Loved the review. Nice to see a bit of common sense for a change. Totally agree with your views. Managed to get a 5 hour test ride, while my 1299 was serviced. The supersport makes much more sense on our crappy British roads. Pleased to say I've done the deal. Straight swap for my 1299 😁. Just got to wait a couple of weeks for delivery.

Great review. First time viewer having searched for reviews ahead of a supersport test ride I’ve booked with my local dealer here in the U.K. in a week. I’m currently on a monster 821 wanting to upgrade and have concerns that the supersport will be too similar in power and handling but your review has made me feel a little more excited about it. nice review. i have two sportbikes (cbr1000rr & daytona with VIR nearby!) and a sports tourer (ninja1000 with saddlebags). don't ask why i cannot decide between the 950s and panigale bayless. if the ss had the more powerful engine, i would have no quandary... thanks for your opinion. apparently that torque provides plenty of giggle time thrust!

Great review.I think the Akropovic system adds about 10hp taking to about 123hp and 20% more in the mid range...and some weight saving...and the sound OMG. But the price of the system is outrageous...I'm buying mine from the dealership with the Akropovic race system as a demo and then the pipe makes sense because you score on the price but I don't think I would add it otherwise. Negatives I've picked up. Getting it into neutral is a faff, the mirrors are crap and vibrate and there is heat on your thighs when you stop (but not too bad). But I don't care...the bike makes me smile more than any other I have ridden lately including 200hp superbikes.

Great review, with some caveats. Did you notice that the fork tubes cannot be raised much because the clip-ons get in the way? That might impact setting up the bike to turn faster. Also, as an expert-level roadracer, I'd advise getting better gloves that fully cover your wrists. RS Taichi or GP-level. How much are your hands worth?

Great video and review, definitely one of the better ones on KZbin. I was wondering if the cable ties on the number plate are to keep the magpies away? How did the heat from the engine / exhaust compare with the panigale?
@WeNeedASaga7 жыл бұрын
Zubrick01 thanks mate :) The cable ties are because the demo bikes have trade plates rather than full rego so have to be removed often. The exhaust heat is non-existent on the SuperSport - much less noticeable than the Panigale...

Have you had the chance to compare this to your MT-09 or F800 GT? I'm looking for a sports tourer that gets not bad mileage and is comfortable to ride. How would you compare this to your MT-09?
@Barabassx6 жыл бұрын
SS and MT09 are completely different bikes. SS is more stable in curves, more well build, way more good looking, better sound BUT the engine of the MT09 (CP3) is waaay better (115HP too) and the riding position is way more comfy on the MT09 but you don't have wind protection at all (or go for a Tracer 900 which is very very comfy and amazingly punchy with the cp3). The twin is damnly hot very fast too and you feel the damn hot warm coming from the engine to the legs coz it hasn't been developped to run in a fairing case seen it's an engine originally developped for the hypermotard. If you're living in a warm country, avoid the SS at all cost it's a good advice. Well, there is a matter of reliability too on exotic bikes you must know but all Ducati's (MV's, etc) owners will always say they never have troubles...subjects and polls on worldwide forums say sth else though. Yamaha is way more reliable and the maintenance on ducati can cost an arm too you must know it, especially the vavles job. Last thing, the MT09 looks plastic and cheap if you compare to a Ducati, the build quality is good but not very good (plastic and cables everywhere) like it is on Ducati which looks amazing tbh. If you're looking for a sports tourer very comfy and punchy with great pleasure to ride, i'd go on the Yamaha Tracer 900 (GT) and the 2017 or above it surprised me alot and i have tested at least 35 bikes this year. Don't judge on its trail look it isn't one at all but try it and you'll understand what i mean (nearly a sport bike engine in a trail position with a roadster behaviour, quick-shifter and good wind protection and nice features). V
@rexd19766 жыл бұрын
Problem with the Tracer 900 GT, for some, is the ridiculous 33.4" or 34.1" seat heights. At 5' 8", even on the BMW F 800 GT's 31.5" seat height, I am on the balls/toes on both feet with the bike straight up, and leaning the bike slightly left to flat foot at a stop light. I am most curious how the forward lean is on this compared to the F 800 GT though. I felt as though with the 800 GT I was going to have to install risers. I don't know how that works with clip-ons though.

Would you choose the SS the mt 09 or the z900 money not an issue ? That vtwin sounds so good . Good review as always from america

a.l rodrigues how many of your friends have ducatis so they can say its unreliable? Had supersport s for a little over a year now and i would say its on par relibility wise with bmw f700gs i had for 4 years. Had bbs module failure which was sorted out in few days, didnt leave me stranded in middle of nowhere, you could still ride the bike. Did close to 15000km in a year, had no other problems. Would buy ducati again, but next one is multistrada, either 1200s or 950s. So if you are troubled by what others say, dont buy one. If you want one, you wont regret buying it.

Great review thank you. Love this Ducati. It looks good, sounds good and those pipes make the bike! The brakes on this (and most Ducati's these days) are brilliant. The Ohlins give a firm but supple ride on the S and it's so comfortable while looking like a proper Ducati. But like a lot of other folk in the target market I can't bring myself to buy it. Why? While the Multistrada and Panigale (even the Scrambler in a twisted way) are all class leading category defining bikes the Super Sport is just meh. It's middle of the road. In order to establish the price point of £12,000 Ducati have handicapped what could have been another category winner by not giving it enough horsepower. Bike buyers are a pretty simple to understand group. We like things that look good sound great and as you put it so perfectly have some bragging rights. Yeah yeah I know that 115bhp is plenty 99% of the time. And yeah yeah it is all about torque and having that easy roll on from 3000 rpm. But look at you you hoon. First bit of straight and you wanted to give it the beans. The rest of the comfortable bike market gets the idea of having a few extra ponies. 140 to as high as 170 bhp is easy to find and don't spare the cubes (KTM V twin I'm looking at you.) We don't mind bigger engines either. And by the way isn't Ducati's own Monster 1200 pumping out near 147 bhp and 91 lb-ft these days? And you said this had the frame of a Monster... If not a liquid cooled Monster engine (it will always be girls bike anyway ask any Italian.) then Ducati could consider giving us a detuned Panigale engine from a few years back. They used to be only about the same money as a Super Sport anyway. Until the buyers feel they are getting enough cubes and bhp the Super Sport will be an opportunity missed that they never even realised they had. Thanks again for a great review.
@WeNeedASaga7 жыл бұрын
well said mate! we know what we like and a few extra horsepower would definitely step this bike up into a another category...
@AC-id6rf7 жыл бұрын
WeNeedASaga So true. On launch lots of journos in Europe were so complimentary. Everyone wants to love this bike. One journo tied himself in knots asking his readers to think of it as a really nice 600 with lots of torque! I just hope Ducati sees that the real market is just another 25bhp and couple of hundred cubes north of where they are. I'm hoping for a 12xx (euro 4 compliant) version for 2019 or 2020. It would be such a success. A proper gents Ducati that you can ride on Sundays, track once or twice a year and do the odd long weekend on. At the moment the conversation in most would be buyers heads is "really nice bike - but I can't buy something with only 115 bhp." C'mon Ducati category winners only please.

Fun is a very subjective term! ;) I think all 4 of those bikes are fun - it just depends what you like. Also keep in mind this Ducati is nearly double the price of an MT-09 too so it's a bit hard to compare them.

How is the wind buffeting on highway and how would you compare it to a multi strata for comfort? I am 6’3
@WeNeedASaga7 жыл бұрын
Peter Steele i didn't spend a lot of time at high speed so I'm not 100% sure about the wind buffeting but It seemed fine. In terms of comfort, the Multistrada will be the more comfortable bike if you're doing a lot of touring, but the Multi is also bigger, more powerful and quite a bit more expensive than the Supersport so it depends what sort of riding you like to do I guess.
