It still must of been an amazing time 60’s early 70’s to go in and buy a car like this, any car of that time either Mopar, GM or Ford. Great informative video 👍

Nothing better than an original Superbird! The 70 RR 440 6bbl is great too of course, but the wing cars are just beyond anything else ever offered as a factory stock car and the coolest part is that it was all in the name of functionality and winning races.

Amazing the cost and lengths they went through to win a few races.

There are a zillion videos of people showing the outside of these cars. But yours is a very nice techie video showing stuff below the surface and explained very well. That's were we start to understand the thinking of the guys who designed these cars. I see you have a lot of old Mopars. When you store cars over grass, you know they rust extra fast. Sometimes someone will give you an old pool cover for free that you can put over the ground before you roll the car over it. You need a lot of old covers!
@rocketresto2 ай бұрын
All of the cars in the backyard are stored on old roof shingles, yes grass sprouts up in between but it makes a nice moisture barrier. Need to move cars and cut the weeds in that area.

Good video. Good info. I live in St. Louis. I used to drive by the Chrysler plant on hwy 44 all the time and look at the acres and acres of bad ass cars they had ready to ship out. Actually the plant was in Fenton Mo. A suburb of St. Louis. I also had a friend that worked there for a while.

Congrats on the 5K subs Tom . I'm curious since you said earlier you're not keeping the Superbird, how much more work are you going to put into further assembling it? I'd imagine whoever buys it will want to restore it, so most of the parts will have to come back off eventually anyway...
@auteurfiddler87062 ай бұрын
The Polyglas GT tires are the best looking tires ever. Though they are not particularly good for handling. They are hard and slippery. I wonder if the ones you have are reproductions, because, if they are, the must have cost a fortune. And if they are vintage, they have sure held up well for 44 year old tires. I hope you can mount them on Rally Wheels or even neo Road Runner Road Wheels. And get them tucked in behind the fender and restore the fender arch on the Road Runner. I suppose a case could be made for leaving it "kitch" since it was probably done around 1976 when Road Runners were not so valuable that guys would not kitch them up. Even 6 pack V code cars.

Quick question - Were the Superbirds geared differently than other performance cars? My recollection (which probably comes from conversations with other 20-somethings over beers, back in the day) is that Superbirds had lower numerical rear end ratio's for higher top speed. Compared to Road Runners or GTX's which were geared for acceleration?

So, why didn't all plants use the same VIN tag format? Was one plant simply older and using out-dated equipment? You'd think it would make more sense that all fender tags are identical format.
@rocketresto2 ай бұрын
That is a good question I don’t know the answer to. Think every plant had some autonomy to do things a little different and they did.

Have the rear wheel openings on the road runner been cut out? They don't look like the super bird.
