I have a 9° g410 turned down to 8° and struggle with the high ball. It doesn't balloon, just seems to launch high and float out there. I’m the shallow swinger you depicted! I was hitting my Speed 9° vs Max LS 10.5° on GC Quad last night. Both drivers have the same head weight, APW in the center and I used the same shaft in each head. The Max LS turned out to be a more balanced driver for my +6° AOA and slightly high, slightly toe side contact. It never did the 1400 rpm dive bomb like Speed 9° did. For laughs, I put the Speed 10.5° demo head on my shaft, put in a heavier back weight to match the other drivers’ head weight and gave it a go. It was better but not as stable as Max LS 10.5°. End result wasn’t as dramatic as in the video however it was close.

How you guys only have 152k subscribers is beyond me. That last factor is ball fitting as well. I’ve really found a fantastic combination of distance and accuracy with a SIM2 9 degree head lofted up 1 degree paired with an X flex Tensei Blue shaft and AVX ball. Despite my SS only being around 100-105 mph this is a combination I would’ve never come up with (or even considered) on my own. Get a fitting!

Good stuff here. I was fit earlier this year and discovered that I am a poster child for golfer #2. Hit up on the ball, but struggle getting enough spin, and the misses were exactly what Matt hit: low spin hooky balls that fell out of the sky (TM SIM). Was fit into a PING G425 Max and got better spin numbers (2,100 average vs 1,600 average), increased my carry distance a ton, while also keeping the curve out of it.

Very thought provoking video. It could explain why at times some of us switch to a claimed 'more forgiving' driver with more club loft to help get the ball launched earlier, but the overall effect appears to be anything other than a 'forgiving' outcome due to the excess spin and as Ian puts it in the video....'all hell breaks loose'. Hence why examples like the G425Max, G430Max may work for some but simply don't work for me, and why lower spin head designs with a higher loft...do seem to work better.

Driver technologies and innovations typically don't change all that much often enough to justify paying ridiculously high dollars for new drivers. Nothing wrong with using a brand new, but older model driver from a previous generation or two, that is being sold at clearance price. The driver I use was released in 2016/2017 and I bought it on eBay for less than $200.00 USD, brand new. Turns out it's been by far the best driver I have ever hit, and when I connect well with it, I am hitting satisfyingly long bombs out there. Always do the research online, and compare that research with any drivers you might test out in a simulator to at least rule out which driver shafts and heads don't work for you. As an example, I was originally interested in the new Cobra Speed drivers with the HZRDUS shafts, but downright hated them when I actually swung and tested them in the simulator, so that ruled out both the entire line of driver heads and the shafts. Process of elimination is key, plus don't ever solely rely on what a store salesperson is suggesting to you.

This makes quite a lot of sense to me. I have an unknown but probably faster swing speed (according to those I golf with) and my ball goes very high then dies. People are constantly stumped, as am I, that my ball is driven shorter than guys with noticeably slower swing speeds. I have an old left handed 10.5 degree Taylor Made driver with an accuflex vs339 shaft. It is always a challenge to find a lower lofted left hand driver. Watched the first half and immediately went to the range with my speedzone, hit 15 balls, all pretty straight and about 190 carry off my 85mph swingspeed at 10.5 +1* setting. Switched to -1.5*. A little lower but same distance. Moved the weight to the front and hit a few really smashed ones, same distance and carry. I don't have a slice, just hit it straight with a little fade or draw at the end. Regular flex matrix radix 6. Then tried the higher loft and weight forward, got lower and I think it'll give me more roll. I'm 1*down and 2* out to in. Maybe time to just accept drives starting with a "2" are only down hill down wind.
