point you forgot to mention. a) these germans had rations, who were close to starvation, while trying to storm his bunkers. b) the French, UK and USA command send colonial and afroamerican troops onto the front and hard sections, to prevent riots by large looses in their white units and to bleed germany dead in this war of attrition, while just loosing some useless colonial black people. c) his treatment in the army and after the war proves my point, that he and all other colonial troops fighting in europa were cannon fodder and he was just the propaganda-tool to make black Americans to sign for the army. The USA came late to the party, their supplies won the war, the US soldiers were not even close in performance to the veteran units, who fought already for years in these circumstances. It is even kinda embarassing how outdated some parts of the US-WW1 fought, while they had years to modernize their army, while observing the war. Even in WW2 the US army didnt meet expectations, while their supplies had in many areas actual superior performance. (Not their tanks)

The treatment of WW1 veterans was legendarily bad. Couldn't pay them for their service so paid them in Treasury Bonds. When the Great Depression happened and the veterans were starving, the government offered to pay a few pennies per dollar value for their bonds and they had to accept as they had no choice. When they protested and set up a camp outside the white house, the US called in the military and destroyed the camp with tanks. Even Civil War veterans were disrespected. Don't even look into Banana War veterans.

In this scenario, he declares the enemy of the Entente aka the Triple alliance (which includes the *German Empire,* whose men the soldier fought off during the raid) were apparently more respectful than the US (in reference to the struggle there was to grant him his medals), but he never said or proved existence of anything talking of Germans talking about the African American soldier (which means the first part of the enemy respecting and commending the AAS is false). Can't forget Needham was a G as well. Johnson told him to make a run for it to alert the rest of the unit while he fought alone. He did so, but Needham came back to help Johnson and wouldn't abandon him. That's when he got injured. After the war Needham couldn't find regular employment due to his injuries and could only do lecture tours. But, after breaking his silence on the treatment of black soldiers offers to have him speak dried up. He was accused of molesting a child (a likely false and racially motivated accusation) and he and his wife committed suicide together.

Harlem Hellfighters saw 191 days of consecutive combat and were the first Allied regiment to cross the Rhine into Germany. Henry Lincoln Johnson kicked so much ass and more. All this happened while Roberts was being dragged as a prisoner to German lines across No Man's Land. Johnson dragged Roberts back to their foxhole and the two were found the next morning amongst a blazing campfire and happily singing jazz songs. Johnson won the French Croix De Guerre and the US Distinguished Sevice Cross. He was nominated for the US MoH but I think was denied because he was black. Can't confirm.

Another worthy candidate for such a video topic is Eugene Bullard (1895-1961), a guy from my hometown who stowed away on a freighter to Scotland as a teenager to escape racial discrimination here in Georgia and volunteered to fight for the French during WWI. While recovering from a serious injury sustained in Verdun, he learned to fly and served as a combat pilot, being known among his French brothers-in-arms as “the Black Swallow”. After the war he was also a boxer and jazz drummer, owning a nightclub in Paris until its destruction during WWII. He was also a _Croix du Guerre_ recipient. While it would be nice for our government here to recognize Bullard, I doubt there is much we could do, since he never fought for the United States, only for France.

I guess this servers as a kind reminder no matter what you do for America or Americans they will never be grateful and will always treat you like a disposable peice of garbage. Dont die for this country they will never care. Life for yourself.

If grandpa's comments were anything to go buy, it's a hell of a thing to fight for the same country that'd spit on you if they had the chance, and still go do it.

He probably deserved the more like a bronze or silver star, but the Medal of Honor was awarded to him due to his race. By normal Medal of Honor standards, fighting off a force of 12 men, killing four, even while wounded, normally wouldn't warrant a Medal of Honor for a white soldier (more like a bronze or silver star). By contrast, Alvin York (initially awarded only the Distinguished Service Cross till upgraded) played a key role in a key battle, personally killing between 25-35 soldiers, destroying 35 machine gun nests, capturing 132 soldiers, and saving at least dozens of lives. Or, Audie Murphy, "ordered his men to retreat to positions in the woods, remaining alone at his post, shooting his M1 carbine and directing artillery fire via his field radio while the Germans aimed fire directly at his position. Murphy mounted the abandoned, burning tank destroyer and began firing its .50 caliber machine gun at the advancing Germans, killing a squad crawling through a ditch towards him.[83] For an hour, Murphy stood on the flaming tank destroyer returning German fire from foot soldiers and advancing tanks, killing or wounding 50 Germans (though officially credited with killing 240 soldiers during the war). He sustained a leg wound during his stand, and stopped only after he ran out of ammunition. Murphy rejoined his men, disregarding his own injury, and led them back to repel the Germans. He insisted on remaining with his men while his wounds were treated." He was still certainly heroic, though.
