Here’s how I talk to myself to get myself motivated. By request, here are the questions:
Engaging and Evoking
Coach: Listen with the goal of understanding. Give no advice. Ask-
1. Why might you want to_________? (Listen) What else?
2. How important is it for you to make this change?
3. What are the 3 most important benefits for you to__________?
4. If you decided to____________, how would you do it?
(Give a short summary/reflection of the speaker’s motivation for change, then ask:)
5. So what do you think you’ll do? or Where does this leave you?

You have THE MOST BEAUTIFUL complexion, Heather and fabulous teeth and the loveliest smile. I learned the word “compliant” from you on your former videos and it has helped me enormously at keeping on track. Thank you for your continued support. It’s an awful feeling to feel disappointed in oneself, I’ve been there before myself. Be kind to yourself and speak kindly to yourself. You are amazing!

I didn’t know the motivational interviewing method. So interesting: “Motivational interviewing is a counseling method that helps people resolve ambivalent feelings and insecurities to find the internal motivation they need to change their behavior. It is a practical, empathetic, and short-term process that takes into consideration how difficult it is to make life changes. (...)”

We use motivational in interviewing at my work. I work at an alcohol/drug residential rehab center. It is a very good tool.

Thanks for checking in Heather. You give me inspiration with my weight loss journey. I had gastric sleeve surgery about 3 years ago now, went from 256 lbs to 190. I couldn't get any lower. Now I'm creeping back up, to 221 lbs. The struggle is real!

I needed to hear this today! I struggled to lose weight and today I’m back up 4 pounds. So frustrated with myself. But your talk calmed me down. I’m chopping broccoli for breakfast right now!

Hi Heather, I found "The Work" of Byron Katie to be extremely helpful working with my stressful thoughts. It has been extremely helpful with addictive thinking. I started by reading her book "loving what is". That was many years ago and I still use the work to this day to help me with my underlying stressful thoughts. It's pretty much automatic for me now. Just thought i would share since it changed my life and relationships in so many wonderful ways.

Trying to avoid a future of frailty is too far away for my "immediate gratification" mind 😒 when i crave junk i remind myself of the CEOs getting rich off cheap additives that keep us addicted and unwell. I don't want to contribute to their bank accounts xo

You had back surgery to correct Spinal Stenosis, right? Do you feel it has helped or alleviated it ?

It definitely has! I am starting to get feeling back in my feet and my hip pain, which I didn't even realize was related but was really debilitating, is now completely gone. And this is only 2 months post surgery. I should continue to improve for 6 months to 1 year.

Well I took off 300 lbs by not eating SOFAs, so I am pretty sure it works for me. One tiny slip does not mean I abandon what I believe in; it means I work harder. People slip all the time, no matter what plan they are following. I am just honest about it.

Hi Sherri, it works for many other populations across the globe, people like Heather prove it works by their success with weight loss. Do you have another way of eating that improves health by any other metric besides the scale? I am mortified of diabetes, heart disease, cancer, cognitive decline, etc. If you know another "diet" to mitigate my risks please tell me (my family history is a train wreck)
