I'm 15 and I don't hoop much, but I just one day learned. I just can't maintain it for more than like 40 seconds so I checked out this video. I'll try to stance and I've been doing a circular rather than back and forth motion

It’s still a miracle to me. I’m going to watch more videos. I was also advised to get a 42” hoop vs the 36” one I originally purchased. I’m a large female with a 44” waist. That’s circumference, not diameter! Lol

Thank you so much for such a comprehensive archive of tutorials. They're fantastic and I only started about a month ago and now I've gone from a 42" Hpde to a 34" polypro dancing, and a 30" for waist hooping (for smaller lengths of time haha) Sending you the biggest smile because I've totally fallen in love with hooping :)

Sir I am 54 years old and was a hula hoop champ😂 back in my day. You gave a great explanation so I’m thinking maybe it’s just my weighted hoop. It’s a little on the floppy side because I bought it off amazon and the pieces connect together. It’s an okay concept but now using it I feel it is definitely the hoop and not my technique. You also mentioned size and that too never occurred to me as we didn’t have different sizes back in the day.

I want to dance at an open air music festival. AND I want to continue enjoying this newfound love of movement & challenges; I wouldn’t mind teaching classes to others to share that joy (in time, obvs .) I’m 51 and have loved the past month of hooping! Still not successfully waist hooping, but that could be more a matter of fitness. All in good time, with practice. Great idea!! I didn't think to do that with that hoop. If you feel inspired to let me know who it goes, I'd be interested in hearing about that. Though I make my own collapsible hoops. If people bought two of this hoop it could be a nice hack for beginners to be more successful.

Thank you so much for this great instructional video. I met a dude who had great custom made hoops and I was able to keep one up easily. I was so suprised. The next day I felt it in my whole body, and I decided it is the perfect workout tool for me. I bought another kind of weighted hoop that is covered in foam and it is light. It is a challenge keeping it up. His were bigger. Still struggling, but will try filling it with rice and see if it helps. Wondering if I could buy the same hoop online again and add another section? Or maybe I should just look for a larger hoop. Thanks.

Oh no! Well I'd have to see what you are doing to get more of a feel for what you are doing. I'd say if it is hurting a lot you might want to stop. Once you are able to hoop, it shouldn't require much movement to make it work.

Last hoop I used was my kid sister's. I was about 6 or 7-years-old and I got pretty good one summer then the fad stopped, we moved house and the hoop got binned. I've just ordered a new one at the tender age of 61, need to lose a load of weight but my cardiologist says that under it all my core is in great shape and my heart is better now than it was at 40 so there's hope. Have ordered a lightweight (1.4 kg) to start but hope to progress to heavier weights. I'm thinking several five-minute sessions a day to begin, how does that sound? Released to have found a site where a guy is showing how to hoop too!

Hey thank you so much for the compliment. In regards to your hooping, I would have to see more to fully understand what's happening. Have you considered hooping in front of a mirror before or filming yourself so you can see what you are doing. If your posture and how you are moving is off, then that could definitely make the hoop fall.

thank you! this video is really helpful. I just started today to work on my back pain and I do have some questions: 1. I noticed the hoop starting to go from horizontally, as it should be, to shifting into a diagonally motion. what am I doing wrong here? is my right foot too far in front? am I moving my hips in a wrong way? 2. can I go easy on the hooping or am I supposed to go super fast and strong? because it looks so easy when you do it and very hard when I go for it. can I still work on my lower back muscles and stamina while doing it more slowly? is there even a perfect tempo so to say? thanks again and hope all of you are healthy and well in these weird times!

Woah this helped. I've been able to hula-hoop for a long time. I swlf taught myself I think just by using logic I think. I'd been doing it wrong tho. I could only do for up to half a minute, but with your strategy I've managed to hit minutes and that's just cause I eventually get tired. I can even walk with it, but walking with it is pretty easy. I'd been doing a circular motion when really you're supposed to do a back and forth motion which I guess is why I could never keep it up for long. I didn't even think I'd be able to use it because the size and how skinny I am, thank you so much.

Can't seem to stop bruising, and don't wanna wear anything padded -- knowing myself I'm not gonna keep putting a pad like object around my waist everytime I wanna hula. One of the reasons I stopped riding a motorcycle was cuz of all the gear. Is there another way to avoid bruising outside of pads? For example, should I do it everyday for 1 minute and eventually the bruising will go away by itself and I can hula longer and longer? Thanks!
@hoopsmiles
@hoopsmiles 3 жыл бұрын
What kind of hoop do you have? I wonder if it's the hoop itself that's causing bruising. I usually don't recommend using hoops with curvy bumps or knots that stick out or anything over 2 pounds in weight. Some cases, some people need a hoop that is under 2 pounds. Also, is your hoop padded or have a harder surface?

@sirena_senora
@sirena_senora 2 жыл бұрын
The hoop isn’t slowing down, you are. You are the power behind the motion of the hoop. It’s not spinning itself. You have to really give it some cardio movement to keep it going. That is the point after all.

I love your videos. I have started hula hooping but struggling. Your suggestions always help me out. However, I am only able to get it to spin around me 3 times. It doesn't seem to matter if I am standing still or rocking back and forth. It is always just 3 or 4 times. Any suggestions?

Awesome video, lots of helpful tips although my main problem is keeping the hoop at my belly button, I seem to keep it around my hips, I’m guessing I just need to make my motions bigger?

Is hulahooping in one direction baf for the body?
@hoopsmiles
@hoopsmiles 3 жыл бұрын
This might be up for debate. I think if you hula hoop in one direction and you are constantly moving and hula hooping on different parts of your body, I think that will be ok. But, if you just stand in one spot for a longer period, hooping in one direction, I think this can be unhealthy to a point, especially with a weighted hula hoop. When you spin the hoop, every time it spins around it creates micro impacts on your body. If you are standing in one spot, spinning in one direction, you are doing a repetitive motion, creating many micro impacts on the same part of your body. That can lead to bruising and other injuries if done for a long enough period. If you diversify your movement, instead of just standing doing the repetitive motion, as well as changing up the impact points on your body, spinning the hoop in the other direction and on other parts of your body, I think hula hooping can be healthy.

I would like to tone the abs but then have it as a hobby to dance. Does it matter to spin both way for toning. I’m worried one side will be toned and the other not. I can feel it in my right side but not left? Which way to spin to work the left side? Love this video

What I would recommend doing is just spending about the same time doing both directions. As you get better, you can use it for dancing. Thanks.

why do we need bigger sizes? what should we look out for?
@hoopsmiles
@hoopsmiles 2 жыл бұрын
The scientific reason: "Conservation of angular momentum." The bigger the hoop is the slower it spins which can make it easier. Sizing is different to everyone. Some people need bigger, some smaller

Hey hoopsmiles, I've got a question. I manage to keep the hoop from falling, BUT it pivots after a few seconds, so one end circles around my waist and another around the hips or thighs. I give it a strong starting push and I think I'm standing straight, so I can't figure out why this keeps happening. Btw, I'm using a weighted hoop, and using the first stance (although I have a bigger distance between feet). Please help :)
