"Evil wakes in vengeance. Be careful what you choose." Fun Fact: In the witch-burning picture in the church, crew members for the movie were painted as spectators watching the burning. Big Shoe Dance Award Fact: Roberto Campanella, when playing Pyramid Head, wore 15-inch platform shoes to make him close to seven feet tall. Dance Magic Dance Award Fact: Many of the creatures in the film were played by dancers so they could be flexible enough to create the required disturbing movements. The strange stumbling movements of the Dark Nurses when they first "come alive" was created by filming them walking backwards, and then running the film in reverse. Wardrobe Win Fact: Around 100 different copies of Rose's (Rodha Mitchell) outfit were made. This started out with soft summery colors, and as the movie progressed, this became grayer and eventually blood red. The change in the outfits were so subtle that this was barely noticeable. On a related note: To add to the accumulated filth caused by her character's journey through Silent Hill, Radha Mitchell did not wash her hair through the entire filming. Location Location Fact: Filming in Brantford, Ontario, Canada lasted four days. The decaying downtown strip that was used for most of the film is a section of Colbourne Street. This was picked as such because not many modifications were needed as that area of the downtown was already in a state of decay (but has since been cleaned up considerably) and consisted mostly of abandoned buildings that could be 'dressed' easily for filming. Centralia, Pennsylvania, was the inspiration for the movie adaptation of the game Silent Hill. In researching the different elements of Silent Hill, screenwriter Roger Avary came across the town of Centralia, Pennsylvania, an almost abandoned town with a 40-year-old coal fire burning underneath it. Centralia planted the seed for what developed into the cinematic version of the town of Silent Hill.

basic summary: in 1970, in silent hill, a small coal mining town, a mother (and fellow church clergy member) Dahlia Gillespie and her daughter Alessa Gillespie, were abused by the townspeople (the kids super abused Alessa, and the school janitor guy "p'd'0 R'ed" Alessa too, when she fled from the kids into the bathroom), and especially by the church members, with them ultimately burning the daughter alive (which also resulted in the entire town getting burned up, though this may really be more the work of the devil, who got accepted by Alessa wanting revenge), however Alessa would somehow still live, despite her body being totally fried/burnt-up with 3rd degree burns over her entire body, the nurse did care for Alessa too, however Alessa had nothing but hatred for everyone and everything, rightfully so, even despising the caring nurse (and the other nurses) trying to take care of her as much as possible, and thus, Alessa made a deal with the devil (as the devil is trapped in hell, only able to have power, when someone of their own free will chooses to side-with/accept the devil and/or agree to the devil's deal), allowing the devil into herself, so that Alessa can get her revenge on the entire town. Having a vessel now, the devil is able to exert some of her power, able to bring her domain of hell into the real world, and traps the 1970 small mining town of silent hill within the realm/dimension/domain of purgatory, where some of her power reaches into, for them to suffer forever. However, for the devil to take over Alessa as her vessel, what little soul/heart and goodness/purity/innocence remained of what was Alessa, gets reincarnated into another baby girl, Sharon, the adopted daughter of the main female protagonist Rose Da Silva and her husband Christopher, in present time (~ 2000s), who looks exactly like Alessa. However, this "good Alessa" (Sharon, the daughter of Rose), is connected to the "evil Alessa", two halves of the same vessel/person, and thus Sharon has visions and etc, a force trying to bring the two halves (the ~ 2000s/present-time "good Alessa"/Sharon and the 1970s/past "evil Alessa") back together, which will grant the devil (who's inhabiting "evil Alessa") its full power upon the real world, the devil tricks Rose into helping her, appearing like Sharon/Alessa, fooling Rose into thinking that she's Sharon, leading Rose to discover what happened to Alessa, so that Alessa can get her revenge (as the devil does keeps its contracts/deals), the devil needs Rose to accept her within herself, as Rose is pure and can enter the "holy" ground, and thus using this "loophole", to get the devil inside the holy ground (and when Rose is cut, the devil and her evil/darkness spills out), finally able to corrupt/taint it, where she can then use her powers to help Alessa get her revenge, and the devil, is able to stare at Sharon, the "good Alessa", trying to get possession of her, but she closes her eyes, rejecting the devil from taking over her body, and so, the devil remains trapped within hell and within the vessel of Alessa, trapped within purgatory, but... Sharon is still alive within the real world... and will grow up... and the devil is patient... (pyramid head is Alessa's/the-devil's protector)

Silent Hill is based on a real town in Pennsylvania that's been on fire underground for decades Centralia, PA
@polardeastora72685 ай бұрын
Just wanted to add that that's just for the movie. Centralia did not inspire the town in the games.

This is based off a game series and the game series is based off the real life abandoned town of Centralia, PA. Where a coal fire has been burning underground since 1962 and is projected to burn for another 250 years or so.
@nameless_rambler5 ай бұрын
The game series itself was never based on Centralia the developers have debunked this, it was only the filmmakers who took inspiration from Centralia

yeah the director got a little bit over-zealous with this movie. Christoph Ganz is clearly a genuine fan of the games and spent five years begging Konami for the rights to make a film. But his attempts to “Americanize” the story (which is kind of dumb because A: The whole point of Silent Hill is that it takes place in America even tho it is a Japanese production and B: because Christoph Ganz is also not an American) really don’t do anything to make the story easier to understand or relate to. Like all the witch-burning crap is not from the games. Ganz wanted to make some kind of criticism of the hyper-religious small town America by invoking memories of the Salem Witch trials, but it just makes the story more confusing. Was Alessa ever a witch? Do witches actually exist? What is this dark spirit, and why does it feel the need to help a tortured little girl if it is an evil spirit? The story was simpler and more effective when Dahlia was the leader of the cult instead of an outcast (there is no Christabella in the games) who had a daughter for the sole purpose of torturing her. The torture was the only way the cult of Silent Hill believed that their malevolent God could be born into a human vessel. It’s been a while since I played but essentially they succeeded in inviting this evil God into Alessa but when it becomes a part of her, she uses that power to trap all of her tormentors in purgatory. Also, the town is not abandoned in the games. There is a real world version of the town where people walk around and live their lives, but they know it isn’t safe to leave at night. By going too far with alternate realities, too many characters, additional witch-burning and Sean Bean subplots, the movie just becomes overcrowded and messy. It is too faithful to the games to be trying to do its own thing at the same time. With that said, this is the best adaptation of a video game I have ever seen. The atmosphere, music, and visuals really do feel like the game brought to life. The director just fumbled the story.

Silent Hill is a place that changes it's appearance in every game and also the monsters the protagonists go up against are something Silent Hill makes up as a way to the protagonists to fight their inner demons. I like this movie. I never played the game though. I think a lot of people are split on this movie. On the one hand you have the people who just watch movies, and as a movie, it's an enjoyable watch. But I hear it deviates from the game. the sequel is based on the 3rd game. I am not 100% sure though because I played the 3rd game but I never finished. I got stuck in the room with the bath where you open the tap and the blood starts coming out (if anyone remembers that lol) and I never continued, Anyway...watch the sequel. It's like this movie - "not bad".
