@@tyrereviews SOME flex in a race or rally car body can be useful. I have seen RWD rally cars where the front of the cage was welded to rhe A-posts but the rear was bolted(!) to the C-posts. On dry tarmac those bolts were fixed for max grip all the time. On wet or dirt roads the bolts were removed to allow the body to flex a bit. This gave a bit smoother transition between grip and slip

I've got the Falkens on my Miata and the BFGs on the Camaro. My experience with the Falkens is limited, but I'm happy so far. With the BFGs though, in 305s square they provide amazing grip, and they seem to really like heat and more slip angle. They're fastest just a little beyond what would typically be considered the limit of grip. Unfortunately that doesn't really match my driving style, at least not with the Camaro. Being the 2.0T, it's not heavy enough to get the heat. At autox they're only getting into acceptable after 3 runs. I think they'd be a really good match for my old Focus ST. OMG - FANTASTIC REVIEW! I will say, the review/comments about the Falken 660 are exactly what I have found. I have run those on a mildly track prepped 2012 MINI Cooper S and a basically bone stock 2019 JCW, for reference for drivers of FWD cars. More 2 cents... While I have not driven the Dunlop ZIII, I have driven ZII and the review of the ZIII pretty much matches my experience with the ZIIs. I have talked with people who do endurance racing and the A052 has been identified as the fastest in comparison to the Falken 660 and the 615. So, a bit if a difference in results from different people, different cars and different tracks. That said, I have seen issues with the A052 with chunking on a MINI GP3, which I would consider an extension of the wear seen here. Just something to think about. I had heard that the RE71R ‘Stones were being discontinued, but I thought I had heard they were being replaced, not that there was going to be no replacement. Another thing to watch... Again - fantastic review and exactly what a lot of people I know will be looking for.

Sorry to be negative but as a UK or European viewer this is completely useless set of tests. I did watch the video anyway as I am a channel fan, I was also disappointed by the lack of wet weather results. Many times people have these tyres and drive to circuits etc and maybe get caught out on the rain. So the data would be helpful. Virtually all of these tyres are unavailable in the UK or Europe and as such only good to Americans. It might be good to state this at the start of the video so some people don't waste their time. Could something similar not be done to include tyres like the Nankang ns2r, ar1, yokohama ad08r, cup2, r888r, trofeo R and direzza 03g? I'm sure there are others. Hi, I've been curious about one part of your reviews. Since most of the test cars are RWD BMWs with staggered setups, is it possible to make inferences about other applications? Thanks for the lovely video and all the work that goes into this type of comparison!

I track my GTI with stock suspension quite extensively. With no camber and FWD, you chew up the front tires quickly and rollover can be a major problem. For lapping, not in competition the Dunlop’s have amazing longevity and aren’t heat sensitive, however they aren’t particularly quick. I have a 2 year old set that is still good. The Falkens are very fast but they wear quite rapidly and the sidewalls are soft and rollover a lot. My set was pretty much done after a 4-day event. I’ve also run the BFG on a Neon with -4 camber, very quick and reasonable longevity, but very temperature sensitive and sketchy in rain.

Just for reference, what would be a lap time with this car and good normal summer tires? Rough estimation. I thought lap time would improve as blocks get worn, since there is less movement. Can't you use them, in a dry weather, all the way? Thanks

Any way to get you to shove a set of General G-MAX AS-05 into a test for us 500 Treadwear users? You have a good connection with Continental, see if a rubber update is in the cards for these tires. I keep questioning my Michelin PS 3+ choice at half life now "slug feel, lack of confidence of knowing how fast to come into a street corner" with my old race car feel General G-MAX AS-05 I knew where I would be at for the most part. Even though the 3+ stick better, they suck for feel. And no to the commenters saying get a 200 to 300 tire as I can't afford new tires every year. A 500 TW tire is a 2 to 2.5 year tire for me, and that works. Us 500 TW guys need your opinion on the Generals. I sure wish General would update the rubber to something just a bit sticker and keep the feel there. Will this video entice you to PLEASE test them. kzbin.info/www/bejne/pYS6eqSno5h2ibs

I'll have a chat. Generally higher tread wear is less grip though so there's only so much that can be done for a cost
@tedtedness1843 жыл бұрын
@@tyrereviews Yes I know I am giving up grip with 500 TW, thats why I went with Michelin 3+ thinking they would be the best 500 tw tire, but just like your video on the OEM BMW 4s? Michelin handicaps "feel" from us. I mean really my General's have a TON of feel, were the 3+ suck in feel. Generals 9.5 out of 10 vs the Michelin 3+ 2 out of 10. Why do I need to "hate" my Michelin's. Sad to say. That feel can be "tuned" in as we see with the BMW OE video you posted. Please put the G-Max AS-05 in one of your tests as it is a top performer in that 500 wear category. More then most.

I’d love to see the Nankang CR-1 tested against the A052, RT660, and Rival S 1.5. One observation I have is that you said the track was an aggressive, high grip, surface. That really does play well with the Rival. But on lower grip surfaces the Rival does seem to lose some time.

TW is tested by a 3rd party against a government set control tire. The manufacturer is then given a range to set the TW. It’s more important to read the features and benefits of the tire versus just looking at the TW. Cooper offers the RS3-R (DRY) and the RS3-RS (WET) race tires based on the track conditions. Both are extreme race tires, but have different characteristics. Please reach out if I can help. Thanks, Chris (Director of Motorsports for Cooper Tire US). Great work otherwise.

Excellent info as usual… but still waiting for an EV specific tyre test (hear the loud groan from the petrol heads... I've probably picked the worth review to ask this question... ouch!). Our 2020 Kia Soul EV (204 BHP) comes shod with Nexen NFera SU1 215/55R17 tyres as standard (in the UK, at the time). Probably the worst rubber I have ever driven on in 40+ years motoring. No grip breaking or accelerating, wet or dry and also very noisy on bad surfaces (standard Yorkshire roads). Only have 7,000 lockdown miles on them, but looking for an excuse to get rid. From your previous reviews, my first choice would be Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance 2, but just a little concerned that Kia may have fitted the SU1’s as they are more rigid in the side wall to handle the 1780kg kerb weight and instant torque EV characteristics? I keep an eye on what tyres are fitted to the new EV’s coming to market, but they almost all seem to have different tyres from several different manufacturers! Help please (but if you do a comparison vid, please keep away from the Tesla’s and Tycans… and keep it relevant for your regular Joe... on a FWD EV if possible, or at best, something like a RWD VW id3)! Thanks again!

Where I live in Shytsville Straya, the Hankoooooks are by far the best cost option, was not expecting them to perform as well as they did, especially when the wear looked to be so low. Great information and testing! For trackdays I have tried AD08, RE71R, Hankook RS-3 and RS-4, and RT660. I just loved the RS-3 and RS-4 for the durability. I agree the RT660 (as well as RE71R) had immense grip but as a person going to trackdays for fun and not trying to break lap records, Hankooks will be my definite choice.
