I was DJing NYE at a big packed venue, before the ball drop and time synchronized song I had to play - a girl came up and went “Woo!” and dumped a balloon of sand inside my laptop and mixer 💀 underneath all the keys, the jog wheels, the trackpad. The left channel wasn’t able to be turned without scraping and stopping the song, clicking only worked on part of the trackpad. Suddenly your responsibility becomes super top of mind that usually can be made unconscious, hundreds of people, the highest paying night of the year, sponsors, etc. I used the laptop to mix the left deck and blew the sand out of the mixer as much as I could, certain keys couldn’t be typed so I had to hunt for songs by scrolling rather than searching. It was very stressful but I got through the night without all the features of my performance. Grimes handled this very, very poorly. I’ve had my entire DJ table collapse multiple times and my equipment scrape across the floor, multiple power outages with booing crowds, fights broke out and my equipment got knocked, a group broke my gear then said I broke it and threatened me until I left. Shit gets wild and you just gotta have nuts, nobody cares how long you planned your set for - you make your bed and lie in it. But whatever man, looked like a nightmare to experience - she’ll be clowned for life for that.

What happened to her is when you use SYNC and your master tune is for example 174 and you load an 87bpm tune on the next deck the sync will double tempo that ish to 174. To fix this issue you just deactivate sync, slide pitch slider up and down all the way, put it center and BOOM. Your problem is solved. Has nothing to do with Rekord Box or anything. It is more about ignoring to learn the equipment properly. This exact thing happened to me during a set because the previous DJ was running sync and I didn't check. Suddenly my DNB tune became Halfstep, I rewinded that shit, Crowd cheered, Deactivated Sync, reset my meters and went on the Steamroller rest of the night without issues.

I know what happened. When you put your track into the USB the BPM's are generally spot on, but what she did.. was she was struggling to match them so she hit the sync button. The tracks she had put the tempo as double time. If she had not hit the sync button they would've remained on time but yeah, seemed like she was pretty tipsy and was struggling to beat match and hit the sync button... not realizing it would double the track that was playing as well. You can't then hit the sync button to release it as the track is still labeled in double time

For some reason the track is sped up to 280 bpm rather than slowed down to 140 bpm. It takes like an afternoon to learn how to mix house tracks on cdjs. If you're using sync it takes no time at all. This is an impossible fuck up. It is actually quite impressive.

Not many people seem to understand what is actually going on when loading drum and bass, bass music or similar genres on Recordbox... some tracks load with tempo showing as lets say 87 bpm and some others load as 175 bpm. If you want to beat match them, you need to adjust second track to 174 bpm (87 x 2 = 174). Or vice versa, if first track that you are playing is 175 bpm, second one needs to be adjusted to 87.5 bpm. Its very simple math (: But probably not when you are sky high and never really used CJDS in your life, apart of that one time when everything was going smooth (:

For some reason, you want to do it all by yourself live. Rekordbox's tempo analyzation and beat grid mapping are not optimal. You often have to make manual corrections. I guess the tempo of her tracks are not just being set at 2x but at completely wrong number, especially when the tempo analyzing range is not set properly. Apparently she thinks DJing is so easy and never learned to do it properly until reality kicks in.

normally you check if the bpm of your track is correctly detected before the set if you have problems with that during set you're a rookie. Still you can correct t during set just set it to original tempo you should kno the bpm of your tracks and just match bpm u hand or do a cut transition
