I was in kindergarten when this happened, I only had class for half a day and I didn't go in until later, so I was still at home with my mom the morning the attacks happened. I remember watching the news with her while it all happened live. I don't recall going to school that day and I remember for the next few weeks my parents mostly watched the news. It was a lot to process at that age seeing how all the adults were so scared after what happened and as a kid barely able to realize the magnitude

WHY DOES THIS SURPRISE YOU? PAGERS go off because THE GOVERNMENT NETWORK allows them to. That plane already escalated alerts because 911 calls were reporting a low flying aircraft. It started moving up the chain before anyone died yet. And yes the beepers go off after the delay in the system. A delay caused by their lower priority. The alert goes out to the people that matter first, civilians should try to stay out of the way and off the highways in a true crisis.

I remember when this all went down and I was thinking, why the fuck aren’t you standing up and getting to work ASAP? He got a lot of rightfully placed criticism for this response. Since then, I've worked at Pixar as an intern, and Deck Nine as a game animator. I was in science class in 6th grade when it happened. The mean science teacher turned on the television during class and I remember her saying, "This is sick" or "This is disgusting." She had all the students watch it during class. This is the first time I’ve seen the whole thing and his reaction is entirely normal given the circumstances. What’s the right way to act when you're in front of a class of small kids AND the media, with cameras trained on you, and someone comes up and whispers that planes are being crashed into buildings? Nobody has ever had to deal with that before or since. Nobody could have prepared him for it, yet he handled it incredibly well. It also makes you realise how much power the media has (had?) in steering public opinion. They took short clips of this to make him look bad and whip up resentment.

He was stoic, resolved and ready. If I recall this was just 8 months in his term, and hit the ground running. I thought his father was a good man too. During the Gulf War he set a deadline and a consequence. He got in got out and freed Kuwait, brought the soldiers home. Presidents from both side have impressed me, presidents from both sides didn’t. But Sr and W, we’re good men in their times of crisis. I can’t imagine the amount he was processing as he did his utmost to appear engaged with the children. Dignity and restraint.

She really is a good teacher, and she’s kind to her kids (but not a pushover - she’s awesome). The school really would’ve chosen someone else for the President of the United States if they didn’t think she was top notch. Just think - those little kids are around 30 or 31 today! Hopefully that teacher is living a comfortable and peaceful retirement after devoting her life to teaching children, especially teaching the gift of learning how to read. These days we have an illiteracy problem in the United States (much worse than it was on that fateful day). Also, these days, everyone in the United States has the opportunity to learn how to read. That wasn’t always the case during a dark time in our nation’s history. Even in the year 2024, in some countries, women are forbidden to learn how to read. Tapping may irritate you, and that’s ok, but just think about how fortunate we are compared to some others, and think about the goodness in that teacher’s heart ❤️

(Maybe she shouldn't have, but I bet a lot of teachers did) and we saw the burning buildings.. We saw the people falling. She dropped to the floor in hysterics. That's when she said her brother works there. The next day after my parents tearfully explained what happened, I realized she was crying because her brother was ... Not here anymore. FACTS he took the intial hit of what he told him nodded then the flood gates opened... at a few points you can see that 1000 yard start come over him and he has to snap out of it... it mustve been wild to enter that zoned out state where he probably wasnt seeing the class or hearing them read/chant the words, then to come back to reality and just have that going on while ALLLL the ppl behind them are in full panic mode with their body language, the secret service, the reporters, no one is calm like normal they are turning to look at others whispering that had to be a conformation that it was definatly really happening because i bet he tried a few times to tell himself it was a dream or just bad information.

Indeed. Thats the look of a President in shock and fear over such distressing news, but quickly composes himself. Whatever people might think of his policies, what happened in the immediate aftermath: W. Bush acted like a father to the nation. His formal addresses in the White House later that night and his visit/speech at Ground Zero (two?) days later. "America hears you. The world hears you. And the people who knocked these towers down will hear ALL OF US SOON!"

yeah for like 30s to 1min his brain hadnt quite come to full realazation yet... but theres that moment when teacher is interacting w the class and you can tell she probably expecting him to involve himself in some way but he's literally zoned out just staring like a vietnam vet with that 1000 yard stare and then he comes back to reality and tries to be part of the reading but thats all thats on his mind... i never fully watched this or maybe i was just too young to understand how surreal that mustve been to hear the students chanting out the words while they read thru the book all while imagining a million different things and have to remain compoed as if nothing was happening... there many critisims which i agree w when it comes to bush jr but i do have to give him props for holding it together like he did while no doubt in the midst of a serious panic attack, especially how his relationship with all the secret service ppl in that room, he had to know all their mannerisms and body language especially when things were just normal good day no bad things happening and to look around and that is not the reaction or body language hes picking up on, then to see all the that same reation in the reporters faces... thats mustve sent that intial panic attack into something wild.

God, what a place to be at to hear that news, such a juxtaposition of the other. Really makes you wonder what goes on in people’s minds. Surrounded by innocent children that are having a very special day at school with the eyes of your country on you reading and practicing your lessons. When your President is there to see you, he can’t focus on you at all. I can’t imagine trying to keep calm as he hid his emotions well.
