Hello Steve and Alex that was a hard day mate. People do not realise how heavy that cast is. I used to fit it lol. That stuff was the heavy grade we used to put them on the old hospitals and council property. The lighter grade was usually domestic property. The joints were probably caulked with toe and lead wool as well, stopping it from coming apart, making it even more dangerous. If that ever happens again Steve where the spout nails and bobbins have rotted away. I used to put a few straps on it to hold it back (galvanised strapping you can get it from screwfix) It takes a bit longer but you can take it down safer without the risk of it all giving way. Hope you get sorted soon Steve, its painfull just watching you...

Just watching yous struggle with the metal pipe but not sure if your aware but old metal soil pipes and downpipes arnt made of solid steel there actually cast iron you can give it a hard wack with a club or mash hammer and they will break apart, would have saved all your blades and time 👍
@SteveAndAlexBuildАй бұрын
We know its cast and if you just bash it with a hammer you don't know where or how it will break so its much safer up high on a scaff to take it down in a controlled and careful manner 🧱👍🏽
@liambrennan783Ай бұрын
@SteveAndAlexBuild I noticed later in the video yous were hitting it lol my bad spoken too early 🤣
@TrevorStreeter-s3h2 ай бұрын
I have taken down a few cast iron soil pipes easy to underestimate the weight of the sections especially where a branch with a bend close to it.The joints made with yarn & molten lead. Also a hack saw just glides off cast iron using a resip saw bit dangerous if the cast drops when cut through & traps the saw.Thanks for the plastic plumbing now used.

The best way to take out cast iron soil pipe is to cut half way though then hit it with a lump hammer it will crack on the back , go and weigh it in

My EX mate who is a beer monster dropped a huge section of a cast iron soil stack onto a neighbour’s conservatory. The home owner had only just popped into the kitchen to wash his breakfast dishes, 2 minutes earlier it would have ruined his day. P/S….He of course had no insurance and still stunk of ale, nearly got lynched 😮😮😮😮😮

When I was an apprentice I worked with a monster who used to get us carrying full lengths of 6” steel pipe on our shoulders. You couldn’t do it with the pipe supplied now as it’s heavier unless it’s what the EU normally fit because that’s absolutely crap. It’s that crap they have to import it and lasts about 10 minutes it’s that thin.

Steve and Alex... you must carry wooden 'chocking' with you... some 12x12" scaffold bds... your number will be up very soon carrying on with this very poor practice... you say look afteryour safety - this is a prime example to Do So... And no guard rail on your long sided or short ends Zip-ups... one little trip... en ensuring hospital bound with broken bones will impact on your revenue 4 sure... en no doubt a visit from local EHO...

I wish I had that girl working with me because she is very very good. I could see the video that she was doing a lot of work instead of cutting that pipe.
