I've been jamming through this guy's entire available catalogue for the past few hours and I have to say now, without a doubt, I feel like he's best with nothing but a guitar and a microphone - I am for sure a fan now, either way - and he is a fantastic electric guitar player there is absolutely no doubt about it - his soloing on the electric stuff is always top tier and innovative (ex. his allman bros solo w soullive and john scofield) but at a certain point it just becomes more of an exercise in hearing variations on a single musical premise than enjoying where it's going or what it's making you feel - There's more than just blues, rock, and blues-rock in there. He's got more to explore in there creatively - I wonder what he's listening to right now - If I were to give him a pre-record mixtape of vibes I'd want him to absorb, not songs to cover, but thematic and tonal directions I think he might want to explore, it would include tUnE-yArDs - Whokill Caetano Veloso - Transa Fiona Apple - Extraordinary Machine Tom Waits - swordfishtrombones Interpol - Antics Flaming Lips - Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots If I were producing him, or just smoking weed in the back of the studio, I'd prefer to let his voice do more instrumentation - blend it into some interesting open chords - get him a looping pedal to practice layering vocals and instruments when he's writing new material - drift a bit from his wheelhouse (traditional rocky bluesy guitar-heavy choices) - maybe pick up a few unexpected covers - I'd be interested in hearing his take on Judee Sill - The Lamb Ran Away with the Crown Gram Parsons - A Song for You Nick Drake - Place To Be The Magnetic Fields - All My Little Words What it comes down to, for me, is longevity, for a musician - and his real artistic currency - what he brings to the table after the meal is eaten - is an interesting and personalized vocal take over his own interesting and innovative guitar phrasing - it is a consistently winning arrangement. Now to just take that simple premise and build upon it with diverse and elevated inspiration. Pick up some new vibes, lay down some old ones. To the vinyl! We record at dawn. Dude I was so stoned when I started typing that, I must've lost my train of thought about 32 times. Now, no longer stoned, I still somehow agree.

Bad comment warning ⚠️ COVID introduced me to you, sitting at home while everything was shutdown, watching KZbin...so I have that to be thankful for during that moment of history.

My favorite set of his I've heard. I still watch this every day! He seems so humble and thankful for the gifts he has. Be cool to hang out with a fellow introvert.

I just really like the fact that he's an UBER Talented young man that is extremely well grounded, humble, and grateful for the awesome trip his talents are taking him, his family, and friends on.

Some of us love sporty ball. Others love music. But all of us need to use our hearts to tell us which one we should focus on. The heart never lies, and it's never wrong. The mind however, can be a real asshole, and it'll lead you astray and convince you of things that just ain't so. Ignore it unless it's there to backup what your heart is telling you to do. This is great music. I'm thankful that you listened to your heart.

I’ve probably listened to this song over 200 times , not in a row . Such a good raspy voice , kinda like a Janice Joplin or a 400 pd choir singer . I think he will be one of the greats , like Hendrix or Clapton , he just has it .

If you are talking about the greats, you must mention Stevie Ray Vaughn. But I agree, this kid has it for sure.

One day Marcus will be a great artist, but for now he needs to feel the pain of life for about 30 more years then his songs will resonate with a deeper understanding of life’s joys and sorrows !!!
