Yes, I do take breaks! I have them done for half a year and then do them myself with a standard nail polish for another half a year. I've done this for years now and totally recommend. And apparently, for the break to make sense, you would need to regrow the nails totally otherwise they would not get better anyway. Clean nails are also chic!

Yeees I take breaks! Sometimes I take 3 sets and then skip 2-3 sets. For me it’t easier to take breaks during the examperiode, because I’m a medical student. But for sure I find it important to take some breaks, whatever works for you🥰🥰

I don't take breaks for my nails but I think the most important is having the gel removed with acetone and not with the drill - it's much more gentle!

Love the vid as always :) as for the nail Q. I do my own gel nails at home, and I think the same protocol that I follow is used at many salons. I always have a layer of clear builder gel under my polish. When it’s time for a new mani I use my efile to file off the coloured polish and only thin the builder a bit. Leaving a small amount of builder underneath protects my natural nails as I am not damaging them by thinning them by filing. Per my research there is no need for a complete removal every time. I have paint on builder so once I file everything down to my thin layer of builder I paint on more to thicken things back up, then I go on my merry way with my polish, rinse and repeat. This allows me to keep my nails fairly long without needing any kind of extensions. But you could do the same thing on shorties. I suppose it all depends on what your nail tech likes to do, but I hope this helps :)

Yes. About twice a year I take a break from my nail routine (hard gel, acrylic, or gel x extensions). And I let them fully grow out and I apply strengthener multiple times a day for two months.

The Essie gel polish is great. The one in the square twisty bottles. It's a regular polish, doesn't need a lamp, but has a gel like finish. It lasts really well and really, helps strengthen your nails. I used it when i was growing out my hard gel damage and it really helped give me nails some colour and a layer of protection. Make sure to get the topcoat

Allana, not sure if you’re taking multivitamins (I’m sure you are) or collagen but I too was suffering from brittle nails to where I stopped polishing my nails. Then I started taking multivitamins and adding collagen powder to my morning matcha and wholly-moly, my nails are now so long and thick unbelievable. You’re just the best cat mom and Meryl is so lucky to have you ❤❤❤

I got gel twice(in my whole life) last year in a 2 week span. It took me 5 months to recover. Nothing beats in mho kiss impress. Small size. You keep them for 7 days at least. You can paint over them. After 2-3 my nails were in the best condition ever. Set has 28 pcs. Half of them will suit you, the rest i usually give to someone with smaller nail beds. Tooootally worth it. Have a go!

i do gel nails too and usually i get a structure/builder gel on top first before the gel nails so when i get it removed for a new set i noticed my nail tech doesn't drill all the way down, so she usually leaves a bit of the builder gel on my nails, that way it protects my nail bed! hope this helps! xx

I use kefir as a base for my protein smoothies, it hides the taste of you dont like it (even tho I do like the taste😂). I also use it as a base for overnight protein oats, or as a bowl like you made. Just add more berries, scrambled (protein) oats, granola, unsweetened apple sauce or similar to amp it up 👌🔥

You need to get the Green Manucurist LED polish set! It’s a gel polish and lasts about 2 weeks but it is less thick and less hard than gel and can be removed with normal nail polish remover. It is game changing! Had the same sore nails as you when I was doing gel manicure!

Your tennis volleys look really good! Maxine’s breakfast looked amazing. I used to do gel nails when I worked in an office and I would take breaks very often. However, I do have very strong nails and I’m not eating anything special to make them that way so I’m lucky. MERYL is so cute in that baby wrap!!!!❤

As someone who loooves waring nail polish, but never done gels, because I know what it does to the natural nail, I can say: give your nails a break, for sure. I wear nail polish weekly: apply it for the weekend and take it off as soon as it starts chipping. Every other week, after taking the colour off, I apply nail strengthening treatments: whether it's nail envy, or other brands' treatments, it really doesn't matter. Hope that helps ☺ And your own nails look beautiful! Just give them some tlc and time, they'll get stronger again, I'm sure!😊

I have had the same issues with gels and stopped getting it done years ago. Try Dazzle Dry polish. It’s regular polish that dries fast and can last up to two weeks😁

Honey I got a trick for your bun to look a lot more pull together, because I also sweat a lot and I can’t be washing my hair every day I learned how to make it look more intentional. So, you’re basically going to try to not overlap the hair because when you do it becomes a cone, not a “donut”. So pull the hair back, twist about 2/4 of the way and wrap it around your finger flat to the head. It will be a donut, now, the rest of the hair you don’t twist, just wrap around the “donut” and tuck it in. Then you put your hair tie around the base and no one will see it either. Try it out 🥰

I also have very brittle nails, and I just get acrylic overlay on my natural nails. Every 3-4 weeks I get a fill, but she never has to file down or take the acrylic all the way off. It's been amazing

Alana I am also doing the nail grow out misery. I’ve had acrylics for many years & in recent years gel. It really just destroys your nails if not done properly. I’ve always been told to find a tech who mostly hand files. Not everything obviously but hand filing is much better. Then you don’t get the rings of fire on your nails. & grow them out. That helps. Then you have a healthy slate to start with & a tech that will be able to not cause the damage.

GIRL. Find a salon that uses IBX strengthen and repair as well as IBX boost. I had your exact issue with thin/brittle nails and hard gel. I had all the gel removed and what was left was really painful. For the last 3 months, every two weeks I’ve been getting the IBX S&R plus 3 thin coats of boost, then three coats of regular gel polish. My nails are back to normal and much stronger than before. 💅😊

I thought the same about my nails, very weak and would split a lot. Then I took a break from any type of polish etc, now my nails are long and strong. Anytime I've tried polish, they immediately go back to weak until they grow out. I've just had to embrace the natural nail life, but prefer good nails over colour!

Natural nail club member, yah girl! I used to wear nail polish occasionally, but now I have bare nails 95% of the time. I feel the most me that way and my nails feel strong! I do paint my toenails sometimes, and I find that nail polish damages them after it stays on for a while. And the time/effort it takes to remove the polish is not worth it to me. I’m lazy when it comes to the the upkeep 😅 bare nails = much less maintenance and is healthier for my nails overall

I think they put acrylic on your nails which is very damaging. I only use CND shellac it is the best! If they don’t have it I bring it myself. You can also remove it yourself very easily. Sometimes I do a one week break and I put the CND rescue daily keratin treatment every day multiple times and they get stronger immediately!

Lifelong kefir drinker here (as a balkan myself), i drink it on an empty stomach like 100 ml. Works wonders, you don’t have to endure it for a long duration since you just drink and you’re done. Pls try ❤

I do hard gels on myself and haven’t had any issue, but when I go to the nail salon for hard gel I end up eventually with thin nails! I’m able to be super gentle while still getting my gel sets to last 4+ weeks. My nails are grown out and not the cutest at 4 weeks… but they last and don’t ever chip!

nail tech here ☺️ find a new nail person if they have been over-filing your nail surface!! it’s not okay when your nails physically hurt or look damaged from your gel! as for “nail breaks,” they aren’t needed if your tech does her job well because despite what everyone says, nails don’t breathe! no oxygen exchange happens in that hard surface! keeping the nail surface and fleshy area behind your cuticles healthy is key to beautiful nails!

You need to try BIAB (builder in a bottle) for your nails! It’s a hard gel but has nutrients (?) in it so it actually strengthens your nails while looking pretty
