Thank you very much, Dr. Andy Galpin, for putting such great information out there. The videos are gold if you want to know how the human metabolism works. Your talent for breaking down complicated systems into informational pieces is astonishing. I really liked the fire analogy in the beginning to get an overview. I like to watch the 5-minute version to get an overview. When you watch the 25 and then 55-minute versions, you get great detail.

Hi Andy - I know you're going on Huberman Lab soon and your channel will most likely explode on youtube due to the excellent presentation and value of the information you provide. What do you think about releasing a new video as a guide to your channel? I've been sifting through and watching whatever I find interesting over the past week, which is basically all of it. I've found the way youtube presents the videos in search slightly confusing so maybe this would help the soon-to-be new viewers of your channel. Thanks for all that you've done and will do!

Very interesting. I have high triglycerides in the liver. Sounds like it may be a good idea to go very low carb and hope to burn those triglycerides as fuel correct?

Maybe, maybe not. I would just exercise consistently at a high intensity and eat better food, have sufficient protein, and slightly lower calories. That will probably do it.

It doesn't make sense to use the glycosis system as the primary energy system, as you stated, it is acute. Therefore, it should be reserved only for intense activity, such as before a exercise training session, or a difficult labor work day. The oxidative system is better optimized to be our primary energy system. Being in ketosis allows you to use the oxidative system the majority of the time, providing better health benefits with ketones You could still utilize the glycosis system optimally even on a keto diet. By consuming some dietary carbohydrates/glucose to enhance your performance prior to the planned intense activity session. The glycosis system should not be the primary, but a supplementary energy system.

Hi Andy, is there any scientific studies out on wether or not fat feeds cancer? I read recently that fats can be turned to sugar when people are on a low carb diet. There's so many different sources out there that contradict each other it gets confusing. I listened to so many podcasts you've been on now I've decided I'm just gonna trust you lol.

Your three plate example is awesome, but confusing to many because as a carbohydrate source, you included simple (fruit) and fibrous (greens), but complex/starchy such as potato or rice, which is much more calorie-dense, was nowhere to be found. In your teachings, how and where do these fit into the equation? Thanks.

All about calories. But what about insulin...which is also a storage hormone. Fruits...fructose will spike insulin levels... As per Dr. Jason Fung, calorie counting is not effective...in terms of fat loss. I have lost 40 kgs in 12 months by just having a high fat, optimum protein and very low carbohydrate diet. Still maintained after 3 years.
@YTStopCensoringFreedomOfspeech2 жыл бұрын
Pre arigcultural industry. Fruits were only eaten seasonal. The timing of fructose and glucose being available was to prepare the survival of species for the winter. The problem with modern society is we have access to all kinds of foods all year round. So people who constantly feed off starches and sugars all year round, their glycolysis system is always activated and their oxidative system isn't or is in a low activated state when they sleep and can't eat. They might even lose the ability to go into a deep state of ketosis and efficiently use their bodyfat as energy if they never try a strict keto diet. I have experimented with both systems and prefer being in ketosis. I will still use dietary starches and sugars as supplementary but never again as my preferred nutrients for fuel.

Is the 4kcal/gram ratio accurate for carbonhydrates, I've just checked my uncooked/dry long-grain white rice nutrition label and it proves the opposite: 45g (1/4 cup) is 160 calories, but 45x4 = 180 cal.
@Tinky1rs4 жыл бұрын
Yes, as not everything in rice with mass provides calories. There is always some water left in whole foods (even dried), and fiber is a carbohydrate but not digestible and therefore not included. I'm not sure if every country counts fibers as carbohydrates on the label or not.
@michaelnguyen68914 жыл бұрын
Errno So counting calories is indeed hard 😂
@Tinky1rs4 жыл бұрын
@@michaelnguyen6891 You just have to follow the kcals per 100g/serving it says on the label. If it says 160 kcal per serving that's what it is. Whole food sources rarely have only protein, fat or starch. Just like almost every part of you has some mix of those things, so does every other living thing. For convenience people say rice is a starch, but they contain more than just that.
@michaelnguyen68914 жыл бұрын
Errno thanks, that’s a good tip ^_^
