Why in the world are more women not taught these things way, way earlier like in our twenties? It's such a big, complicated issue that's so effects our entire lives and relationships and even our finances that I can't believe were not taught all about this monster called menopause at a much earlier stage of life. I just sent this to someone today! Menopause is joked about, but nobody really tells you what to expect. By the time we realize we are in perimenopause, we are already through it and onto menopause. I’ve always had female gynecologist, and they discouraged me from hormone replacement. two years into menopause and five years of hot flashes and night sweats. I finally begged for horemones and switched doctors. Now to find out I should have been on hormones years ago.

Take hormone replace therapy if you can. Find a menopause specialist, preferably from the North American Menopause Society and make an appointment, those are the best suited doctors to go to because they are educated in menopause. I used to have hot flashes and night sweats, brain fog and I gained weight (I still have to lose it and it's not easy) but I just started HRT and I am sooo happy with it because a lot of my symptoms are gone.

The fat doesn’t redistribute- it gets added to the gut. I’m an RN and I’m 56 and no one taught me this which is really frustrating. I had to figure this out on my own with research. I should have an MD behind my BSN by now. I also think we become insulin RESISTANT YEARS BEFORE it shows on our glucose tests. I ride 50 + miles a DAY and am eating virtually nothing and am STILL gaining weight. No diet has helped me- NONE. It makes me mad that I actually had to tell my rheumatologist 4 times that I felt like I was insulin resistant and she argued with me that my labs were “normal.” I don’t think we need education- I think other PHYSICIANS need education. What ruined me was not having health insurance and not being able to pay for the lab work required to start HRT then to recheck levels. The Federal gov several years offered Medicaid to people who didnt have insurance and didn't qualify for what they call Obamacare. It was up to each Governor of each state to accept or not. Nicky Haley, our Govenor at the did not accept. Which left hundreds of thousands South Carolinians with zero health insurance. And me suffering with severe menopausal symptoms until I turned 65 this year and got Medicare. That ruined my life for several years. Menopause is not to be taken lightly. I gained most of my excess weight long before menopause started ( had never been what you'd call slim), and between 2011 and 2021 ( menopause started and ended within this time, between the ages of about 52-56....I'm 60 now) I only gained another 10 lbs or so. 13 months ago I decided I'd had enough and since then have lost 77 lbs. Did nothing only stick rigidly to my once a day eating ( I always only ate in the evening anyway, but too much / too much snacking and alcohol as well), nothing after 7pm and no alcohol. I also cut out sugar to start with to give me a good start which in turn gave me the motivation to continue and not give up ( I do have some sugar now but not a lot). I realised that the late night eating and drinking had been the culprit. I also learned that what I'd been doing with the one actual meal a day idea ( for most of my adult life) is known as intermittent fasting, and has great benefits, and regarding weight loss plays a big role. I'd recommend trying it, for anyone struggling with weight loss, though I know it's not easy when you want and are used to 3 meals a day. I was 224 lbs and am now 147 lbs. Lost about 14 inches from around my middle ( found my waist again) and dropped my BMI from 42 to 29 ( so far)....this has taken me from being in the morbidly obese category to the overweight category. I want to drop about another 25 lbs ideally, as I'm only 5 ft tall, so all that fat on me looked even worse due to being short. Because of what I've achieved myself, I stopped believing that it's impossible for older women to lose weight.

@@thelordismyshepherd1366 It can be done but takes massive willpower...did for me anyway. I still wonder where that willpower came from, as previously it was pretty much non existent. The idea of getting older still and potentially having mobility problems or other health issues scared me so I had no choice really.

Thank you for this, the more information the better. Dr Louise Newson in the U.K. says 1 in 100 women will go through the menopause before the age of 40, 1 in 1000 before 30 but most doctors won’t consider they may be peri menopausal or menopausal. I am 55, menopausal and considering HRT, not due to any adverse symptoms, but for future proofing my brain and body. There are so many differing views, it is overwhelming.

Real Deal, what would you say is the difference between synthetic and biol identical hormones?
@realdeal85052 жыл бұрын
@@margaretsmith1385 Synthetic hormones such as progestin (progesterone) and Cenestin (estrogens) are made from things like horses urine and other chemicals, which aren’t normal to the human body. They’re one size fits all pharmaceutical remedies. And synthetics just mask the symptoms they don’t actually replace what you, Margaret are missing. Bio Identical hormones are made from natural plant compounds that are to YOUR biology, no one else’s. Blood tests determine what you are missing. What I am missing may be different from you and so on. A physician or naturopathic Dr. (most medical Drs aren’t taught this way to be honest), will order them through a compounding pharmacy which makes them for you. They can be pellet, troche (lozenges), cream forms, etc. First heard of them from a friend who had to have a complete hysterectomy which thrust her straight into menopause at 42. She told me about them. I’ve been taking them ever since, feel great and that was at age 48. When we lose our hormones that’s when illnesses and disease can set in amongst other things. There are several books written about them, but the first ones I read were, The Sexy Years, Discover the Hormone Connection & Ageless, The Naked Truth About Bio Identical Hormones. Both By Suzanne Sommers in collaboration with curing edge doctors who have been trained in Bio Hormones.

One huge factor I haven't heard you comment on is that exercise is a SMALL portion of what we expend calories on in a day. Movement in the entire day is what most calories are spent on, walking, cleaning your house, fidgeting, running errands etc. When you don't feel well and even if you don't sleep well studies show you will automatically decrease your activity level significantly in the day even if you do your exercise. Similarly days people have really really hard workouts this happens as well. Unless they are aware they typically will automatically decrease other movement in the day. This is why there is weight gain related to poor sleep. In the case with menopause if you feel off and not well your activity level through the day will decrease. Also most people as they age their activity level drops off and they sit more. There have been studies supporting this information. I agree the quality of the food matters but calories matter as does overall activity level throughout the day as well.

I’m 42 and am still in the throes of normal periods so any regimens I’ve done up to this point for weight maintenance may not work for those already going through menopause and beyond. One thing I have been doing for years is be VERY observant of my body’s response to food, eating schedule, and exercise. This is how I know when I need to change something up. The biggest change came with muscle loss at 41, even though it was subtle. I only notice it because my clothes were a little looser in certain places but not better fitting. I also hurt a lot - Muscle loss can be painful. I started weight training (I had never done much of that before, but I was exercising) and it took months and a lot of miserable soreness before I began to notice a change in how I looked and felt. The seemingly rapid muscle loss took me by surprise. My plan is to continue with maintaining muscle tone (I’ve never been muscular, but at least I can tone), eat as healthy and balanced as possible, keep stress low, (HAHA), and utilize intermittent fasting as that has helped me with maintaining a leaner belly in the past when I needed it. Intermittent fasting only seems to work for me by eating my last meal at 3-4 PM and then a light breakfast at 8-9 pm the next day. It doesn’t work for me to not eat breakfast. With exception of one year in my early twenties, (long story) I’ve never been overweight, but I have fluctuated towards the lower and upper range of my supposed normal body weight. I truly believe knowing your body and being cognizant of any changes early on, will help tackle any issues. I’m hopeful that maintaining muscle tone will help minimize that belly weight during menopause.

Bought the book and started the Galveston diet. Game changer. For the first time of my life I don’t have sugar carvings just upping my protein intake three times a day ! Hopefully the joint pains will start to ease too. ( insane insane amount of weight gain. 20 lbs !!)

Thank you!!! I knew something was wrong when I seemingly gained 15lbs overnight! I have always been fairly thin, active, and eat very healthy(especially since I am on a some what restrictive diet due to suffering from Crohns, Celiacs, and Methane based SIBO). Most of the weight was in my stomach and hips, which I have NEVER had an issue with. It took a year for the docs to finally take me seriously and additional peri symptoms started to rear their ugly head before the docs took a closer look/tests and finally diagnosed me as being in peri-menopause. So, now I eat a a calorie deficit, just to maintain my weight and try to not gain anymore weight. I am still far from being obese, but when you gain 2 lbs from eating the daily recommended calories for a woman my age and activity level, you adjust things. Still my doctor says my symptoms are just things I have to deal with, to include the weight gain.

Consider trying the Galveston Diet, www.galvestondiet.com, so you are not working with a calorie deficit.

Hi, can you tell me what treatment you used for Methane SIBO? I get so much bloating and lean toward Constipation but the Rifaxamin I took last year didn’t do anything really. Mostly it feels like chronic bloating from everything. Trying to follow a zero fiber diet to control symptoms.

Use pre, pro and post biotics ,collagen, to help with gut health and collagen will help with joint pain ,and the visceral fat . Vitamin D3 withK2 magnesium, exercise and this help’s with insulin resistance and bringing cortisol levels down. Don’t do high intensity workouts it drives up cortisol levels.

I gained 40 lbs and I'm a very healthy eater. My hormones were next to nothing and very post menopause in my mid 40's. I've been on bio hormones since 46 and am now 4 yrs post menopause at 54. I've been maintaining the last two years but really need 20 of those pounds off to feel better. Energy levels are the biggest challenge. All my energy goes into working and nothing is left to work out. I'm super sensitive to testosterone and have to be careful because the pellets made me estrogen dominant with testosterone converting to more estrogen. I had to have a D&C due to postmenopausal bleeding. Now I use creams so I can control it and dose it according to symptoms. Most of my fat is in my hips, thighs, and boobs. Menopause was by far the most humbling thing to go through in life and I have been through a lot!

Thank you. I was in super great shape in my early 50's when I started menopause. I just turned 70 and I eat more healthily and no processed, I eat stuff we grow in our own garden, no alcohol, been a vegetarian for 55 yrs. I take care of my Mom who is 95. I am very active and I do not eat a lot. I rarely eat sweets or desserts. Aaaaand I now weigh 15lbs more than I did at 50yrs. I look like I swallowed a watermelon. No waist anymore (used to have an hour glass figure. I've always been strong and healthy, never skinny, but now I do not feel that my body reflects my diet and all that I do. Really, I eat home grown vegetables, homemade vegetarian soups, fruit, cottage cheese, Greek yogurt, lots of water, decaf coffee, cranberry juice cut with water, V8 juice etc. It is maddening to not look like I feel.

There are many reasons why you could be gaining weight, including your hormones, unfortunately, I cannot give you individualized advice unless you are a patient. You may want to consider the Galveston Diet. www.galvestondiet.com

I had a hysterectomy at 45, still have my ovaries and tubes, I have been in menopause for over 12 years now. No, not mild symptoms, major symptoms. Hot flashes, night sweats so bad, sleep deprivation, weight gain!, hair loss, memory issues, non-existent sex life and nothing has worked for me. I've tried gabapentin, Effexor, hormone patches, OTC supplements, NOTHING has worked. I am 58, soon to be 59 and let me tell you, this will literary drive you nuts and the depression of thinking I will never be rid of this is sometimes overwhelming. Thank you for your video's, I'm hoping to get something out of them.

Thank you so much! I began perimenopause at 37 years old. I am now 41 and suffering with 100% of frustration! I smell food and gain weight - it's so depressing. I've always been thin and I am now overweight. I've tried everything with no success 😥
