Learning new skills on the homestead. We attempted to weld our own pole rammer and it did not end well! Enjoy the video and thank you for following our journey.

Be proud! Always! This is exactly how I learn to do everything that I do, I just try, and try again and keep learning. Well done and keep on keeping on 💪🏽

Eish, back to the drawing board, luckily you didn't end up hurting Audrey. One more thing, I felt for your knees when you were kneeling down, I suggest you get some knee guards, I think that's what they are called. Always good to learn new skills...

Thanks, will get some knee guards, had stones and sand going into them and it was at times uncomfortable 🤣

Put the amps on the welder at 90 to 110 with 2.5mm rod. Make sure you go slow so the metals from the tube, plate and welding rod melt together. I'll be on my piece of land in MP soon and be doing all you are doing now! Stay strong, stay safe and don't stop trying! Only way to learn!

Thanks Rob. This advice has helped me so much in my new project. Was definitely moving too fast. All the best with your new land and projects. Tell me all about it and share what you are learning.

good effort bud! like anything, it takes practice and experience to learn all these fabrication skills. you will get there. you were dragging the welding rod far too fast. rest the rod lightly on the metal and drag it at a slow writing speed, remembering to constantly push it down as the rod melts away. remember you are trying to melt the two pieces of steel together and the rod serves as filler to add molten metal to the puddle. it makes a big difference to grind the steel clean if you have an angle grinder. try using a hammer and punch to make a divet in the steel so the drill bit doesn't wander. Keep at it!! you can only learn more and get better!!

Yeah that’s about right for a first time stick welding. Not an easy process to learn, you won’t be a master for a long time and neither will I. Steps forward is what matters. Stay on it! It’s a very gratifying feeling when you consistently start getting it right. I will say, you’re going far too fast, common in the beginning. Don’t leave the edge of the puddle as you go or you’ll have tacks at best. It may look goofy as hell for a while, but you’ll have A weld. Best wishes friend!

Thanks so much. It is a bit disheartening that my welds are often weak. Encouragement like this gives me perspective and makes me excited to get better each day. Thanks for advising me to slow down, its good to get that feedback.

Good try bud. I'm also new to welding. I'd suggest you to clean the surface with an angle grinder before welding. That will make day and night difference in results.

Thanks so much. A grinder is definitely the next purchase. Appreciate the heads up that a much cleaner surface will make things better. Back on the drawing board. 😆

🤣😂🤣😂 "I'm gonna need a bigger welder". Was so disappointing. Fortunately I anticipated that it would likely not work but I have to improve my welds for sure.

Hey Bud - check the settings on the drill... sounded like you were trying to drill with the wrong setting there. Could be why you took so long to get through haha!!

Thanks, that definitely was an issue. I also think the drill bit was not good enough and made drilling so much more difficult. I need to invest in some tools 🙂

🤣😂 Failure is very common here. Since we are new to most of the things we just take in the disappointment, go back to the drawing board and try again. , .
