I actually stumbled across this video. I know both of these young men and I must commend them for the manner they spoke during the entire video. They spoke about hope without sounding hopeless, the pitfalls of being/doing the wrong thing at the wrong place/time. Conveyed the significance of McKinley and its history, and how thriving the neighborhood used to be. I am a proud SBR resident, and there's nowhere else I don't think I would've preferred to grow up in! Great representation young brothers!😀

That having an accent and using slang does not mean they’re not intelligent. In addition, there are multiple types of intelligence. You can’t judge their intelligence by them “slaughtering the English language”. It is a mistake to do so. This is one of the best HoodVlogs videos. These dudes showing him around should honestly do vlogging or even journalism/some sort of media around their city to show it off because - even though they said how run down things are due to fires and things being closed down, they still took you around the hood and showed you the pride of it and it totally gave you the vibe for it in a completely positive way. They didn’t focus too much on the crime or violence that goes on. It was like - yeah it’s there, but there’s so much more to us, and I loved seeing that. It was dope. All while they gave some shouts out and showed love towards the neighborhood businesses and local figures still standing. Shout out to them.

theres neighbor hoods like this around every major city , their storys are the same, when the old people were young than ran businesses , with out fear of being robbed, but the last 20 years even the black owned businesses had to shut down, due to robberies or people being murderd for no reason, this is the reasons why black neighbor businesses cant survive , with 90% of mothers trying to raise kids by their selve,s , kids that are raised in the hood either have to be good in sports to make it out, or if they cant play sports they resort to dealing drugs and that activity leads to killing or being killed, so its really hard just to say DO SOMETHING, begins with the people in the hood

One thing I still can't understand is with a mindset like they have, why can't they just make a plan and leave for something "better" and "greateer". What's holding them back? One argument I can think of is nostalgia and commitment to community, which I can respect. But wouldn't they be able to help their community more if they go on and strive for greatness?

Hard to leave a place you were born and raised at and the only thing you ever knew. Think about it, you're entire family and friends are there. All your memories, good times, bad times etc. Not that easy to just wake up and say "hey lets move to this random place and never come back"
@andrewperez7844 Жыл бұрын
@@jel4275 I completely understand that view. My counter view would be what about immigrants who leave everything they know including potentially having to abandon their language to come to anywhere in America. I don't say thisto be provactive or insulting in any way. Genuinely interested to hear from you or anyone else and if you think this is a valid comparison or not. Edit: Also, it's not to say they can't go back to visit family and friends at any time. Them moving away from these situations could potentially help their current and for sure their future family. I did not come from a situation like their's, but I did make a move like the one I mention, as well as my wife who is an immigrant and came to the US solo. All love, just seeking understanding.

Baton Rouge look like you really did step into a time capsule. No cap. North and south BR hood af. Cortana closed. Everything up and down florida blvd lookin raggedy from downtown all the way to denham everything look boarded up. Ain’t no development going on in the city. It look exactly the same as it did when I left in 2012. They just built a theatre by the mall of Louisiana and a shopping center on Perkins thats really it. BR really is a dead end city full of savages. A small city with big city crime statistics

My husband and I are traveling the country via freight train! We did it for nine years and lived Outdoors the whole time it was living the dream! Anyway we were in South Baton Rouge which is definitely hardcore ghetto but we didn't care we were just looking for a place to sleep, a patch of woods until we caught a train out the next morning. Police in that area saw us walking down the block and told us that we were the "only white people in the area and we probably shouldn't be there"! We told them we were so sorry he was a racist but WE WERE NOT and we would be just fine! The people of that Community were absolutely beautiful to us! The people we met were generous in soul and even more generous of heart! We had an amazing time, we absolutely love our travels through Baton Rouge and the rest of Louisiana as well.

Much respect these two young Men spoke so well, it breaks my heart our neighborhoods have been neglected and decimated by drugs and poverty, it seems like we were in a better place in the 60’ and 70’s. I wish we could get back to those times.

Most black cities in the US is dilapidated??? Then it becomes gentrified. This isn’t due just to violence. Some was well kept areas that became drug infested. It’s happening all across the US. Something to think about.🧐
