Like this but Tom are you saying if you keep 80% of weight forward means you will not do the dreaded over the top thing?
@williamford4371Ай бұрын
I just completed a year on Tom's online academy and I can honestly say, I'm playing the best golf of my life! I'm almost 70 and am shooting in the high 70's low 80's using Tom's method (5500 yd course). I will admit I had been struggling a bit with the driver, averaging 210-220 with some dispersion issues. The revelation was straightening the right leg on the backswing. This allowed me to turn more while staying on my left side with about 80% on my weight on the left. I found that from there, I could really go after the ball. The result was an increase in distance (230-240) but more importantly, my accuracy improved considerably. Thanks Tom!

Hey Tom I watched this last Thursday and realised I hadn’t been getting my weight forward correctly, I was bending towards the target from the waist and not pushing my lead hip toward the target. I went to the range before the round last Friday and was amazed at the improvement in the strike. I’m currently a 12 HC and after 15mins on the range I played a round and carded a 75 with 8 Pars, a birdie, 1 treble 😢 and my 1st hole in one in 24yrs on a 115 yd uphill Par3 !!! Reminds me a bit of Moe Norman’s technique, without the exaggerated “arms way out in front” position. From what I’ve read and watched, he emphasized the set up in the ball striking position, then swing from there, weight forward. Great video!
@SagutoGolfАй бұрын
Thanks - I'm glad you enjoyed it!! While the swing system I teach shares a one plane feature, it is definitely different from the "single plane" version patterned after Mr. Norman's swing. For example, as you referenced the straight-line relationship of the arms and club shaft from the DTL view is a trademark of Mr. Norman's setup that one will not find in this system. However, there are also some definite shared features - particularly with regard to the very centered, connected, weight-forward nature of both methods. What I teach is a complete golf swing system based on data from the best golf ball strikers - and Moe Norman would certainly be included among them. The S&T folks determined from this study of these ball striking legends that they all had 3 things in common (the 3 main golf fundamentals): 1. Hit the ground in the same spot every time (consistent crispy contact) 2. Have enough length to play the golf course well (power) 3. Be able to have a predictable curve (accuracy). A player MUST be able to do those 3 things to be good at golf, and Mr. Norman certainly did! Tom Saguto, PGA PS: Would you like to learn some key aspects of the body-friendly, powerful, low-maintenance swing system I teach in a more structured manner? If so, then here is a link to my newly updated FREE mini course “The Top 3 Keys You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ Featuring 17 videos and 45 minutes of detailed lesson and drill content, this is a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the formal instruction method that has countless thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - now enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews

Tom's method works wonders, I had rarely hit the ball in the sweet spot before Tom! At first when I learned this weight forward technique through his awesome Online Golf School, I wasn't getting divots in front of the ball but getting far better ball contact. Then I realized I was still unknowingly shifting my weight a bit back to my trail side still causing a slight reverse pivot and a bit of flipping at impact, it is insidious! Once I realized that, I was able to fix it using his simple, easy to follow exercises from his Online Golf School and within one session, I was able to keep my head in place while keep my weight moving forward, focusing on keeping my trail shoulder moving through to the target, voila, divots and solid contact galore!! And I no longer have back pain! Thank YOU Tom!!

Hi Tom, I think your method can help so many golfers out there. Now, I don't think it's necessary to say that weight shift is an absolute waste of effort. It has its place and function. The problem is that the vast majority of golfers out there won't ever be able to benefit from it and will rather harm themselves by trying. Taking that variable out undoubtedly simplifies the golf swing, providing a path of much less resistance to consistent ball striking to recreational golfers. That's where your concept is extremely valuable. The fact that a successful long drive professional does what you advocate validates your approach. What it doesn't validate is that tour players who do are wasting effort shifting weight. There are various ways to become proficient at golf. I believe yours is the best way for most golfers.
@SagutoGolfАй бұрын
I appreciate your comment. In reference to McIlroy, his re-centering motion places more weight on his front leg at top of backswing. Contrast this with the long driver who takes a simpler approach by removing the re-centering action completely. It's more efficient and easier to repeat. It's not that McIlroy is "wrong" or "flawed". It's that McIlroy doesn't have to do that move. He could avoid re-centering entirely. If you're going to get 70% of your weight forward at the top, why not start there and keep it there? The notion of a _“weight”_ shift in the golf swing has led many an amateur golfer into the vast abyss of chronic inconsistency and frustration. In fact, here is Jack Nicklaus on weight shift: "I don't believe in a lateral shift," says Nicklaus. "Of course not. I believe in staying on the ball." Asked what he thinks about teachers who advocate a weight shift, he answers, "They don't know how to play." Now, as mentioned in the video there is certainly an allowance for a transfer of _“pressure”_ into the trail side. After all, we are moving the mass of the arms and club back and around us during the takeaway and backswing. Some like to sense the dynamic pressure shifts; others prefer the feel of a gradual increasing of weight load into the lead leg from the start. However, in either scenario the key here is that we do not allow our mass - and thus our swing center and low point - to drift back at any point. And the result is a centered, low-maintenance, body-friendly, consistent, and tremendously powerful motion. While there are certainly plenty of other videos on my channel that address this topic, a more structured option would be my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Keys You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ Featuring 17 videos and 45 minutes of detailed lesson and drill content, this is a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the formal learning method that has countless thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - now enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews Thanks, Tom Saguto, PGA

I was just going to put a comment because I have been working with a very good Stack and Tilt teacher in Los Angeles but my simple question is I started to develop a little pain in my knee and lower back, which is not to say that was caused by Stack and Tilt however, my question is I love the motion. Do you think it presents problems if a 61 year-old tries to use the system? I just got off the range and I was hitting the ball with a nice little draw and I had gone to other approaches because I didn’t want to injure myself but my thinking is I was putting way too much weight on my left knee. I don’t have to put as much and then when I drive my legs to the target, is that going to cause strain on the lower back or is that my misunderstanding of the motion system?

Can confirm. I watched one of your video's late last year regarding weight forward, and this year I have shot the best scores I ever have, and consistently. Easily shaved 7-9 strokes off my 9 hole league rounds. Shooting a few shots over par for the entire year (with the occasional meltdown... cant escape those).

However, in either scenario the key here is that we do not allow our mass - and thus our swing center and low point - to drift back at any point. In the swing I teach we start with our weight forward (generally 55/45 for the short and mid irons, 60/40 for the longer clubs), gradually add more forward weight load into the transition (70/30), 80/20 halfway down, 90/10 impact, and 95/5 finish. There's no "weight shift"; instead, it's just a gradually increasing load onto the lead side. And the result is a centered, low-maintenance, body-friendly, consistent, and tremendously powerful motion. Thanks, Tom

Do you have any videos on timing the release of the club through impact? I have had problems, picking the ball, not compressing the ball
@SagutoGolfАй бұрын
With regard to this erroneous notion that we need to affect some type of active hand-rolling “release", Kenneth, given the inability of most folks to spend sufficient time at the range to lock in the required exactness of such an action this misguided thought has led countless golfers astray. It's not something that even the vast majority of pros are trying to consciously manufacture during the split second that the clubhead is traveling a distance of approximately 6' from parallel to parallel at speeds in excess of 100 mph. The forearms will naturally "trade places" from pre- to post-impact, but this should not be construed as a contrived move (although many a casual observer has gone down that rabbit hole). There really ought not be any active manipulation of the hands through the zone and attempts to precisely time any such rolling or flipping - which does nothing for swing speed - have relegated many an amateur to the vast abyss of inconsistency and frustration. Ideally, we should simply "allow" the hand and wrist actions to happen without forcing anything. In other words, if we have a secure grip, pre-establish the connections properly in the setup, and have a foundational base that facilitates a full centered turn without restriction, then once we've ingrained the correct positions through sequential drilling and repetition we can entrust the motion to the big muscles and allow the wrists, hands, and club to simply go along for the ride and respond accordingly as if on autopilot. The power accumulators - including the proper wrist and hand action - will then naturally load and fire with no contrived manipulations or precise timing necessary, thereby returning the face to the position pre-established at address. We are minimizing variables and building a ball striking machine, and the golfer will find that as trust builds in the shoulders will rotate freely and the "machine" will then be optimized. It's called "giving up control to gain control", and it's the formula for consistently blissful ball striking and seemingly effortless power. And while I certainly have other videos that address this topic, a more structured option would be my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Keys You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ Featuring 17 videos and 45 minutes of detailed lesson and drill content, this is a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the formal learning method that has countless thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - now enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews Tom Saguto, PGA

Patience, Bubb, patience. Using the stack and tilt our momentum comes from the inside. Conjoined with a slight closed club face, this produces a draw. So the question is, how do we produce a fade? open face - open front swing or ???????? Thank You
@SagutoGolfАй бұрын
Hi Alain, To be clear, to hit our stock push-draw the face is open to the target line and closed to the in-to-out downswing path. That is how ball flight laws work: Clubface angle relative to target line is the primary influencer of the ball's starting line and face relative to path determines direction and degree of curvature. One of the many great things about the Stack and Tilt system is that we can move it left or right and flight it high or low with the same swing and just some simple setup adjustments. As an example, here is a shot shaping demonstration featuring a fellow teaching pro when we were attending S&T Instructor Camp together in Miami: kzbin.info/www/bejne/f5TQfKucgd9se68. Beyond this, I have advanced level content on shot shaping and controlling ball flight in the online school. I'm glad to learn of your improvement, Peter!! Consider the following possibilities: 1) Yes - perhaps your ball position is too far forward, 2) Hands are too far back at address (they should be in line with the inside of your lead thigh), 3) The swing center and low point are drifting backwards at some point during the motion (face-on video will help you determine this), 4) The downswing is steep and/or the path is out-to-in, 5) Conversely, the path is too shallow, 6) Early extension of the trail arm during the downswing (also known as "casting"), 7) Flipping/scooping through the zone, 8) Loss of relationship with the ball (shoulder angle flattening, loss of tilt). Though not an exhaustive list, those are the primary causes of fats, thins, and tops. By the way, always begin with the setup - in this case the first two possibilities - prior to diving into a swing intervention. is this set up compatible with a sore right knee or after a surgery of the right knee meniscus? other point, I feel difficult to use the right hip as the engine of the downswing when the weight is on left foot
@SagutoGolfАй бұрын
Hi Guy, The swing system I teach is a proven and validated body-friendly method. In this regard, you may be interested to know that a significant percentage of my online school members are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, arthritis, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement, seemingly effortless power, and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them. It all begins with a proper setup which provides for a free-flowing motion. Upon that good foundation a repeatable swing which produces consistently crispy impact can be built. For example, the outward flaring of both feet 10-20 degrees in our setup facilitates the proper amount of body-friendly, free-flowing hip turn back and through. This is a major power source, and it also keeps the club traveling on the correct path. If you were to square your feet so that they were perpendicular to the target line, then your hips would be impeded from turning sufficiently in the backswing (which would then inhibit the shoulders from executing a full and effortless turn), and from releasing properly in the downswing to propel the club through the zone. Restricting this action can cause a variety of path issues and/or also place strain on the lower back, lead knee, and the hip joints as the hips will "want" to move laterally and turn through into the finish but will be fighting the body in the process. Would you like to learn some key aspects of the body-friendly, powerful, low-maintenance swing system I teach in a more structured manner? If so, then here is a link to my recently updated FREE mini course “The Top 3 Keys You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ Featuring 17 videos and 45 minutes of detailed lesson and drill content, this is a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the formal instruction method that has countless thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - now enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews One does nott need the flexibility of a Romanian gymnast - or even of this far less pliable golf instructor - to execute this swing, experience great ball striking, and reclaim - or even exceed - yardages from years past. I hope you'll work through the min course, and if that resonates with you then perhaps you'll consider joining all those ecstatic golfers in the online school! Thanks, Tom Saguto, PGA

Are you starting the back swing with a tilt like in the tilt video or turning the shoulders
@SagutoGolfАй бұрын
My own personal "feels" are not relevant to you because they are unique to me. 😎 Beyond that, they do change quite regularly as I'm always thinking about new possibilities for my lesson content. (Although as long as my setup is good and I've pre-established the necessary connections, I can trust that no matter my "trigger du jour", it's going to get me moving properly into the takeaway and backswing.) This is why I do my best to convey multiple feels or thoughts throughout the swing wherever possible. We're all different physiologically and psychologically, and something that resonates effectively with one golfer may not necessarily work for another. However, no matter the variety of suggested feels/thoughts offered for a particular element of the swing, they are all directed at getting different golfers to achieve the desired positions, motions, and ball striking results. This is one reason why the comprehensive, step-by-step, position-by-position learning platform of my online school is so effective, and as such I strongly recommend it to anyone who truly wishes to get on the proper path towards owning this swing as it will make for a far more efficient and enjoyable learning process rather than haphazardly trying to piece things together through my KZbin content. The lessons and drills provide the guidelines and set the boundaries, while allowing ample leeway for each individual golfer to infuse and exercise their own uniqueness. Thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result of the school, and their unsolicited testimonials tell the story quite well: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews. Hi Tom! I love your content and have started using the weight forward and hip toward the target technique, and my ball striking has gotten a lot better. I have a question about ball position though. When I am using my 7 iron for example, I am playing it more towards my left leg than I normally do and make great contact with it, but the shorter irons seem to go left more. Is there a simple rule of thumb that you have for ball position with this technique for each club? Thanks again for the content! You really make the game a lot easier to understand and implement the changes to my game!
@SagutoGolfАй бұрын
I sincerely appreciate your kind words, Michael, and I’m very glad to know that my instruction is resonating with you; excellent job incorporating it into your swing and putting it into play! While this system affords you some leeway, in general once my students and members show some level of proficiency with the swing I suggest that they migrate to a stock ball position that is in the middle of the stance for short irons, two balls inside the lead heel for middle irons, and creeping more forward for the longer clubs - the farthest forward being even with the inside of the lead heel for the driver (with the stance width increasing as we move from shorter to longer clubs). From there they can make incremental tweaks to see how different positions affect impact quality and shot shape. As for hand position, it remains consistent - even with the inside of your lead thigh - no matter which club you are hitting. Additionally, the lead arm and club shaft should form a straight line from the face-on view, giving your setup a lowercase "y" look. I hope that helps! Thanks so much for your support in sharing your ball striking improvement and keep up the great work!! 💪💪 Tom Saguto, PGA PS: By the way, since my channel’s content is connecting well with you, I am confident that you will also benefit from my newly updated FREE mini course “The Top 3 Keys You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ Featuring 17 videos and 45 minutes of detailed lesson and drill content, this is a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the formal learning method that has countless thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - now enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews

When doing weight forward. Does the should go forward along with the hips? Or is it just the hips forward?
@SagutoGolfАй бұрын
Hi Donny, We begin by addressing the ball stacked shoulders over hips over knees with our weight balanced 50/50. We then simply bump our hips one inch towards the target while keeping everything else in place. This presets a little more weight forward while retaining the stacked relationship (generally 55/45 for the short and mid irons, 60/40 for the longer clubs). We then gradually experience more forward weight load into the transition (70/30), 80/20 halfway down, 90/10 impact, and 95/5 finish, all while keeping our head and swing center intact at least through impact. The result is a centered, stress-free, flowing motion back and through, and a very body-friendly, consistent, powerful swing. And while there is certainly content on my channel that addresses this topic, a more structured option would be my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Keys You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ Featuring 17 videos and 45 minutes of detailed lessons and drills, this is a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the formal learning method that has countless thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - now enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews Thanks, Tom Saguto, PGA

Getting my weight forward at impact raised my credit score.
@ryanng1933Ай бұрын
Hi Tom, I like your videos so much and I instantly have improvement as soon as I swing the club AROUND my body. However, when I watching videos of the pros with swing tracer, they usually have the club up/out the shaft plane in backswing swing trace rather clubhead below the shaft plane (flat takeaway). Does that matter?
@SagutoGolfАй бұрын
We need to be careful when trying to draw conclusions from various videos, Ryan, as different camera angles can greatly skew our perspective in this regard. The swing is a tilted circle (or arc, if we wish to get technical), the circumference of which extends from the ball to above and behind our shoulders. As such, if we are going to remain on that circle/arc it requires the hands and club to take a slightly inward path - not a disconnected handsy snatch or roll to the inside - just a natural tracing of the outer rim or circumference. The feeling of "straight back" can easily pull the golfer off of that preestablished geometry right from the start, and from there precise compensatory actions are necessary if there is any hope of returning the clubface to the ball on the proper path time after time. So rather than have to rely on "dropping it in the slot" the exact amount each and every swing, why not just put in the slot from the start and just keep it there?! We create depth in this swing, and that enables us to fully engage the shoulders and harness the tremendous power of swinging on an inclined arc courtesy of the seemingly effortless force known as "angular momentum" - where physics and geometry collide. Watch any Tour event on TV and you'll see a significant number of players executing these motions, a fact corroborated by just how many of them have their lead arms on or very close to their tilted shoulder planes, and their hands deep behind their trail shoulder at the top. And while I certainly have several videos that address this topic, a more structured option would be my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Keys You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ Featuring 17 videos and 45 minutes of detailed lesson and drill content, this is a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the formal learning method that has countless thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - now enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews Thanks for sharing your improvement and keep up the great work!! I slow down my swing in numerous videos, Luke, but even when I don't you can still manually adjust the playback of any YT video to as slow as 1/4-speed by clicking on the settings button at the lower right side of the video player. Or you can pause a video and press the period ( . ) button to advance frame by frame and the comma ( , ) to reverse frame by frame. My head position remains centered. The only thing that changes is ball position, and that is dictated by club selection and the type of shot I'm trying to play. are you pivoting around your left heal?
@SagutoGolfАй бұрын
I am posting up on my front leg, Chris, but I am not pivoting on that heel. In this swing system we should feel balanced between heel and toe in both feet at address. This balance is achieved by first setting the knees over the toes (or at least over the toe end of the shoelaces) to activate the ground connection, and then pushing the butt out to incline our hips and chest so that a relationship with the ball is established. During the swing it is perfectly fine to experience pressure shifts in either foot as they respond to the dynamic motion, but not to the point where we are falling back onto our heel or leaning too far forward over our toes. Tom, can I use this no matter what club? I struggle hitting my wedges.
@SagutoGolfАй бұрын
Yes, Mason - it is essentially the same swing with every club; just some minor setup differences and naturally occurring shaft plane changes as we graduate up in club length from short irons to woods. To demonstrate, you'll find towards the end of this episode some practice range footage of me hitting a 7 iron, 3 wood, and driver: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pWHbpJaDrrNmrJo. If you are hitting everything well except your wedges, it may be something as simple as ball position. Try moving the ball back towards the middle of your stance with the wedges if you are currently playing it more forward than that. Also, here is a link to my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Keys You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ Featuring 17 videos and 45 minutes of detailed lesson and drill content, this is a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of the swing keys that will ultimately get you mashing the ball through your entire bag, as well as an introduction to the formal learning method that has countless thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - now enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews Tom

I'm very glad to know that you are enjoying my content! If you are experiencing discomfort beyond just some initial soreness of engaging muscles groups that were not previously being used in your swing, then there is likely an issue in your execution of the setup and/or swing motion. I say this with high confidence because the swing system I teach is a proven body-friendly method. As such, it may be a matter of how you are setting your weight forward. To correctly set ourselves for this, we address the ball stacked shoulders over hips over knees with our weight balanced 50/50. We then simply bump our hips one inch towards the target while keeping everything else in place. This presets a little more weight forward while retaining the stacked relationship (generally 55/45 for the short and mid irons, 60/40 for the longer clubs). We then gradually experience more forward weight load into the transition (70/30), 80/20 halfway down, 90/10 impact, and 95/5 finish. The result is a centered, easily repeatable, powerful swing. Beyond that, the outward flaring of both feet 10-20 degrees in our setup facilitates the proper amount of free-flowing hip turn back and through. By the way, you may be interested to know that a significant percentage of my online school members are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, arthritis, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement, seemingly effortless power, and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them. yes, there is no reverse pivot there. i'ts interesting that the long hitter specialist aligns his head off to the right through the course of his backswing; and, then realigns it in his downswing. and, that has got to take his weight forwards.
@SagutoGolfАй бұрын
Indeed, those who claim "reverse pivot" truly have no idea as to what a reverse pivot it! And with regard to the long drive champion, it's likely a counterbalancing action to support his big turn as he is definitely not swaying or losing his swing center! Thanks, Tom

I'm very glad to know that my instruction is resonating with you, Jake, and I'm certainly pleased to learn that you pulled yourself back off the ledge as a result! There are just too many potential variables and unknowns for me to make an accurate diagnosis regarding your hook tendencies without actually seeing your swing. For example, if your path was previously too steep and you were making compensations to prevent the ball from slicing off the planet - perhaps a very strong grip or setting up with a closed face - then those compensations could certainly result in a hook if you have successfully corrected your path. Other things to consider are your ball position is too far forward, your hands are too far back, your weight is not forward enough at impact, more..... Ultimately, the answer lies in ball flight laws. Clubface angle relative to target line at impact is the primary influencer of the ball's starting line and face relative to path determines direction and degree of curvature. From there you can then do some reverse engineering to identify and neutralize the cause of a sideways shot. While there are certainly videos on my channel that address the various causes of hooks, a more structured option would be my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Keys You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ Featuring 17 videos and 45 minutes of detailed lesson and drill content, this is a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the formal learning method that has countless thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - now enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews Let's get things straightened out so those bombs will be consistently finding the middle of the fairway!! This swing theory/idea is a great idea for accuracy as well. The shift in the downswing is probably the hardest part of the swing to concisely replicate. Hence, If you can hit it with power, with your base already set, you'd have to be a dummy to NOT DO IT.
@SagutoGolfАй бұрын
Amen to that! If we were going to build a consistent and powerful ball striking machine, then we'd do best to eliminate variables, right? And weight shift is certainly a major variable! I believe in staying on the ball." Asked what he thinks about teachers who advocate a weight shift, he answers, "They don't know how to play." Now there is certainly an allowance for a transfer of _“pressure”_ into the trail side. In other words, we are an optimized machine! 💪💪 Thanks for your validating remarks and support! Tom...buddy....most pitchers in baseball lift their left foot off the ground, shift to their right foot, and drive off the back foot to bring power....they wouldn't be able to get near their speed if they stayed on their front foot!!!....alo, MANY hitters shift back first before the come forward.....some even STAY on their BACK foot!!....I think I know what you are saying, but be careful of the comparisons to the sports!
@pinnwal8856Ай бұрын
Beyond wrong. No pitcher throws with his weight moving back. They are always driving forward to target. Same for hitters. No one strides moving away from the ball.
@SagutoGolfАй бұрын
I don't know of any major league hitter who stays on his back foot, Gregory. And while some may elect to favor their trail side in their stance as part of their timing mechanism - which is not part of the swing motion - as soon as the ball is exiting the pitcher's hand their weight is moving forward while their rotational axis remains centered. As for pitchers, consider how many 100 mph fireballing relievers elect to pitch from the stretch regardless of whether there are any runners on base. Nothing moving backwards there. Anyway, back to the golf swing....😎

Not if properly executed, Greg. But having said that, as I may have shared previously I do my best to convey multiple “feels” or thoughts throughout the swing wherever possible. We're all different physiologically and psychologically, and something that resonates effectively with one golfer may not necessarily work for another. As such, it is important to understand that the lessons on this channel - while fully aligned with the swing method I teach - address a variety of topics, issues, feels, and/or common flaws/fixes from one episode to the next. They are certainly not intended to be taken as a comprehensive, step-by-step, position-by-position learning platform like the structured curriculum of my online school, which I strongly recommend to anyone who truly wishes to get on the proper path towards owning this swing as it will make for a far more efficient and enjoyable learning process rather than haphazardly trying to piece things together through my KZbin content. The lessons and drills provide the guidelines and set the boundaries, while allowing ample leeway for each individual golfer to infuse and exercise their own uniqueness. Tom

You're going to have some weight shift in your backswing as your body rotates, but it will happen naturally with the mass of you're upper body being behind the ball with your full shoulder turn. However.....this method is great in getting people to not try or purposely shift the weight, resulting in a sway. You'll naturally have a little pressure shift into your rear foot, but not nearly as much as if you try to stand on your rear foot and push off it like a baseball swing. I don't quite get the baseball analogy, though. George Brett (and Ohtani in the video) absolutely drive off their rear feet and end up on their front. The sway and drive off the rear foot in Brett's swing is actually pretty exaggerated. kzbin.info/www/bejne/eIXRgKObhthrhqcsi=WUqlSDFwoAMHB026

That and the stride are part of a timing mechanism necessary to react to a pitched ball. However, unless the batter is completely fooled by an off-speed pitch the actual rotational swing motion does not begin until that front foot is planted. Since the ball is stationary and there is no stride in golf, this is where the analogy begins.

@@SagutoGolf Thanks for the reply. I tried loading my lead side, and it just wasn't working for me. For me, just trying to stay centered and not allowing myself to sway seems to work best. Right now, what I'm working on is the fact that my draw with driver has turned into a fade, and I want my draw back. I'm hitting the ball farther and more consistently, but I think I'll gain yardage with a better ball flight. Another great video, Tom 👍🏻 but, … Another fundamental that almost everyone agrees with universally is: HEAD STILL ☝🏻 I have a tendency to move my head toward the target on the downswing (especially with Driver). Any suggestions for keeping the head in place, as the rest of your body rotates toward the target. I notice your head moves a bit in the downswing as well (look at the trees behind you from face on); it’s even more apparent on the tennis player, and Ohtani, moving his head toward the target pretty dramatically. Most experts say you can TURN your head slightly, but no lateral (or up & down) movement. Do you allow some head movement? … or subscribe to “head still”? 🤔 You’re the best on KZbin. 👊🏻 Keep up the good work.

Draw a circle around the pro’s head. They never let their head move out of the circle. I’ve been training with Tom for many years. While he may seem a little quirky his principles are right on for people that want to improve.

Hi Mike, You've watched enough of my content by now to know that I have spoken specifically about the importance of keeping the head in place from address through impact. After impact the head can release into the finish, and that is what you are observing in my swing. As Mitch suggests in his reply to your comment, cue up a face-on video of any Tour player, put your finger, mouse pointer, or some other reference tool on their head at address, and then observe the extent to which the hips move laterally past your pointer in the downswing while - and this is key - the head and thus the swing center remains in place. Maintaining a steady head was Jack Nicklaus’ most important swing key as explained in this video from my channel's archives: kzbin.info/www/bejne/e2bGpJyan9-nsMk Thanks, Tom

Well, interesting technique presented by a nice and handsome guy. Maybe it’s working, BUT why there is NO player on any of the professional Golf Tours that uses this technique? And in addition I have to tell you Tom that you are completely wrong in your comparison to tennis. In Tennis each stroke is started on the back foot, energy is loaded on the back foot and then transferred to the front foot. Next time, please make a better research before handing out wrong information.

No tour player uses this technique? He has shown many examples of tour players doing exactly what he preaches. Get real my friend and go back and look at his past videos. His set up may look different but when you break the tape down, almost all PGA professionals do this. Regarding the comparison to tennis, I will leave that one alone as it’s not my expertise.

First of all, who is "Mike"?... I'll grant you that in the act of moving towards the ball a tennis player will naturally plant their trail foot, but from that point unless their opponent has placed them in an off-balance position and they are just trying to get the ball over the net, the stroke is played with weight moving forward. In golf we are afforded the "luxury" of starting from a static position as the ball is not moving. As such I stand firmly by my comparison. (I'm revisiting and editing my reply here to insert this comment just received from @adamj2381: _"This is a great video. As a tennis player your comparison is spot on."_ ) The notion of a “weight” shift in the golf swing has led many an amateur golfer into the vast abyss of chronic inconsistency and frustration. As for your "NO player on Tour" comment, in actuality this body-friendly, powerful, low-maintenance swing system is rooted in physics, geometry, and human physiology, and it is modeled on empirical observations of the game's greatest ball strikers. As such it does not discriminate by age or ability - from kids to seniors and everyone in between, inclusive of the best players in the world. Watch any Tour event on TV and you'll see a significant number of players executing these motions, a fact corroborated by just how many of them have a very centered swing with the lead knee flexing and the trail leg straightening during the backswing, their lead arms on or very close to their tilted shoulder planes, and their hands deep behind their trail shoulder at the top. Truth is thousands of folks across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players - are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result of learning this swing system through my online school, and their unsolicited testimonials tell the story quite well: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews. Compare and contrast that with the sad reality that despite all the advances in equipment, technology, golf course grooming, etc. the average golfer still struggles to break 100. Epic failures within the realm of “conventional” instruction, perhaps??? So many misconstrued and/or misguided teachings - such as taking the club straight back, turning the shoulders level while independently lifting the arms, shifting into and torquing against a firm trail side, firing the hips, actively rolling the hands through impact, etc. - have relegated generations of golfers to the vast abyss of inconsistency and chronic frustration (and chronic back/knee/hip pain as well). More of a response than I suppose was warranted by the tone of your comment, but anyway there you have it. Thanks for visiting and best of luck to you. TOM Saguto, PGA

@@SagutoGolfTom, that was a mic drop comment my friend. Well done. I, along with thousands of others, have greatly benefited from your content and teachings. You are excellent buddy. One day we will meet. I need to shake your hand. It’s at the top of my list to join your class. I think it will further improve my swing and what’s going on 6 inches between my ears. I didn’t elaborate much on the tennis comparison but it makes sense as does baseball. All so similar in technique. Thanks again buddy and let’s get you to a 1 million followers. I’ve sent so many folks your way and they are all still watching you. It’s a true testament to your knowledge and approach to the greatest game ever played-along with baseball of course😀 Cheers, Tom. Hi Tom, after learning your swing (weight forward, left arm straight, right arm tucked, no notable "release" or flip, I've been hitting great shots. However, off late I have been experiencing a pain in my left arm (elbow region) as a result of this swing. Any idea what could be going wrong?
@SagutoGolfАй бұрын
Actually, if you are experiencing pain beyond just some initial soreness of engaging muscles groups that were not previously being used in your swing, then there is likely an issue in your execution of the setup and/or swing motion. I say this with high confidence because the system I teach is a proven body-friendly method. Having said that, without actually seeing your swing it is impossible for me to identify possible causes for your elbow pain. Now, when you say "after learning your swing", how are you learning it? Here on YT? If so, then it is important to understand that the lessons on this channel - while fully aligned with the swing method I teach - address a variety of topics, issues, feels, and/or common flaws/fixes from one episode to the next. Would you like to learn some key aspects of the body-friendly, powerful, low-maintenance swing system I teach in a more structured manner? If so, then here is a link to my newly updated FREE mini course “The Top 3 Keys You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ Featuring 17 videos and 45 minutes of detailed lesson and drill content, this is a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the formal instruction method that is delivering the referenced results. @SagutoGolf Hi tom, thanks for your detailed response. I have already signed up and completed the free mini course on the saguto golf app! It was a great experience. In fact, I was very happy with the crispy contact I was experiencing after following your instructions as per the mini course. I think one of the reasons I might be struggling is I am still struggling with coming over the top, and also the follow through in the down swing tends to get stuck at about shoulder height (a local pro who saw my swing recently suggested that the left arm pain could be due to not "releasing" the club correctly). Which additional courses within the saguto golf app would you recommend for me?
