Lots of nerds in the military. As a self proclaimed nerd, do the math, are your chances better learning the ropes of how to shoot and be a soldier, or not trying and running away from the fight? Artillery in World War I did this thing called a "creeping barrage", they would fire their artillery in front of their advancing infantry and slowly move it forward till it hit your lines. Then when they assaulted, it landed on the opposite side of the opposing trench and then dialed back towards friendly lines to hopefully score a direct kill on the enemy trench Now would you run, or take cover and return fire?

The Senate of his reign was more or less a bunch of useless old men in eternal incontinence, the Empire was entering lawlessness, and Caligula, having spent the better part of a year sick of fevers and head pains (Julio-Claudians were afflicted with strokes, eye twitching, or in Claudius's case, palsy) that when he recovered he yelled at the Senate that his horse could do a better job. You think germans are impressive? Wait til you learn about the South African dog called "Just Nuisance", a great dane that was enlisted in the navy, was equal in rank to all his human peers, and was buried with military honours. And if that doesn't surprise you, look up "Jack the signalman" which was a baboon (also South African) who was capable of independently controlling train signals (yes, he required no supervision at all) meaning he was the one in charge of getting the trains onto the right tracks or else they wind up in the wrong place. He would also refuse to work without first getting his morning drinks and getting shit-faced. Oh, and he had a better track record than most human signalmen and made almost no mistakes ever despite being a perpetually drunk baboon with no idea what trains even really are.

Fun fact: A similar horse by the name of Kluge Hans ended up being the namesake for the Clever Hans effect, where a psychologist realized that the animals were just reading unconscious body language from the humans giving the questions.

Krall himself professed disbelief in the notion that Muhamed might be some sort of genius, arguing that human savants are also able to perform mathematical functions rapidly in their heads.

Was that not the same horse which were famous for doing math - but they later found out that it was just very observant of his owner and could not do it without line of sight to him.

So it was just a scam and the owner was giving him the answers to the math problems on the low? Still seems pretty smart to be able to run a hustle like that. He had to understand hand signs or whatever the owner was using to communicate the answers.
@molybdaen11
@molybdaen11 2 ай бұрын
@@Shin_Lona It was the first case where it was shown that animals can be observant and social enough to read the microenotions of humans and understand them. Like a slight change or breathing, blinking, slight movements of the eyes. The owner did not knew either and it took a long time before someone actually became skeptical and thought on testing the horse without the owner.

That's what animals do at the circus. Krall was aware of this and tried to teach his horses to do actual math even under scientific scrutiny. To my knowledge he was quite successful.
