They also had a monestary on Teth that was used by Ventress and Dooku to hold Jabba's son, Rotta captive. I guess there's some irony in that. I find it interesting how the shot of the B’omarr walking almost looks like it’s animated in stop-motion. And since Lucasfilm did bring back practical miniatures for The Mandalorian, could it be that they’re bringing back these more practical effects for future series/films?
@directorforplastic79293 жыл бұрын
Even though it’d probably be more expensive and time-consuming, I’d love for stop-motion to make a comeback in terms of how they’re incorporated into big budget action stuff like how they used to be for Star Wars, the terminator, and the OG Batman.
@leftygurl3 жыл бұрын
i doubt it, but i do like they're bringing it back in style at least, especially for conveying how creepy these guys are

Lucas is finally realizing that no amount of computer graphics can replace physical objects. If only he realize that in the 90s.
@almerakbar2 жыл бұрын
Fun fact: both the prequels and the sequels had an extensive use of practical miniatures. An example would be the AOTC Geonosis arena, which was a miniature.

There are in-lore stories about how some of the B'omarr monks gone mad with the "transcendence" practice of having their brains removed and put in those bowls. Some got cold feet right before the procedure and feared losing their body, but the Order wouldn't let them retract their consent and proceeded with the operation nonetheless. Some of them even screamed internally for years before finally accepting their condition.

These also exist as LEGO minifigures, too! There's a crystal ball type piece with a trans-neon orange stud that you place inside, and then it's capped off with old robot arms and katanas for legs. The whole assembly is actually built with the studs upside-down. It's not a 1:1 perfect replication, but it gets the point across. 4480 Jabba's Palace from 2003, that was my first introduction to the B'omarr Monks as I never really noticed the one in the background in Return of the Jedi, and then one day I paid closer attention and was like, "Hey, that's the katana thing!"
@sullymanning67133 жыл бұрын
I use the word "perfect" way too much, but I really do mean it when I say that the katana piece is THE perfect piece for these guys.
@GunNutproductionsOG3 жыл бұрын
I have to wonder if these things were just a weird background thing Lucas wanted to have walking around Jaba’s palace and this whole cult of monks was something somebody later went with or Lucas was like “give me some flavour to this palace, what was it before Jaba had it?”

Star wars was one of those things where the original creator just kinda just kinda curated and agrigated all the cool ideas others came up with. Kinda like what Lovecraft did with his mythos. He only wrote like, 4 books total of the over 19 volumes various authors wrote. Honestly such writting styles are something to celebrated since it's basically the fans of a work writting the mythos. No way in hell Lucas was creative enough to come up with even half this stuff. This is the man who wrote the prequels and made interstellar war with space wizards BORING.

Not all B’ommar monks were attached to the spider droids, most actually stayed on the shelves in the bowels of the monastery (Jabba’s Palace) and were tended to by other monks (who have not obtained their enlightenment and still were in body) Fun fact: if a brain of a yet not completely enlightened monk was removed, the brain would scream for years to come. At some point, the bodied monks would then attempt to return the brain to the body, which had a low chance of succeeding…and most of those hasty monks then died without becoming one with the galaxy.
