Den Weltschmerz findest Du schon bei Goethe (Faust I, Vers 4406) "Der Menschheit ganzer Jammer faßt mich an" Weltschmerz is also known by Goethe when Faust approaches the gaol where Margarethe is kept and he says "The misery of all mankind touches me"

to be exact: most people (even germans) thinks weltschmerz means frustration about the world, but its not correct. it means a feeling of sadness about yourself (your life in a whole) and the whole world/existenc/beeing. it doesnt mean that you are sad about wars or political situation. the word was used in the 19. century and has no "time" (another good german word: "zeitlos". for example: if you think about the difficults of love and the wishes you have, that will never come true, or if you read goethes faust, then you feel weltschmerz.

Exactly this! It has nothing to do with the welt (world) just because it has the word in it.
