Charlemagne said it right. STOP blaming everything on mental illness. Some people just make poor choices. What she did was stupid and dangerous. I get what the lady in the studio is saying, but that girl needs to be held accountable. She may have made it hard for the black people that ARE missing.
@jas1565

If a Black woman faking her own kidnapping makes it harder for other missing Black people, how is the problem Carlee and not the police? White women have made up crimes (Sherri Papini, for example) and no one is making similar claims about white women. There are thousands of missing Black women and girls who are still missing or turned up dead who police didn't take seriously. Carlee faking her own kidnapping didn't change anything when police already didn't care.

It’s weird that we want to make excuses for our community & find a way to blame white people in every situation. This case is very simple, she lied & she should be held accountable. Why are we making it seem so bad to say that this black woman is a liar? Why can’t we just point out the wrong in this one BW? She literally googled things related to getting kidnapped hours before she pulled this stunt. This is a prime example of how we should believe facts vs believing someone because of the color of their skin & gender. This is also why it’s harder & harder to watch this show. TBC doesn’t call things how they see it anymore and give a real opinion. If it’s about BW or them talking to a Democrat,they pander, but let it be a situation about a BM or Republican they’ll trash you.

It's not the mental illness that we're accustomed, but something is psychologically wrong if one can't handle issues and need to take these extremes to either disappear or gain attention. Her age demographic have difficulty coping with reality and virtuality. Things not perfect... Some take extremes: suicide, homicide, sensationalism, or desperate measures to fill voids. Whatever the motive/trigger... there's a better way to deal without getting others involved. Something is definitely mental that one planned an elaborate scheme. But thankfully she return, came to her senses and didn't continue the charade.

My annoyance with this whole thing isn't even Carlee herself but the response from the Black community. First, it's "if this was a white woman more will be done" (whole time police see the game and doing their due diligence with the investigation). Next, it's "How dare yall doubt this Black woman's disappearance. Believe ALL BLACK WOMEN." Which is one of the dumbest mottos to live by. Then, it's "Well let's wait until there is a second interview to MAKE SURE she was not abducted." Now you want to make sure??? Now you want to do some actual investigating? But when people initially wanted to ask questions, not accuse but ask questions, yall jump down their throat and accuse them of hating Black women 🙄 Now Alicia Renee wants to know WHY it always has to start with us? Please, do some research because their have been plenty of white women who have been held accountable for lying about their disappearance. And as wrong as those white women who call the police on Black people, their PERCEPTION of the black person is wrong not their entire existence. The police show up and actually see the Black person IN QUESTION. Wrong for them to call but they indeed are reporting on an actual person. This is why police are actually questioning where is this white child Carlee claimed to have seen walking down the fu*king highway. The difference....there is no baby!!!! If a white woman calls about a black person on her street whom she believes is stealing, wrong or right, the person she called about is actually there and you can see them when police pulls up and the police start the investigation. Carlee crazy ass on the other end don't even have a baby to back up her story. Police pulled up, no baby, no sign of the abductors. So YES, you flat out LIED so you get to be made an example of. I don't see why this has to be broken down like this for people to understand. All this, "Well what about them." Is so childish. There's an OLD saying, "If YOU can't do the time, then DON'T do the crime." SIMPLE!!! Yall worried about who shot John instead of just raising your own kids right and making sure they don't do some dumb ish. Another saying ibheard growing, "If Timmy jump off a bridge, are you gonna jump too?" Stop worry about what White folks are doing and just make sure YOU are doing what's right. I think this story got everyones (police, public, media, etc.) attention due to the fact that there was already signs that a kidnapping happened. They had evidence that something happened. They were able to find her car, she was on the phone with the police reporting a child on the side on the rode, and then she was then on the phone with a friend who heard her scream. All these things all occurred and were discovered within 24-48 hours. Also with the possibility that human traffickers might be using babies and kids to kidnap people, it got everyones attention.

To answer your question about how I feel...We don't need lies about human trafficking to spread out causing fear in people. I feel that if she wanted to disappear/run away, she should have done that without claiming to be kidnapped. She's an adult. She can leave at anytime and no one can force her to return. It's sad that she made up these lies. I don't know what's going on in her life that made her do something like this but she could have left us out of it. She had almost everybody and they momma rooting for her safe return. Not sure what type of attention she was looking for but she got it. Now she's going to have to deal with the consequences.

I think not everything is about race. I honestly think class has the most relevance when it comes to what is newsworthy but also other factors like beauty, profession, what area of the country, is it a slow news day and other factors. There are so many white women who are sex workers or live in Appalachia or the middle of the country who disappear with no news reported at all. I don’t even think the submersible story was so big because there were billionaires. Everyone is fascinated with anything to do with the Titanic and the thought of being lost at the bottom of the ocean is horrifying and fascinating- especially with the timeline of the air running out and the fact that they were warned this could happen. I personally think that the migrant ship wasn’t covered was a travesty and I’m glad Obama said that as well. I know systemic racism exists!! and we need to keep progressing but it’s not helpful when everything is attributed to it. Right now in our culture money and clicks rule all - regardless of the race. Imho

Although I think this young women is a little mentally off, she still needs to be charged and required to see a psychiatrist. Papini used mental illness as a defense when she intentionally went missing for 3 weeks to be with an ex boyfriend when she's married with children. She received 18 months for false accusations and mail fraud. Depending upon Carlee's legal defense fund and laws in AL, I'm expecting less time depending if she actually stole from her job.
