Love the objectivity here: "but if you enjoy cardio then continue to do so." No doubt metabolic resistance training is best for fat burning, but if you love cardio then do it! We've got an obesity problem, not a running problem in the world lol. Great video brother!!

+Rasputin Varez That only works if the person is actually over eating. There are plenty of people who really aren't eating much at all yet are still overweight due to a sedentary lifestyle and a slow metabolism. For example, I recently started a "diet" to lose some weight and I began by calculating my daily energy requirements, cutting 500 calories off of that number, and eating a "calorie restricted" diet. I immediately gained weight. I had to cut down to a dangerously low 1600 calories a day to actually lose weight and even then I only lost 7 net pounds (that is excluding the 8 I gained after starting the diet) and then I hit a plateau. So what were my options? Just live with being overweight, or cut my already dangerously low caloric intake even further? I went back and did some calculations on my food intake from before my diet started. Turns out I was already eating very little food for my size and when I started my calorie deficit, I inadvertently increased my food intake by close to 800 calories a day, which is why I gained weight. If you don't eat much food, your body becomes more efficient and your metabolism slows down to compensate. Your body becomes very good at running on very little and anything even slightly extra gets stored as fat. So now I am "reverse dieting" by eating a little more every week, and trying to speed my metabolism back up. As of now, I am eating 2400 calories a day (up from 1600) and my weight is actually staying about the same with a slight downward trend. Once I get up to around 3200 calories a day, I'll be able to cut again and hopefully lose some fat. So yes, there are plenty of people out there who aren't over eating. They are under eating and just not moving around enough to generate the hunger that would cause them to eat enough food to keep their metabolism burning properly. Then somebody like you tells them to eat even less, and they don't understand why they aren't losing weight, why they feel like shit, and they give up and assume they are just supposed to be fat.
@alexusanin1632
@alexusanin1632 7 жыл бұрын
Ugh, you are doing it wrong sir. First that's why you are GRADUALLY reducing the calorie intake while increasing some exercise. I will repeat the GRADUALLY part, because once you go starving, you will screw up your metabolism and will most likely gain weight as a result. Now, you also need to be honest with yourself about what you eat and how much. Calorie is a calorie, it's an energy that can be converted into fat if needed for storage. You absorb from 60% to 98% of that energy depending on what you ate, but if you don't consume enough there is just no excess energy to store in your body and thus fat is not stored.
@KurNorock
@KurNorock 7 жыл бұрын
+Alex Usanin I did GRADUALLY reduce my caloric intake. the mistake I made was that I was already not eating much BEFORE I started the diet. I had just assumed that I was eating 3200 calories a day because that is what all the TDEE and BMR calculators told me I was eating to maintain my weight. I did not know that I was actually only eating about 2000-2100 calories a day. So when I began tracking my calories, I had a goal of 2800 calories, which I thought was a 500 calorie cut, but as it turns out, it was a 700 calorie increase, so I gained weight. Then every 5 days or so I cut 200 calories off of 2800 until I got to eating 1800 calories a day, and THAT was when I finally started to lose weight. I continued at 1800 calories for several weeks, losing a total of about 10 pounds, then my weight loss stopped. I tried one more cut to 1600 to see if the weight loss would start again but it did not. This was all over a 2-3 month period of time. I would say that is pretty gradual. I have continued my reverse dieting and I am currently eating 2800-3000 calories per day. I have not gained or lost any weight even though I am eating nearly twice as much food. As a matter of fact, I am the exact same weight today as I was 2 months ago when I first hit my weight loss plateau. That being said, I believe the reverse diet is working because not only am I wearing a smaller belt, but I am at the smallest limits of that belt and will need another smaller belt within the next couple weeks. Also, my gym has one of those hand held electronic body fat measuring devices (I know they aren't accurate, but it is a decent way to at least keep track of progress) and according to that device, I have dropped from 26% body fat to 21% body fat in the last 6 weeks, even though my weight has stayed the same and I am eating more food. A calorie is NOT a calorie. Yes, all calories can be converted to fat stores if you don't need that energy immediately, but not all calories are efficient at that conversion process. for example, most of the protein you consume is first used to build and repair your internal organs before your muscles get a chance to use it. Also, it costs over 30% of the energy you get from protein in order for your body to break it down into usable form. So if you ate nothing but 3000 calories of pure protein for a day, your body would only have access to maybe 2000 calories of it. If you require 2200 calories to fuel your body for that day, you are going to lose weight as your body needs 200 calories from your fat stores to function. If you ate 3000 calories of simple sugary carbs in one day, your body is going to have access to nearly the entire amount, putting your body in a surplus where you will be storing 500-700 calories as body fat. Even among the macro nutrients, a carb is not a carb. Refined sugars are absorbed without much energy being used for processing at all while a complex carb uses a fair amount of energy to get broken down. Then there are insoluble carbs (fiber) which are carbs that are so complex and robust that your body can't break them down at all (it still tries) and they pass through unabsorbed. And yes, technically, if you don't consume enough calories, your body can't store anything.That is not my argument. My argument is that there are a LOT of people out there who don't need as many calories as everybody says they need, they are sedentary, lethargic, sitting at a desk or on a couch all day, and as a result, they are eating very little food, BUT still eating enough that there is a slight surplus, or they are having that big meal or fast food that puts them in a huge surplus 1-4 times per week, and THAT is when they gain weight. This is what happened to me. I am a big guy. I've always been known for eating a lot. But when I got a job that had very little activity and I was no longer going to the gym, my appetite fell along with my metabolism. I could still eat a lot at one time, but that would often be the only meal I had in the day. I thought I was over eating, but in truth i was under eating and slowing my metabolism down. I can see this same effect in my mom. She should be eating 2000 calories a day to maintain her weight, but she is barely eating 1300-1500. My grandpa struggles to keep weight off, yet he eats like a bird. Tiny meals twice a day that couldn't add up to more than 1200 calories total. The body is smart. It recognizes when you aren't eating much and makes adjustments to counteract that. Your body becomes more efficient, your appetite gets reduced, you need less food to get through the day. That sounds great, but the negatives are that any tiny amount of extra energy is stored away, you are weaker, you don't heal from injury or working out as quickly, you feel tired all the time, building muscle becomes next to impossible, you are more prone to injury, and you don't think as clearly.
@alexusanin1632
@alexusanin1632 7 жыл бұрын
You have a very good point. I misunderstood you then. Yes, indeed with out physical activity our bodies adapt and our bare minimum becomes way less. I also mentioned in my comment that calories is a calorie, though you absorb from 60 to 98% of it, which is basically what you said about the different types of food and how they go about in our bodies. I am at 182 lbs, 5" 11' and have a tad more fat than I want. My daily norm to loose 0.5 pounds a week is(and that is daily, without any cheat day) is 1780 calories with exercising 3 times a week. What worked for me is to track everything that goes into my mouth. I was surprised how I could just accumulate those extra 700 calories of surplus one night a week just from a bunch of little snacks. But realistically, even with very moderate activity, first tracking the current callories and weight gain, then reducing by as much calories as you calculated based on that and then a bit more should lead you to a healthy weight loss. Add activity and you got yourself on the right track :)

looks guys, first thing you do is completly stop eating junkfood and replace all drinks with WATER. I went from 190lbs to 165lbs in 3 months. I usually eat low calorie high protein foods and consume no less than 80 grams of protein a day. Keep your calorie intake to about 1800-2000 a day. Trust me, if it's hard, start by replacing all drinks with just water. Water is key 🔑

Thanks for this information. When I started going to the gym, I wondered why my coach only allotted 10 minutes cardio for my warm up. He didn't tell me to run or sprint, but just do 10 minutes. In a 1 hour training session, I do 15 minutes cardio and 45 minutes weight lifting. I didn't get it at first because I told them explicitly that I wanted to lose weight, get leaner, and lose fat. Then I remembered my initial assessment. My metabolism was only at 1300 calories. They told me that our goal would be increasing my metabolism to 2000. That's why we're going to build muscle through lifting first. They didn't annoy me with fixing my diet strictly, but I did tell them I'll make better food choices. This video helped me understand everything that's going on. P.S. I'm at week 3 of my training. I look forward to going to the gym and I'm sad when my program gets disrupted and I can't go to the gym.

don't project your life onto other people. not everybody spends much time online or on social media. some people work 8-12 hours a day, have a 1-3 hour drive to get to and from work, then have to spend time taking care of children, cleaning the house, cooking dinner, grocery shopping, and don't forget eating, shitting, showering, shaving, and sleeping. so when exactly are they supposed to just find 2 hours to go for a walk? if they have any time at all to devote to working out they would be MUCH better served lifting weights.

Saw the channel for about a week and finally clicked on it. Love your videos because your bringing actual science into your videos. I've taken physiology, anatomy and nutrition and I've tried to tie them together myself. Another topic I think you should cover is how to do the compound lifts, I think it would help beginners out a lot. Keep doing your what you're doing.

I mainly do strength, but I've found that high intensity cardio can be a good burner too. Do some 3000-5000m runs, and aim to run as fast as possible, beating your old records. The crazy intensity is just as good as that of a heavy weightlifting session, and it only takes 10-15 minutes. But, frankly, if you want my absolute best advice on weight loss, grab a heavy backpack(30-40kgs) and go trekking in the mountains for a couple of weeks. I lost 20kg in my first month in the army that way.

I have about 50 lbs fat to lose, my intention was to see if I lose weight over a month period . I trained for upper body, my lower body has plenty of muscle from decades of rollerblading and cycling.

yea I dont think most of us can jump rope that long without fucking up our knees. I used to just do five minutes of it to warm up before doing my jogs in the cold.
@musingsofajay387
@musingsofajay387 8 жыл бұрын
WarriorOfPiece thats if you have their endurance. most people cant go on for more than five minutes. If youre talking about HIIT activities they are probably better off doing that on a treadmill. Most people dont have a good ground for rope and itll bust their knees
@Peacekeeper_84
@Peacekeeper_84 8 жыл бұрын
You guys can't be serious, jump roping is one of the best exercise for burning fat. It's a low impact type of exercise, you just have to learn the correct technique, watch a boxer jumping rope or an MMA fighter.
@Peacekeeper_84
@Peacekeeper_84 8 жыл бұрын
I'm not a boxer or MMA fighter I'm just a average person and I can jump rope for 20 min straight and I can squat 180 kg and my knees are perfectly fine. Most people don't take exercise seriously and give up at the end of the month and then starts crying because it isn't working for them but how in hell people thinks that they gonna get better if they don't keep practicing?
@musingsofajay387
@musingsofajay387 8 жыл бұрын
WarriorOfPiece well good for you! I can run 5 km just fine and squat and deadlift but jumping rope just isnt ideal for where I live and my knees hurt when I do them. Some people prefer HIIT running, some people prefer ropes. Im not saying ropes are bad or not good, but to some people its not ideal and or may be discouraging to start with.

There are few things missing here, but most important one is that you shouldn't overburden your body with weight-training every day (unlesss for different body parts) and even with that there should be some days off. It's not like a big deal, but sometimes it's worth mentioning such thing so some people won't hurt themselves just cause of video in YT ;)

I go to the gym and I lift weights. Before starting my workout, I do 30 minutes Cardio. But I also do cardio for 30 minutes as first thing in the morning after I wake up in an empty stomach. I simply jog in the neighborhood, do a few aerobic exercises like jumping jacks, high knee runs, etc. And the 30 mins cardio at the gym in the evening is treadmill for 15 minutes and cycling for 15 minutes. I do this 6 days a week. And no, I don't have a cheat day. I have a rest day where I don't work out at all. As a result, I have been insanely losing weight. Say 3 kilograms a week.

In term of time, I think running is more time efficient. Stepping out of the door and running for a good hour takes just one hour. But if I'm going to gym, it always takes me way longer time. You have to count the traveling time, changing in the locker room, waiting for the equipment, and the rest time between sets, warm up time, 12 rep x 5 set x 3 different exercises, and taking selfies in front of mirror time... it takes for ever.
Why You Should Consider CALISTHENICS (Especially BEGINNERS)
