.

After Plankton exited the restaurant, back to his own and his disguise exploded, SpongeBob said to himself “if that was Plankton…uh-oh.” That line indicates that SpongeBob was completely unaware that the Robo-Krabs was a fake. He even said that he thought the real Mr. Krabs was “a phony” at first. He also admits the fact that he is in fact naive in a following S2 episode. Further proof of SpongeBob not assessing the situation correctly.

Nah in "The Original Fry Cook" we learn Squidward is just too complacent and plays it way too safe. He has big dreams but he's not motivated enough to improve and go for them so he stays at the Kursty Krab where he always feels he'll have a safe stable job to return to. As oppose to the fear of trying out for his dreams and failing. He's scared to take chances where there's a big risk involved even if there's a bigger reward for succeeding. Jim took a shot on himself and succeeded but Squidward was not willing to take that shot.

The whole satisfaction of the award is that you feel satisfied because you achieved something. If it's not your award, you're just getting the satisfaction of having the physical object/prize.
