This is exactly why I didn’t follow through on any Econ majoring. Day 1 or macro I said “this is a religion.” We were/are being asked to believe in this concept of X supply curve that doesn’t even work that way in reality. The conceptualization of the world and the resulting proposed solutions are super super limited because you have to be a believer in capitalism. I saw people being trained to think more and more rigidly in accordance with this belief system and ignore any other approach. I had to get out. I’m sure this can be said of any discipline but this one hurt my soul and I couldn’t do it. Hopefully we can change things one day.

Yeah those citation problems are not rare and I’m sure that a lot of renowned published folks with their work combed through like this might get caught up. Cause even when doing peer review I’m looking for the clarity and sophistication of the writing and argument and documentation of evidence and demonstrated knowledge of the field not necessarily looking back at every single source being cited to make sure they were attributed correctly. No one has time for that and peer review is unpaid. There is a lot of trust in the academic process, trust that people know how to cite even though it’s not really taught, trust that people arent just making shit up though it’s certainly possible. Which is why I teach students to take notes on their reading in a very specific way and write from their own summaries and analyses of sources instead of the sources themselves. But no one taught me that, it’s a strategy I had to develop myself. There is so much assumption in academia that of course you already know. At the end of the day we all know that this is actually not about plagiarism so I haven’t spent a lot of time investigating her work and the claims. If it wasn’t this they were going to find something else to get her out of there.

You cannot prepare for a stalker. There is no what should l have done or what should l have not done. You did what you had to do to survive the abuse. You were in flight mode. You need to move forward and prioritise your mental health and safety. Unfortunately your stalker gets rewarded (money, views, attention) by YT whenever he terrorises you. Toxic people will bully, terrorise and harass a person to get their attention (this happens in all workplaces). And if you are a person who does not reward toxic behaviour with attention brace yourself. Get the police involved but bear in mind that there is no court, police, restraint order that can stop a stalker. I suggest you try out mediation, where you have an impartial third party neutrally assist in resolving this conflict. In the room (virtual) you should have your lawyer, he should have a lawyer, YT representative (to explain the consequences of stalking & harassment), police (if you can get them to come) and a psychologist. All people present should sign NDA regarding the details of the mediation. The mediation will help you determine whether this is about clicks/views or you or about what you represent. If you directly involve yourself in taking away this man’s income he will fixate on you. It will be like having a wounded grizzly bear out in the wild with time on their hands. There are incels and racists with deep pockets who will happily encourage and fund this man to continue to harass you. You said he has a history of online stalking & harassment. Obviously there were no consequences. Stay safe.

I'm really curious about your thoughts on this: How would some of us align with feminism or any movement when big corporations have basically taken over them and made it their own with their own agenda? Because I used to call myself a feminist (not anymore) because I honestly don't agree with that type of feminism where they are pushing for a hyper-individual and hyper-consumerist agenda.
