Hey Mike, do you have an email address that I may send to? There are some things on my car ide like to send ya. You asked a while ago about my Convertible top and I've lost where you replied so I'm commenting here. My rear window reglue went well. I can send ya photos.

This video fails to address the most important question... how do they fit! I have Weather Tech in my truck and Maxliner in my car. The Maxliner fits much better. Its higher flexibility is definitely a key to its fit. Both are are designed with the same thickness, but the plastic formula used in the Weather Tech is a bit stiffer. Both are VERY good products, but after five years using the Weather Tech and two years using the Maxliner, the Maxliner wins.

I immediately stuck high quality rubber floor mats in my car after I shampooed the carpet to the point where the water was silver when I was done, not brown. Whenever I’m finished shampooing a vehicle carpet & making it at least 95% dirt free, I immediately stick rubber mats in once they are dry. Thanks to that, the carpeting in my 2006 Toyota Matrix looks brand new. Gotta preserve the older vehicles

I've had the Maxliners for a couple years now on my car. For the past 8 months, I've been taking my car to work (road construction) and have 3 other workers ride with me. I must say that I'm pretty impressed how they have held up to hot asphalt, gravel, dirt, mud and who knows what else. After a good cleaning, they are still looking almost new. They work great and are not overpriced. Now that I have a truck, I might stick to Maxliners due to my experience.

The last set of WeatherTechs I had were off gassing a very strong VOC smell for over 6 MONTHS. It was freaking horrible and I hated them. For my next two cars I went with "3D MAXpider" -- which has NO ODOR. Plus they look better and they usually do a better job at covering the dead-pedal as well, compared to WeatherTech.

@@SweetProjectCars Good to know. Kind of makes me wonder, because the Weathertech's I've had on my Excursion fell apart, while the ones I've had for the past 7+ years on my Pilot still look brand new. @quakerwildcat2 жыл бұрын
I've been shopping and looking at both. The difference in weight and flexibility are based on the materials used. Weathertech is rubber with a 3 year warranty. Maxliner is polyethylene (lighter weight and more flexible) with a lifetime warranty. Both are laser-cut to fit specific car models. I don't think you can go wrong with either but for my particular vehicle Maxliner is a lot less expensive, so looking at the comments below from happy buyers, I'm going that route.

@billydumont54924 жыл бұрын
I sell them all, weather tech, max liner, Husky liner and max3D... Weather tech are long lasting, but to rigid to remove them without water spouring on the floor, and they curl in because they protect to high. And they are expensive. Husky liners have 2 models x-act and weatherbeater. Weatherbeater is alot like weathertech little less height protection, while x-act are more rubberish, so the don’t curl in. Surprisingly they feel a litle more slippery with wet shoes. Almost same price as weather tech. Maxliners are cheaper, they dont curl in and do tue same job as weathertech. May be a little less durable on very long time, but in 5 years, I never had to replace any of them. Max3D are foamy mats, stays right in place, but hyundai floor hangers are too tight. They gice a nice mat look, not slippery but tend to wear faster near the gas pedal. They are all good products, with pros and cons... weathertech have the most cars covers... so sometime you juste don’t have the choice. I would personnaly go for maxliner or husky if possible

This would have been a better comparison if you compared products for the same vehicle. Comparing floor liners for a GMC truck against floor liners for a Cadillac makes it harder see which is better. My experience with WeatherTech has been mostly positive. But the two liners I bought for a Subaru trunk and an Acura RDX rear deck were fails. Both products curled badly at the edges and corners. I will not buy again unless WeatherTech addresses the problem. I went with Husky Liners for my latest car purchase and am very happy with the floor liners. Still looking at options for the rear deck.

Maybe a water retention test is required? Assuming both mats are for the same vehicle model, continue to pour the same amount of water into each to see which spills over the mat first. The raised ribs of the black one would displace water where the indented ribs of the tan one are allowed to retain more water. Also, are the raised ribs something you have to get accustomed to meaning does your heel catch and slide along the rib as you're trying to break and accelerate where the depressed ribs would not catch a heel and guide it?

you should start by comparing the exact model vehicle floor mats, that is going to to affect the coverage, retention devices, shape ( the actual shape and hiegth of the mat changes the structure and strength of the actual mat ) ,I dont see how the heat and sand will make the mats collapse, in fact max liner are thicker, they have a reinforce rib that prevents the wall from warping. Thanks for this review, Mike. I know that you are assessing these floor mats straight out of the box, but I'm wondering how they hold up over time in the weather, the heat/cold, and does the color fade over time too? Do the colors of the floor mats match exactly for the available interior colors for that specific vehicle or are the colors just somewhat close to matching the available interior colors for that specific vehicle?

@ELEVOPR3 жыл бұрын
Weird, I keep hearing that Weathertech Liners aren't what they used to be, Material wise and Lazer cut falls short on some cars. Example- on a 2005-2018 Nissan frontier the foot rest liner only come halfway up, which doesn't make sense, because now the front of your boot will drop dirt into your carpet because the footed is only half covered. They seem not to care because since 2005 it has had this issue and they refuse to fix such issues, which is an extremely simple fix, just add another 6"s to the bed liners driver's side foot area 🤦🏼♂️ Weathertech needs to step it up a few notches and now they have a lot of Lazer liner competitors and I think if your smart and do stick to brain embedded brand names, you can get better quality, better fitment, and save a lot of money going with other companies like Smartliner, Husky, etc. What do you guys Think 🤔?

I have had the weather techs in my silverado for the last 3 years. Really have not been a fan of them. They dont fit that well because the sides have been curled up on them since day one and have never flattened out. The dirt and grime that also gets down into the groves on the weather techs is a real pain to get out, even with a pressure washer and scrubbing with a stiff brush. The stiff plastic like feel of them I am not keen on, I prefer the more rubber type of feel to them. I have a friend that has the maxliners and I like them in his truck over the weather techs. For these reasons I actually purchased the Maxliners this morning for my truck. Just my opinion, in case anyone was looking for reviews on them!
@speedmaster0012 жыл бұрын
When I got mine for the first time, it was curled because it was shipped rolled. There’s an instruction to heat it up gently before installation to recover its form. I did this with a hair dryer in high setting and also lay it out on the sun face down. It recovered its shape and has stayed in place 5 years plus now and still counting. I just have to wash it down with water and apply Megguaires black trim once in a while. It still looks brand new.

I've had WeatherTechs in a number of vehicles. Never had an issue with them, myself, but someone on a forum mentioned getting Husky Liners for a few reasons, one of which was that WeatherTech liners can peel. I went to pick up a used set locally for my newly acquired Town and Country Limited, and sure enough, they were peeling at the raised edges. There were several spots where the top layer was coming away from the substrate. I thought the WeatherTechs were a solid piece and not a laminated a laminated product, but apparently they aren't a solid piece. Unfortunately, due to the Super Console in my van, my options are limited.

I stumbled across Maxliner, read the reviews and did my research. I ended up going with maxliner due to the high rating, quality was questionable til I received them. Once I got them they fit just like a glove, the quality of material I give an 8. The material isn’t as thick as weather tech but you can tell they tried and did a decent job. Also cost wise for all the mats with maxliner was about $270 compared to weather tech at about $475. I don’t mind the $200 savings to put towards my kids best interest and not break the bank but still receive a good product. Maxliner gets 2 👍🏽👍🏽..

Here is something not even touched on, is what type of plastics are used in each product? Are they virgin plastics or recycled? This is important. Plastics have memory. Once virgin platics are extruded and formed, they retain that structure. If they are ground up and re- extruded (recycled) it only takes a little bit of stress for recycled plastics to warp. I know it sounds responsible to want recycled materials, but not in anything plastic that you want to hold it's shape. Also, heat is not going to do anything but help any virgin plastic conform to the shape it was originally molded to be in, i.e., the intended shape of your vehicle floor, in this case. If it was made and formed to fit your floor, heat will only assist the liner to relax into it's intended shape. Recycled plastics, though, all bets are off. If both are sourced from recycled plastics, just buy the one that is cheaper.

I mostly like the mats that have the hexagon pattern, except that they don't have a raised edge to retain dirt and water. The hex pattern seems to mostly prevent side spillage. If they did have a raised edge, they'd be perfect for me.

I have weather tech tan floor liners for a Nissan murano for sale. They were in a 2009 for a few years than I sold the car. Still in great condition.

I like WeatherTech for the most part, but the only thing I don't like is that with time, the rubber separates from the edges. I think this is caused because they are too rigid. I think a little more flexible rubber would have better coverage.

The best floor mats I've encountered so far are the OEM Volvo hard plastic 'snow mats' which are more or less the Swedish equivalent of the Weather-Tech mats. I have a dealer-fitted set in my 1990 740 (bought by me in 2003) and they've done a great job of protecting the carpets and floorpans from water and dirt over the past 29 years :)

Have you ever done a video on replacing a worn carpet in an older car?
@SweetProjectCars6 жыл бұрын
Mike Morales no we have not because every car is so different so it would be hard to show them from a 2009 BMW 7 series to a 2000 corvette..

I've had both of these you featured. I recently purchased the 3d maxpider by kagu, which I like the best of the 3. I don't know why they even carpet cars anymore, we all just try to cover up the carpet because it gets so dirty.

I do not like the weather tech floor liners at all. They slide and the sides curl up. They are awful. Weather techs solution was to use velcro to keep in place. I'm going with husky liners on my next vehicle. We have the weather techs in my Tacoma and my wife's Rav4. I like that they are American and not terribly far from me. We bought at their factory store in Bolingbrook, Illinois. My boss had them in his suv and he hated them as well. He threw them in the dumpster. For the price we paid I was expecting superior quality. Unfortunately, I was wrong.

@@SweetProjectCars All weather mats are my choice. I have used Scottgaurd after steam cleaning every spring for my boat carpet. I have never replaced any carpet on any of the boats that lasted over 17 years. What is good steam cleaner. My Bissell steamer is 1986 model ..LOL

Sweeeeet review SPC!! Weather Tech is my choice hands down. No one has ever presented anything near their quality and fit. I've been using them since they entered the market, and have sold many many sets of floor mats and liners. Great review Mike!

I've got WeatherTechand they're great for the front but the back seat one kinda sucks. It covers the floor fine (it's one piece across) but the sides aren't stiff enough and folds in on itself.

Very fair review. I love my truck and all but I can't bring myself to spend the extremely high price Weather Tech is asking for these floor mats. I found some really good thick Husky Brand mats on Amazon for almost half what WT gets for theirs. If I worked in the mud a lot the WT mats would be worth it in the long run though.

We did our comparison shopping and ended up with 2 sets of WeatherTech liners. Chrysler Town and Country - fits great. Bought mostly because passenger side carpet is peeling back (from behind the right kick panel and it's too costly to do a proper fix!) Mercury Mariner - front drivers side fits great but not the passenger side - seems to be too short. Perhaps we should drive up the Bolingbrook and have her car re-scanned for passengers front fitment. Other than that we love 'em! Yes, they are a bit on the pricey side, but you get what you pay for! Mike, we got nearly 8 inches of snow this past weekend with more on the way. The floor liners help keep the interior carpet dry and cleaner! Sounds like a fair trade? Makes me wonder how old her batteries (in the car) are as to whether I'd do a trade... (LOL LOL LOL)

In my experience Weathertech sucks in the cold. Their too stiff and start sliding around when the temp gets below freezing.
@deeohgi4 жыл бұрын
We havent had any issues with them sliding around in 3 chevy trucks, a Hyundai Santa fe sport, Elantra, and an older Accord within our family. Also, with our cold northern climate (as in daytime highs of sometimes as little as -15°F), theyve held up fine. Of course the heaters are running full blast during the coldest time of winter here.

Thanks for the review video. But you do realize that Prius's have oil filters right? There's an all electric Prius I think, but most have an engine, and aren't plug in/all electric. That's why they brag about the 50, or so miles to the gallon they get.
