I lost 50 lbs. by first, giving up all sugar, then high-carb foods, including all grains and root vegetables like potatoes. I get carbs from the natural cow’s milk and nuts I consume, as well as healthy fats. A daily, brisk walk really helps burn fat, too, I go straight up the steepest hill in my area. (Milk substitutes are very high in sugar and carbs, plus I don’t eat anything processed).
@Mariafsadler8 ай бұрын
This is so true. Oat milk is really not ideal and do many people think it’s healthy!

Just found your channel and loved this video. I’m down 40 pounds on similar plan. My main problem has been getting enough protein on a restricted calorie intake. I’m on 1000 cals/day to achieve 1 pound a week loss. But your advice is right in line with my Dr. You look fabulous!!

Thank you for sharing your experience with us. I also love reading the comments: so many people sharing their journey. I too lost a lot of weight since November last year and already lost 20 pounds in 2020. I'm off the high blood pressure medication and I'm feeling so much better now. I've always done fitness, but I've added walking to my weekly routine too. A change of lifestyle really has done a lot of good for me, although my health will never be what it was before (I survived pulmonary embolism twice), I do feel much better now than I did a few years ago. It's never too late to make a change to your lifestyle!

Fantastic video, Maria. I've cut out sugar and reduced the amount of carbs I eat, and am feeling lighter and happier. I am losing weight slowly but surely and am getting a blood test to see if my cholesterol levels had gone down One thing I was very proud of was learning to swim in my 50s. I found a small pool near me and a great teacher who managed to work out what I was doing wrong, and then helped me get it right. I thoroughly recommend learning to swim if you can't already!
@Mariafsadler8 ай бұрын
Well done on the swimming Georgina that’s brilliant. I like swimming but I’ve never been good at it or done it ‘properly’ good to hear that the changes are working and slow and steady is much better and you are more likely to maintain it x

The low-fat diet craze we all lived with for 30 years was completely wrong. I was always skinny until told by my doctor to eat more carbs and no fats! We became much fatter and unhealthier than ever doing that. A balanced diet of mostly natural, unprocessed foods is best.
@Mariafsadler8 ай бұрын

I do love your videos, Maria, and I really look forward to seeing you each week. You look absolutely fantastic - you're glowing! This one is right up there as one of my favourites. Maybe it's because I have lost the same amount of weight as you in the same time frame by making the exact same lifestyle changes: TRE, adding more protein & cutting out carbs etc, and incorporating more exercise. Thank you for sharing your reasons behind the weight loss and for all the tips. You mentioned in the video that you would add a link to a podcast. Maybe it's a case of my looking and not seeing (most likely!) but I haven't spotted any details about it or a link.

I am following the same sort of plan, although mostly carnivore now. I made the decision to start looking after myself the week before Christmas 😅. Then after lots of research I started keto on the 1st Feb, after I had already lost 20 lbs and from mid march started carnivore. I have currently lost 70 lbs and feel so much better, I also do intermittent fasting and OMAD. Thanks for sharing. Jo Devon 🙂

Great video, Maria. You look fantastic. Thanks for sharing your tips which are very similar to what I’ve been doing for a year. I’ve been following the Second Nature diet (basically low carb, no sugar and I rarely drink alcohol). I was referred by GP because of high cholesterol and have lost 1.5 stone and have gone from a size 18 to a 14. It’s a great feeling to go shopping and buy what you love instead of what fits! BTW, what lipstick were you wearing? Looks lovely ❤

Great advice Maria and congratulations on achieving such great health improvements. 5 years ago I did keto and lost 15kgs and felt much better and my Doctor wished his cholesterol was as good as mine. Then COVID hit and my daughter had to battle cancer, I badly injured my knee and finally last year had a knee replacement. Unfortunately I went back to old habits and regained my weight. I struggled to get my mobility back after surgery and for months I experienced fibromyalgia symptoms. So 3 weeks ago I went back to intermittent fasting and started carnivore eating with only occasional vegetables and fruit. The difference in how I felt was amazing, aches, pains and my moods felt better within 48 hours. Within 3 days I suddenly started walking around the house without using a walker. My tastebuds have changed and many things taste really sweet now. Mentally it's challenging to change from our old dieting mentality that fats, eggs and red meat were bad for us and we were encouraged to eat carbohydrates and highly processed "diet foods". Every diet you tried you were always hungry and had to rely on willpower. Now I eat for good health at 64 and this way of eating is feeling so effortless and I seldom feel hungry between meals. It's never too late. Well done Maria, you look much healthier and brighter. Amazing effort and I appreciate you sharing your journey. ❤

How many carbs do you eat in a day? Do you try to reach a protein goal? Thanks so much 😊
@Mariafsadler8 ай бұрын
I haven’t been particularly strict on the amount so far although I do have protein in every meal. The recommendation I was given and that I loosely follow is 1-2g per kilo of ideal body weight for protein and 130g of carbs 👍

You're looking wonderful. I made changes in December 2022. I had been thinking I couldn't live in my house very many more years due to multiple staircases that were increasingly difficult to navigate and health problems that were building. I decided to try carnivore. I am so satisfied with it that I am still on it a year and a half later... 70 pounds lost and easily running up and down my stairs. Like you, I'm not hungry all the time... there is no longer a little voice inside me telling me to eat it all... I eat till satisfied, generally twice a day. The major drawback is that so much socialization revolves around eating and drinking and that can be difficult... easier, I think, with your style of eating. I'm so amazingly happy with the way I feel now that I don't see myself giving it up at any point.

Please learn about cholesterol and the ratios. We don’t want to have low cholesterol bc it is associated with dementia. If a doctor is directing you to lower cholesterol and has not checked your ratios, please find a new doctor who is knowledgeable about the true research.

I have had good advice from the doctor snd nutritionists I saw and I’m not concerned my cholesterol it was more my Gp making a big deal about it. Unfortunately many doctors are either not up to date or don’t have the time to work with you. The doctor at the lipids clinic told me I would almost certainly need to go on statins at some point which I am very anti and have now proved him wrong! I listened to a fascinating podcast about dementia and the link with food and the need for fats 👍 As I said I eat full fat, I was more concerned about getting my weight and blood pressure down which I’ve done by eating protein and natural fats and I’m continuing to educate myself about the new research I just wish my GP would too!
