Good for Pogacar. There are no gifts in the TDF and last year's race is still fresh in his mind.
@Chiller113 ай бұрын
This is the best TDF analysis on any media platform in my opinion. Johan brings a sophisticated international perspective that the US and even the UK analysts don’t bring. This year’s tour is almost a mirror image of last year with Jonas coming to the tour with reduced training schedule due to injury and a weaker team. Visma was ruthless in breaking Tadej down and he had to work through his own disaster on the Col de la Loze. Jonas wasn’t giving any gifts last year. My hope is that all 4 of the top guys come to next years Tour injury free and with full team support. That would be an epic tour.

17:36 Pogacar is one of two people to win five mountain stages in one Grand Tour. The other cyclist, Gino Bartali, is vastly underrated. Bartali was leading the TDF in 1937 and had to withdraw after a terrible accident, that caused him to fall 10 feet off a bridge. Bartali won one TDF in 1938 (at 24), and won his second in 1948 (at 34) -- a ten year difference. But one must consider the fact that the TDF was suspended during World War II -- so Bartali did not get to race the TDF during, arguably, his prime racing years (25-31 ish yrs of age). But what he did during those years may very well surpass anything he did competing in cycling, saving many Jews from going to concentration camps in Nazi occupied Italy: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iovNhnuVd7x9fLM

I was actually surprised that Remco didn't have a stage where he dropped a bunch of time, so brava grande cajones! Wout had selective legs, lol. It was a perfect storm for Tadej to have so many wins. For example, a climb late in a race might could be rated higher due to its late position. It's more grueling. Maybe a Category 1 race could be elevated to an HC if it's placed late in a race?

Question for Johan. As the most successful Belgian DS ever what advice would he give to Remco now? Remco now has found his benchmark AND he now knows where THE (Pogi) ultimate benchmark is. He clearly wants to win the league tour in the next five years and it’s clear what the biggest obstacle is. Does he go to Red Bull with the budget? Can he optimise his performance for another 0.3 watts per kilo? How should he handle the vicious Pog attacks? Conversely this year we saw Pogacar change coach and he is better regardless of misfortune to his three biggest competitors. His TT position is good but his head could get 2 inches lower (marginal yes) but Remco beat him by 12.3 seconds in TT one. Ultimately Pogacar is bigger and can push more total watts than Remco (he also pulled in a Remco attack on stage 9) so Remco’s landing strip for victory like Jonas is narrow. Does Johan think ASO’s route selection May ultimately affect le tour? Ie long TT re introduced. Finally, we now see at his best Jonas is five minutes back and fighting looking at Remco. Is the era 25-27 Pogi vs Remco with Jonas as a third musketeer?

Johan was not like this during the Vuelta with Jonas though. He wanted Jonas to gift Kuss the whole GT which he did in the end, I feel the double standard is strong here Johan is definately a Pogi and Remco fan over Jonas. He talked everyday during Vuelta23 about Jonas shouldnt take it from kuss and it was simply not fair etc, who got the jersey early due to an easy breakaway that wasnt contested in the early stages. And Remco bonked early in the race so there was no competition for Visma. Jonas was as dominant in that race as pogi was in this tdf. He was able to drop everyone at his liking. Except for the first 10 days where he just followed as he was sick. Imagine this was pogacar, he would have never dreamt of gifting a GT win to a teammate if he was clearly stronger.Johan wanted both Roglic and Jonas to not race and play their chance. Jonas in the end simply gave away his double to Kuss. While kuss was the third or 4rth strongest rider in that Vuelta. Last year when Jonas attacked there is a vast difference. Pogi sat on the wheel and attacked Jonas in the end in nearly all the stages last year. Pogi even though loosing the tour won all the stages they dueled in. The days Jonas won on there was breakaways taking the win beforehand. Now is it ok for pogi to take this win today, Yes!, but is it classy? NO! it just isnt. Would Jonas have done the same in his position with 4 wins on stages and secured yellow, NO. But they are different pogi is for viewers an entertainer, jonas is a hard worker with sportsmanship but also a quite guy.

Coming to the last stage, question related to future and two American riders in particular (and about team Visma): To me Visma(Jumbo Visma) appeared to have very poor interpersonal environment, bordering on poisonous, my impression for 3-4 years and culminating in the last year's Vuelta. Would it be advisable for Kuss and Jorgenson to switch teams for their future (impacting future of American cycling)? I know that technical qualities in Visma are excellent BUT, I worry about their spirits being squashed. Any opinion? As to Citroen 2CV, important clarification: French car taxation system used "horsepower" designations not true to the actual car power. 2CV was just the lowest taxation bracket for lowest horsepower but not actually just 2hp, not that those cars had much more but one or couple of dozens hp depending on the year of release.
